“Yeah, yeah, I won’t be trying to talk you out of your job, Professor.” There was no point. Aspen saw Gold as one of the few staff members who still cracked down on him. Gold would probably do this with everyone else as well.

“Thought so.” he added, “Not a supposition but rather a fact, we are going now.” and started walking. Leading the troublesome Aspen Pratt wasn’t in his plans for the evening, but it was his job and every single student had to comply with the school’s policies in order to be safe.

“Ya’ know me, Gold! I’m usually up and about all hours runnin’ about and whatnot outside, I am not a lazy person! It’s this fuckin’ curfew, this inability to go anywhere alone- it’s drivin me wacko’ no one wants to spend all day outside with me! And as far as intellect goes I’m pretty sure I’m a lost cause anyway”

He couldn’t help but to let her finish her rant. “Miss Macintosh, stop talking and just listen now. The curfew enhances your safety. All I know is that after curfew you aren’t aloud to roam around, and despite you not being lazy, the curfew is not made to please your needs but to protect you and the students in this school. And you do have intellect, every human does, atlhough some of them seem otherwise, it’s what sets us apart from animals.”

“I would, except I’m fine being by myself.  Even if that’s what I’m meant to do, it’s not fair to ethe other prefects.”

He sighed form annoyance, used to the ‘fairness speech’ made by every teenager who tried to justify themselves when all the excuses were already used, “What's fair to them, to you and to all the students is to accompany each other and never let others, or ourselves be alone. If it is what you’re meant to do, you’re meant comply with it, understand?”

“I was doing rounds with Vic. She went to the bathroom. She’ll be back in a minute.”

He took a few seconds to calculate that Vic was a nickname for Victoire, the head girl. “I see... Then, I suppose we’ll await for her, mr Lupin.”

“it’s cabin fever if it lasts long enough” Jimi argues, arching an eyebrow at what Gold assumes about how she’d act if confronted by the attacker “and that’s the best you’ve got for me, aye? Run and hide or tell one of yous? Fuckin’ aces, Gold. I’ve never felt safer.”

“Boredom is an excuse to be lazy and not productive, since it’d be impossible to actually have nothing to do as we possess a rational nature that provides us with countless possibilities to develop our intelect and physical abilities while time passes.” he added as if he knew it all, as usual. “You couldn’t and shouldn’t confront attackers, those are the only options for students to try and protect themselves, for now. And also not being alone ,as you were.”

“Yeah there is! If this archaic place had wifi I’d tell ya’ to google it. But it’s what happens when people stay inside too long, they go mental!”

“That isn’t cabin fever, that is boredom.” he corrected, thinking how many turns she gave in her mind just to say that she was bored. Teenagers sure had a wild imagination after all. “No, you won’t. You will find a spot to hide, or look for a figure of authority around the school’s headquarters.”

“I’m perfectly fine, sir. My partner had to go home, and it’s not fair for me to do no shifts, and everyone else having double.”

“You should ask a prefect to do the round with you, even if that prefect has had a round that same week. In times of need, there’s efforts to be made, and there’s always prefects willing to accompany you instead of letting you wander alone.”

“I was meeting with Professor Longbottom about an assignment. If offered to walk me back and all that but- I talked him out of it.”

“I see...” Longbottom and his soft measures again, he thought. “You won’t talk me out of it as you’d wish, Pratt. I will take you to your respective common room.”

Teddy turned around and faced the professor, “I’m on rounds, sir.” He replied as soon as he realizes who it is.

“Yes, I can tell. Yet you are alone. You should be aware of the school’s new policy, it was announced for a reason.”

Rose turned around to face her professor, “I’m on patrol, sir.” Rose said as quickly as she possibly could.

“Everyone who’s been on patrols have been doing so with another prefect. You’re alone- Hence, not allowed to patrol. Is it that hard to understand no one can be alone, especially after curfew?!”

Jimi ground to a halt and sighed “aw c’mon Gold!” she whined “I’m gonna get cabin fever!”

“There’s not even such thing as a cabin fever, miss Macintosh, for Merlin’s sake.."

"No use of silly fever excuses, you can't exit your dorm after curfew, understand?"

“Stop right there.” he said as he walked towards the person passing by him after curfew.

Marion took the small vial, looking at it for a bit before looking back at the teacher. “Thank you…” She opened the little bottle and swallowed the liquid inside it. It tasted funny, not entirely unpleasant. After a couple of moments, her head began to clear. To his question, she replied. “Hum, I was near those tables there…” She pointed to the far side of the Hall.

“No need.” he brushed it off, noticing that she seemed more oriented with his antidote. He felt proud of himself but it wasn’t the time for self-glorifications. “I see... Can you remember who you were with, or who surrounded you at the time?”

Vic hurried to Flynn’s side when she saw how things were getting messy, “guys, no matter how much you push there’s no way to get out, it won’t open so instead of it how about you try and remain calm,” she said, trying to be heard amidst all those voices.

“You heard her- remain calm, so that no one gets hurt in the confusion and we will attend to everyone soon.” he sighed from relief for having her handling the confusion with him no matter the fact she was a teenager, she was always able to fulfil her task as the Head Girl and that was enough. No time for formalities, “Victoire, have you seen any staff leaving the Hall after they announced the attack?”

“So, who was it that managed to get you to wear that?” he asked, unable to hide the smirk that played at his lips at the apt costume.

“No need, Albert.” He couldn’t help but smirk as well, still trying to keep his posture, “Let’s say that I have to engage on the school’s festivities more, and so I decided to dress myself as... Dracula.... It was Damian.” he ended up, although appreciative that his cousin convinced him to come to the Hall. Suddenly, the music stopped. The announcement was made and people started to talk loudly. He couldn’t help but to just stare at Terence.
