Ilya needs a daughter, but Shane needs a son
Every time I think about what Montreal does to Shane I get immensely pissed off
You have THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE who has brought you the cup not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES and you decide, hm, he can’t be all that. He HAS to be cheating or losing on purpose or something because why else would he be with Ilya Rozanov. Like clearly this guy who rebuilt our franchise and made us the top team in the league and is an incredible captain and, again, IS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE should be gone. We actually don’t need him. Or want him.
And yes, most of it is because it’s Ilya, but even before that they were so standoffish and icy towards him when he came out. Like what difference does it make if he’s still the best and you guys are still winning. Nothing changed except the added knowledge you have. And now Shane is being ripped from the place he called home, the people he called family, cause you can’t handle that he likes dick?????
Like yes now he gets to play on the same team as Ilya and they get to live together but I genuinely don’t think Shane will ever be able to truly move on from that betrayal. Like how can he truly be happy in the place that he is knowing the only reason he is there is because the place where he thought his number would hang from the rafters would rather see it burn to ash?
I think the plane incident would be a good place to have Role Model
Like we have either a full episode of Troy/Harris or a half n’ half where we get both Troy/Harris and hollanov but as the plane scene gets closer, we get more into just Troy/Harris’s pov
This way we can see the outside perspective of seeing Ilya frantically typing on his phone not know who he’s texting (even though the audience knows) and showing the aftermath through Troy’s eyes then the episode could end by (or the next episode could start by) a hard cut to Shane reading those texts and us getting to see what Ilya typed out picking the story back up with Shane finding out
Like I really think we need to see those texts from Shane’s pov of him reading them rather than Ilya writing them
Sometimes you read a fic and they say one or two words and your like “ya this person is British”
I just read THE MOST ENGLISH FIC IN MY LIFE, like more than any fic ive read about actual British context it was insane
I’m just so proud of my close personal friend Hudson Williams
I feel so many complicated things for Stanley Forbes
“Will you disappoint them?”
Shane Hollander will disappoint them. He will disappoint the people he considered his friends, his family, his team, his city, most of the league of the sport that he loves, that he’s given everything to, not because he fell in love with a man, but because of the man that he fell in love with. He will lose their support, their trust, and their love all because he fell in love with a man that he met before he even knew any of them.
I really love the concept that the first season of Heated Rivalry is Shane and Ilya reliving their memories that they deem important to their relationship
It’s especially interesting when we think about episode five where they finally admit their feelings to each other, they completely gloss over their reunion sex and we don’t see it, we just see the before and the after
Their whole relationship revolves around sex yet the most important thing was them comforting each other in a non sexual way and then using each others first names when saying goodbye
That whole episode we don’t see anything sexual or explicit and I find that beautiful
No one is more dedicated to the game than Shane Hollander was on Halloween
I would love to be Eric Bennett’s questionably young partner
They should make an actual one hour documentary special about Shane and Ilya and release it
I’d watch that shit (how could they not see???)
Living in my brain means spending hours thinking about the concept of one of those “the characters watch the show” fics (I need more of these btw pleaseeeeee) except instead of the actual show it’s like a YouTube crackvideo or something so they get absolutely no context and just completely random out of order snippets from the past decade of Shane and Ilyas lives.
And that’s how they find out about Hollanov.
(It is a curse to see so clearly)
“Hi this is Ilya, I will never listen to your voicemail” playing while Shane is trying to call him during *the plane incident* is probably the best/worst thing I am so looking forward to
I haven’t talked about him in a while so …
CONNOR STORRIE APPRECIATION POST
I’m reading Tough Guy for the first time (I know, finally) and I just read a sentence that shook me to my core
Wyatt Hayes has blonde hair. HUH?!?!?
Idk if this was ever stated in any of the other books (if it was I completely ignored it, clearly) but reading it now has thrown me off kilter. It has changed my world view. It has me questioning everything i thought i knew. I have NEVER imagined him with blonde hair and now I don’t know what to think. Like even in the fics I have read, it has never been mentioned how did I go this long thinking his hair was brown???
My whole life is a lie
Part of the plot of heated rivalry is both shane and ilya realizing they can have something that they never thought they would be able to have, a loving romantic relationship with someone who truly understands them. But a big part of shane's arc through tlg and potentially unrivaled if RR decides to create any thematic throughline is that Shane will NEVER get something that he deeply wants, and thought he would be able to have: to be seen first, foremost, and solely as a hockey player. His race is not touched on much in the books, but in the show, it's clear he resents that early on, it's the first thing people want to discuss with him. He doesn't want to be "the first asian hockey player to do xxxx" he wants to be "the first hockey player to do xxxx". Even on his draft day he's made to feel like token diversity. And he eventually does become so exceptional that his race is probably not the first thing that's brought up about him anymore. But once he's outed? Yeah that's not going away. I bet it doesn't actually feel that good to him to see the crowd full of rainbow flags when he returns to play. I bet he's wondering if they're here to see him play hockey or if he's just a gay icon now. He can win as many stanley cups as he wants but he's going to be extremely famous outside of hockey crowds forever for simply being gay.
I was watching celebrity jeapordy with my family and one of the answers was Peloton and all I could think about was the Hudson Williams ad and was wondering why that wasn’t the clue
