Her breath hitched in the back of her throat, Katherine felt her heart stop when he stepped forward. She didnât know what he was going to do or say, but his eyes told another story. His words were sharp as a knife and could easily cut anything deep. In this moment, they cut her defense like no other. Tears streamed down her face, but they felt numb to her. She saw the good in everyone and made sure to help them through any tough situation. Looking into Flynnâs soul, she knew he didnât want help - especially hers. Speechless, she nodded slowly before opening her mouth again. âI-Iâm so sorry.â Apologies seemed right in many moments and Katherine didnât know what else to do or say. âY-You really hurt me, but I donât think youâre aâŠâ She stopped, her loss for words slapping her in the face. âA⊠a monster.â
He couldnât help but take a few steps forward, words lodged in the back of his throat, unable to comfort her. Flynn felt like he didnât have the right, but he hated seeing tears. Admittingly, he was very weak to the human emotion of others, essentially a slave with sympathy. He swallowed hard, his throat dry, wincing subtly at the feeling. âI donât know how to come back from this, Kate,â he mutters lamely, avoiding her gaze.Â
âYou mean this isnât a regular occurrence? Iâm disappointed,â Olivia replied with the hint of a smirk, a corner of her mouth turning up with the motion. Her eyes flickered around the occupants of the bar, realizing he was still earning a few sidelong and questioning glances. It took a moment for them to get back into the rhythm of things, soon forgetting about his drastic entrance and going back about their business. âOlivia,â she replied, letting her delicate hand fold into his much bigger one at the greeting.Â
âUnfortunately, no,â he smiles, chuckling lightly. With her hand presented before him, Flynn pats his hand against his side, just in case, before taking hers to shake. âItâs a pleasure.â Normally, the male isnât as polite as heâs putting off. He raises his brows subtly, impressed with himself. Apparently, free alcohol makes him a kinder person. âNice rock,â he points out coolly, before bringing the beer to his lips.
When Scott returned he saw Flynn looking at the rest of his belongings. He wasnât sure if he would be able to carry much more. His shoulder was already irritating him, but he wasnât going to let the pain show. âI can do it.â He said before grabbing the box and laying two suitcases on top. Without saying another word Scott made his way back to the car.
âYouâre a gem, Scott,â he called out, as the other made his way back down. Flynn looked back at the mess behind him, heaving a grateful sigh before shutting the door, soon following him. âNow, tell me this isnât the best way to spend your day off,â he joked, loading his suitcase in his trunk.Â
âYou guys are one crazy ass bunch. But it works.â
âHow many of us have you met? Exactly?â
âWell, look at you, little courageous thing.â Her brow wiggled towards him when he told her that he could swim after all. It wasnât like it was a deep pool, and while he was short, she was certain that he would manage to touch the bottom of the pool if it came down to it. When he began to disrobe, her smile only widened. âThere you go, thatâs a good boy.â The brunette teased as she took another sip of her drink before she dived into the pool.Â
Flynn rolled his eyes, an obvious sigh following suit. âThereâs no need for the names,â he says, before walking to the edge of the pool, shortly after she had gone in. Looking down, he sighs again, stripping himself down to his boxers, not very excited about it. âIs this what you want?â he asks tiredly, his arms spread wide. âI hope youâre happy.â
Sophia had been having one of the crappiest days where it was too busy and a lot of things kept going wrong. Finally after dropping her brother off at football practice, Sophia reached cafe du monde. Walking in hastily, she took a seat across from her friend. âSorry Iâm so late. I had a lot to do and stuff kept happening to delay those things. But hey, Iâm here now. Howâs your day going?â
âItâs going fine--- but I hope you know Iâm not paying you by the hour, and this doesnât count.â Leaning back in his chair, he presents a hot and ready coffee for her to take--- unsure if she even liked coffee. He brought his own cup to his lips, taking a sip. âWe ready to decorate my new apartment, or what?â
âYou know how people always talk about food when theyâre high? Or, like, just crave it really badly? Well, that cloud up there⊠Right now it looks like this -â this big fluffy marshmallow. But it doesnât taste like marshmallows, no, it tastes like⊠Like sour candy or something. GOD, I fucking love sour candy.â
Flynn wasnât a stranger to watching another get high, nor was he a stranger to monitoring. He had been so used to being in her particular situation, he felt somewhat iffy about hearing her âhighâ talk. It had been a few months since his relapse, desperate to keep going. âHow about some water?â he offers, holding a bottle up for her to grab. âThink you can love that too?â
âMy head hurts, my legs are sore, and my heart is numb â these clinicals will be the death of me.â
â...How does a numb heart feel, exactly?â
It felt like forever since she had last been home, but Victoria was glad that she had made the decision to move back. And plus her family needed her, and they were there for her, so she was going to be there for them. Cleaning off the bar, she watched the last person leave, as she continued to close up. But she heard the bell, and thats when she glanced up from her paperwork for the night. âCan I help you?âÂ
â---Iâm looking to get a late dinner,â he replies, not taking note that the grill had been cleared out. âThat alright?â
âItâs funny how things changeâ Jesse commented after reading the last text he got from his grandmother one more time. âMy grandmother usually tells me that Iâm wasting my money buying her presents for her birthday but this time, she wants an IPad. Looks like Millenials arenât the only ones obsessed with technologyâ.Â
âSounds like my mother,â he relates, before tilting his head to get a good look at the otherâs features. âYou know, you look really familiar. I mean, I donât think weâve met but this might be one of those âyou got one of those facesâ moments.â He doesnât miss a beat, introducing himself dryly. âFlynn.â
Everyone has a chapter they donât read out loud.

Scott scanned the boxes and mentally created a plan on which ones he would carry first. When Flynn said they werenât heavy he decided to go two at a time, itâll make their time here go faster. âYou got it.â He stated before picking up two boxes and carrying them down.
âThank you,â he sang as Scott excited the room. Quickly, Flynn started jamming his clothes and other âthingsâ into three separate suitcases, and one duffle bag. He still had his apartment in Los Angeles, but there was no guarantee of his return. So, he had let his friend rent the place, taking all of his things with him--- just in case. After ten or so minutes, Flynn had finished packing, the room still an apparent mess with its empty bottles and unmade bed. By the hall laid the rest of his belongings to be taken down. Hands on hips, he heaved a sigh. âAlright.... so... Iâm not about making more than one trip so... someoneâs gonna have to carry three things,â he points out, looking at a single box left, with the three suitcases and duffle bag.
His rambunctious entrance earned a smile, though Olivia remained silent, content to observe and simply study for the time being. She shifted on the stool, letting her hand fall back down to her side, her blue eyes following this new stranger around the bar. It only took him a few moments to get his âfreeâ drink out of the bartender and to get himself situated, somehow right next to her. Registering the fact he was waiting for her response, Olivia chuckled, raising her glass to meet his. âQuite the entrance,â she stated, touching the glass to her lips and welcoming the burn of the liquor as it slid down her throat.Â
When their glasses clinked, he smiled, settling himself down comfortably. âThank you, I donât always draw attention to myself,â he points out, gesturing to the lot surrounding them. âBut I do get excited about free alcohol.â He lifts his drink, taking a mouthful, âahhâ-ing at the taste. âFlynn,â he greeted, hand out before him.
She drug her finger around the rim of her glass, trying to ignore the ring that still glistened on her right hand; the one that should be shoved somewhere in a dresser drawer, or a shoebox in the back of of her coat closet, or anywhere that wasnât in plain sight. And yet she couldnât bring herself to get to that point. Flicking her hand to motion to the bartender for another round, Olivia looked up as the bell above the door dinged, signaling a new arrival.Â
âMatt!â Flynn calls out, immediately as he enters the bar. âIâm here for my free drink, man,â he practically sings, waltzing in with his arms wide, dense to the fact he was garnering attention from the entire room. Matt nods, shaking his head, seemingly regretting the promise he made to Flynn. When the glass is placed upon the counter, Flynn walks over with excitement, noting the blonde as he passes her to take it. He clinks his glass towards his neighbor, some bearded motorist with a bandana, then over to the blonde, pausing as he raised his glass to her--- no words with that charming smile.Â
Harley watched him as he spoke, though her facial expression indicated that she was not impressed by whatever trauma may have happened to him. Seeing a floating turd was not enough to traumatize you in this heat, however, when he actually voiced the events â her mouth shut with a snap. It was enough to render her speechless as guilt slowly grew in the pit of her stomach. âWow. I wasnât actually⊠shit. Iâm sorry.â Her brow furrowed, then a playful grin appeared on her lips. âI could always hold onto you.â She winked as she lowered her bottoms. âMaybe you can just dip your feet in?â
Flynn couldnât help but eye her with squinted eyes, now regretting the lack of sunglasses--- or not. He remains calm, crossing his arms with a weak laugh. âI can swim,â he explains, chuckling. âI learned how after.â It was just like Jakob to push him in, then for Nathan to save the day--- a time he canât forget. Stepping back, he takes a good look at the pool and Harley, heaving a deep breath of courage before disrobing. â---What the hell,â he shakes his head, pulling his shirt off first.
