hello hello, i bring you the slightly revamped version of jaeyeol jeon, the main dancer, lead rapper, vocal of catalyst! not too much of them has changed honestly, the biggest thing is their faceclaim has changed, got aged down a year, and also yeol is now using they/them/he/him pronouns because they’re having a bit of a gender crisis because why would fate let them live their life in peace with their partner after mostly working through their sexuality crisis? position wise yeol was a main vocal but now they’re living their dance legend dreams. other than that they’re still the same dramatic and cuddly person they were before (though maybe a hint mellowed). below i’ve just went over some of their basics and fun facts, included some plot points since i’m slacking in getting their plots page and task done, and also their ecps because i know i’ve been nosy about what people claimed and this makes it a bit easier. if you want to plot please feel free to like this or just hit me up on d*sc*rd (feel free to ask for it) and i’ll get back to you soon!

jaeyeol was born on july 3, 1998 in hillcrest, australia to questionable parents

has far too many siblings to keep track of, don’t ask them to name them all, they barely remember

started dancing in high school and fell in love with it and has been dancing ever since

they didn’t start rapping until they entered gold star though that was a newly discovered talent in the like two years they trained. 

i briefly mentioned their sexuality crisis because they grew up in a house hold where being lgbtq+ wasn’t okay and it took a long time for them to settle into being okay with liking men/male-presenting people, even now they’re not 100% fully alright and comfortable with admitting out loud that they’re queer but they’re working on it

the gender crisis is recent and once again jaeyeol is super confused on what gender really means to them and how they feel about the binaries vs non-binary, so they’re trying they swear

dowoon. 

dowoon considered himself very deserving of his positions in catalyst – there was a slight chip on his shoulder, not that he’d ever admit it. after all, to debut as a main dancer and lead vocal (and their leader) wasn’t an easy feat for someone who only even auditioned impulsively, without a lick of stage experience to his name. though he was glad that he did. even if gold star, and the industry in general, sucked a lot of the time, he’d still managed to find his calling: dance, performance … and shouting his head off in the practice rooms at his unruly members. granted, he probably went overboard. they were four outta five when it came to their dance line after all. 

still, he hated messy choreo. get it down perfectly, and then you can have some fun with it. to be accused of wrong timing? no fucking way.

“wrong? where?” he whipped his head around to face jaeyeol, breaking final position with a frown. “dude, i literally made this dance. if anyone’s timing is wrong, then it’s yours.” he crossed his arms, feet planted squarely beneath his shoulders. sure, he hadn’t choreographed all of the dance, but whatever. his point still stood. “c’mon, lemme see you. i’ll watch this time.”

when catalyst had first debuted, jaeyeol had long struggled with their position in the group. the idea of being the main anything was a bit nerve racking to start with, not to mention the main dancer when for so many years they’d had to hide their love for the craft from their parents and family. now they were encouraged to show it off, show everyone their talents and abilities, especially when it wasn’t odd for them to end up front and center for long periods of some of their releases. they had to grow into it all, the confidence they showcased wasn’t always there naturally. 

both jaeyeol and dowoon were clearly invested in the choreography of their songs after having participated in many of their makings over the years. they knew parts of them perfectly before the others were shown them and had opinions of how they should look. 

jaeyeol hadn’t choreographed this song at all, it wasn’t their personal style. yet here they were telling dowoon that he did something incorrectly like the menace they were.

“i beg to differ, my timing is impeccable at all times,” they sassed the fellow main dancer back. “the beginning formation movements is a starting point.” honestly this was just them being a brat with their close friend. “fine, i’ll show you how to do this correctly.”

what: main dancer thangs (practicing for year end shows) when: november 2021 with: @fmddowoon

the sight was common. jaeyeol and dowoon tucked away in one of gold star’s practice rooms, dancing their way through whatever set of songs they had laid out for the night. this time their list of songs was for the semi-upcoming year end shows, the familiar music for “all in” blaring through the speaker. as a group and on their own they’d run through the choreography at least a hundred times, but still here were catalyst’s two main dancers going through it all once again.

after the music came to a stop once more, jaeyeol turned their body so they were fully facing dowoon before speaking, “you’re doing it wrong.” they were more so being a brat than anything, knit-picking small things and maybe being annoying. this was also common. “like half of your timing is off!”

this is very long overdue, but hello i present to you all a plot call! i’ve been struggling a bit personally and putting this off as a result, but jaeyeol, kyubok, and maverick are in desperate need of new threads and connections in their lives! they can be schedule related, base things, or just whatever we decided to plot. either way, i plan on writing most of the starters i believe. so if you’d like to plot, feel free to like this and i’ll come visit you!

duri.

duri had managed to get lucky, himself. he started writing a year after titan had debuted, as well as started his variety and modeling trench there after. sure, it actually wasn’t really a lot that he had done with those two, having had more writing under his belt before he really got pushed into a solo career years later. he knew he was lucky, but he was also really appreciative. 

he giggled happy, “thank you! it really means a lot hearing that from you,” he said, his smile beaming some more. he nodded his head, “okay! take your time!” he said as the other was off. as he waited, he went through the rakes, picking out more things based off of what jaeyeol said, as well as things that would go together. 

over the years since catalyst debuted, jaeyeol had contemplated what their goals were with their solo endeavors and honestly they still weren’t 100% sure on what they wanted. the one thing they knew they wanted to continue with was getting to choreograph for the group, maybe gold star would even let them choreograph an entire song one day and not just participate in it. it’d also be nice to choreograph for another group or a soloist. in terms of the modeling career that had just started, yeol still wasn’t entirely sure of how they felt on the matter and if that was something they really wanted to continue.

jaeyeol scurried off to quickly change out of the comfortable clothing they had shown up in to the outfit that duri had put together. when they looked in the mirror at themself they couldn’t deny that they looked hot in the red heels. maybe the slight addition to height (which admittedly, they didn’t need, but was fun) even added a slight confidence as they stepped out into view. “how do i look?”

duri.

duri considered himself lucky for everything that he’s been able to do outside of titan. there was a lot that bc entertainment had really pushed him towards doing, and it was things that duri ended up really liking - so, it hasn’t been like he was forced to do it, ultimately. though, it would probably be a lot cooler to be as creative as he was getting to be with the base magazine stuff. perhaps, in the future, he’d get to do more of this type of stuff. that’s something that would ultimately be pretty cool. 

he nodded his head, giggling happily. duri wasn’t entirely sure if he’s ever watched movies with a motorcycle aspect, or even a drama, now that he thought about it. but, he was sure they were out there, and donned in leather. he giggled softly, “i’m glad you like it! i was hoping you would like it, i wasn’t entirely sure. but, my thought process brought me here,” he said, giggling softly. “go ahead! put it on and we’ll see how it looks!”

honestly, jaeyeol sometimes just tried to remind themself that their career could have been a lot worse. they got to start doing choreography for their group’s singles very early on in their career, while there were seniors who waited years to get to do anything on their own. they could be in that position, but they weren’t, so that was nice at least. not that yeol still didn’t get mad about the way gold start handled some things of course.

“you did a really good job, hyung, it’d be hard for me not to like all this,” this wouldn’t be for everyone, but jaeyeol thought it was pretty damn cool, and they couldn't wait to see how the pictures all turned out. “i’m off, i’m off, once moment!”

IN WHICH… Chiaki is introduced to some new thangs. WITH… @fmdjaeyeol​

“So!” With an expectant smile on her face Chiaki spun around to greet her friend. She’d only just arrived and deposited her duffle bag in a corner of the studio they had for the next two hours, well out of the way of any dancing, and despite the practice she’d been putting in for her solo comeback just before she felt like she was still brimming with energy and enthusiasm.

Good thing these dancing sessions with Jaeyeol were perfect to scratch that itch. “What do I have to trade for you to teach me the chorus choreo of your last comeback?” Grinning, Chiaki pulled her faded orange hair up into a ponytail. “I can offer a bit of top secret dancing that you can’t show anyone until November seventeenth…”

Chiaki was pretty sure she wasn’t actually allowed to do that, but what was she supposed to do, not share her excitement with a friend? Plus, Jaeyeol was a company mate, worst case the two of them could always claim they accidentally walked in on her practising and remembered a suspicious amount of Roller Coaster by heart after a first look or something like that.

jaeyeol had been sprawled out on the dance room’s hardwood floors, scrolling on their instagram feed while waiting for their friend to arrive after arriving slightly early to their meeting spot. sure, they danced all day long most days, but it was fun bits of time like this that helped revive them and remind them why they loved to dance.

stuffing their phone in the pocket of their sweatshirt and standing up from the ground, yeol chuckled hearing the proposition being laid out in front of them. “hmm,” they teased, humming as they pretended to think about what they would want in return. “make it a bit of that top secret dancing i must show no one until November 17th and a homecooked dinner one night, and you’ve got yourself a deal,” they negotiated. honestly if chiaki would have come in and asked to learn the choreography without offering anything, they would have happily taught her, but they wouldn’t turn down things like this. “i’ll even throw it the whole song and not just the chorus if you want it.”

honestly, jaeyeol was the last person who held back choreography from their friends just because it wasn’t released. they made some of their dances and sometimes liked to get outsider opinions on the things they were coming up with. dancer friends were great critics.

duri.

duri’s early career had involved variety, modeling, and songwriting, before he was finally able to use his voice in solo projects. but, perhaps, the modeling early on had really helped him to really understand what it takes to styling someone, and what he needed to do. so, he couldn’t say he was worried at all about taking it on, just worried about the end project actually working. nonetheless, he was really happy to be working with jaeyeol, as they had a lot of fun when they were paired up in secret sibling. this experience was probably something that was going to be just as great, that was for sure. 

“yes, leather and motorcycles are a thing! at least, that’s what i assume for titan doing tempo…” he said, a soft giggle leaving his lips once again. duri had made his way over to where he had the leather outfits, a happy giggle leaving his lips. “okay!” he says, pulling something out. “we’re going to go with the long leather jacket with the faux fur, leather pants, and no shirt, as we’ll leave the jacket open,” he said. he picks up a pair of knee high leather boot heels, holding them up, “we’ll also go with these, cause i think it’ll make the outfit look really cool! but, they’re red to break up the black leather!”

most of jaeyeol’s career outside of being a member of catalyst had been more behind the scenes work for the group, participating in creating the choreography for some of their title tracks, before in the last  year the company had decided that their looks were something they could take advantage of as well before shipping them off to be on magazines. not that they were complaining, truly, they were quite pretty. now they were getting to be a part of this with duri, and they were just happy to have someone who clearly put some thought into the whole shoot.

“i’m pretty sure i saw it in old movies and stuff too,” they nodded, trying momentarily to recall any movies they happened to see their parents or step-parents watch before they up and level australia. god they were going to look so hot in what duri had planned for them. “you didn’t come to play, hyung! these are hot!”

jihae.

Despite their relationship with Jaeyeol still being fairly new—a little over three months, actually—they’d been friends for a long time before. Occurrences like tonight’s were no news to them and even before Jihae had come to the conclusion that they were, in fact, in love with their partner they wouldn’t have minded looking after a tipsy Jaeyeol, this surely wasn’t a first. 

“You’ve got yourself a deal,” Jihae hummed against their mouth before pulling away and starting to search their room for a spare towel and clothes for Jaeyeol to borrow. Their three centimetre height difference was barely perceptible on good days and Jihae was built rather broadly, a fact they weren’t always so appreciative of, which meant that sharing clothes was a pretty seamless procedure. 

“I’ll actually even let you choose which hoodie you want,” they told Jaeyeol over their shoulder. “Also, if I were you I’d start praying now that we don’t accidentally wake Kyubok up. It’s pretty late for a shower.” Would they still indulge their partner and let themselves be dragged into washing their hair? Absolutely. But that didn’t mean they all that keen on making an enemy out of their best friend and flatmate.

“I don’t think I even asked but did you have a good time?” Jihae asks and steps aside for Jaeyeol to have a better look at the hoodie options available.

the concept of stumbling into the apartment in various states of intoxicated was far from something that jaeyeol’s closest friends weren’t accustomed to. they had always been one who enjoyed getting wine drunk at home when time allowed or going out with others and drinking whatever sounded good at the time. jihae hadn’t been immune to their visits prior to now and they noted the other wouldn’t end up with them coming into the apartment for the cuddles they desired.

jaeyeol let out a quiet, pleased hum as the other agreed to the proposition, though that hum turned into a light whine as they no longer weren’t wrapped up in jihae’s arms, opting to watch their partner watch around with another pout on their lips. if they were drunker they’d probably be following around like a lost puppy right now, but they stayed where they were left.

the offer to pick out their own hoodie though piqued their interest though, enough to take away the pout as they made their way over to observe all the options they had to choose from. “kyubok is probably up and cuddling his hedgehog or something...” they probably should have made an effort to look at the other’s door to see if there was any light or something coming form under it, but they were on a mission once arriving to their destination. 

after taking in all the clothing in front of them jaeyeol opted for a familiar white hoodie, one they had known jihae had for a long time and would be worn and comfy to sleep in, before turning to look at jihae, nodding, already feeling sleepiness setting in. “i did, noona and i danced all night, it was nice.”

sunghee.

“no, i don’t think i have the legs for it.” sunghee smiled. they were getting better at making jokes this easily, or at the very least they thought they were. though to be fair, sunghee did actually hear one of the stylists commenting that it would potentially look weird if they tried to put sunghee in one of those incredibly short shorts. for one, it wasn’t like they had long and thick legs — they were quite short, even, hence the relatively longer shorts they were wearing, and more than once sunghee was called out for not working out their legs as much as their arms. well. one thing at a time. “maybe they’ll put them in andy hyung? who knows.”

as much as they were trying to take it easy, to not think too seriously about what they were doing, sunghee still felt — a little odd. a little out of themselves. they were used to being in front of a camera, of course, but it never went away, the awkward feeling in their stomach. “did you like the concept?” they asked, sniffling. their nose was itching, but sunghee was too scared of messing up the makeup to do anything about it. “i don’t think i understand it very well.” 

the other was a good bit shorter than jaeyeol was, it was true, and short shorts just seemed like a thing the stylist would pull out and throw on jaeyeol in comparison to the other members of catalyst based off previous outfits they’d had thrown at them over the years. “i don’t think i do either but apparently the stylists all disagree wtith that notion.” the idea of andy in the short shorts was an amusing thought, one that made jaeyeol snicker in amusement. the older wasn’t that big either but the imagery was great. they joked, “i think andy hyung has the legs for it. oversized short shorts would look great.”

in recent time jaeyeol had gotten more comfortable in front of a camera and with photo shoots, after having started to be in or on magazines on their own and not just with the rest of their group. this all felt rather simple. jaeyeol shrugged, nodding a bit after looking down to observe their own outfit. “it’s arguably not the worst thing we’ve ever been put it,” they commented, thinking back through their vast amount of stage outfits and music video outfits, “i don’t really understand it either...”

duri.

duri had been really excited that he managed to get paired up with jaeyeol for the shoot. they got along well during secret sibling and got rather close from the experience. maybe the companies wanted to see it again and that’s how the two had managed to become partners again for this. nonetheless, it was really nice to work with them again and duri was rather excited to show off what he came up with.

however, while excited, he was a bit nervous. he hoped that everything went well together for the concept he had managed to come up with in a way. duri did really, really well with his own solo pictorial and being able to put that together, but he was nervous that maybe he wouldn’t do the best on this one. but, he was sure that it would work, especially with the array of clothes that were going on. it was almost like a bit of a wild spy concept, except with heels, latex, and even vegan leather that looked exactly like real leather. he really just hyped himself up that it was good. 

he giggled happily as the other hugged him back and give him a squeeze. once they’re out of the hug, duri looked at them, before looking around the room. he giggled happily, “ah, thank you! i’ve been a little nervous that i didn’t make things coherent? but, it feels almost like a sexy spy concept? or just simply high fashion in a way!” he said, giggling softly. “okay, good!” he said. he went over to take out a few things, “for the motorcycle portion, i have a few leather or latex outfits. which would you prefer?” duri asked, as he’s pulling out a few of the outfits. he’d pick the shoes they’d wear once the other pieces were picked out. 

what little variety they’d done since debuting and the modeling they’d dove into had all been things that jaeyeol enjoyed. duri was a big reason why secret sibling had been so fun and why jaeyeol had enjoyed the series so much. clearly many other people liked the two of them together on projects since they were being allowed to work together once more for the magazine. there was no doubt in their mind that working with the older would once again be a lot of fun and another experience that jaeyeol would enjoy greatly. what they knew about the concept had made them excited and now seeing everything in person only made them more pumped to be styled by duri for this. 

honestly jaeyeol was use to just wearing what stylist put them in, though they did get some say in stuff, but it was nice that the other was giving them more freedom within the concept. “hmmm...” they hummed while observing the items duri had pulled out for them. “ leather please,” jaeyeol ended up requesting. “leather and motorcycles are a thing right?” really they had a not a clue.

what: base group photoshoot when: october with: @fmdjaeyeol​

In Catalyst, every single member has a role to fulfil. Gold Star likes the idea of all of them being all-rounders, sells it to the public in the hopes that they are going to buy it, but each member is still the best at one thing at least, to excuse the positions that were distributed among them. Sunghee’s been made aware a long time ago that, above all else, they are the group’s main rapper. Yes, they are a good dancer and an okay singer, but rapping is that they do, and they are great at it. They are also the maknae, and that works for them as well. One thing that they absolutely are not is a visual, or the face of the group. They get compliments from fans online, but Sunghee knows what they look like. And that’s not the type of face that most people want to look at in a photoshoot.

As much as they have the experience of doing photoshoots with the rest of the group, Sunghee’s only other ventures had to do with their brand endorsements and a single magazine cover they did, nothing that was too complex. It was never expected of them to push into improving their modelling skills because they don’t look like a model, especially in the group they are in, so everything about this photoshoot is a bit like torture to them. Especially the quirky styling, the way their hair has been slicked back and they are wearing clothes Sunghee isn’t entirely sure were made for their size. Fashion. Something they simply do not understand.

“Hyung,” Sunghee nudges Jaeyeol’s side. “Did they try to put you in those short shorts?”

it hadn’t been held back from jaeyeol that people thought they were attractive and nice to look at. they found themself in the center quite frequently, most usually they just chalked it up to being the main dancer of the group, because while they were also a clearly talented rapper, dancing was their thing in the group. this was far from the first photoshoot they’d ever done with the other members of catalyst, and of course they’d gone off and got some experience in solo shoots in more recent times, but this was probably some of the weirdest styling they’d had, even by catalyst standards of outfits.

gold star had started pushing jaeyeol for their looks more recently, putting them on magazines by themselves, giving them their own youtube channel to put their face out there more, it was new but they liked it, knew they were nice to look at, and liked the compliments. the crop tops were something they were still getting use to though, despite having worn things of the sort a few times now since debuting. at the mention of the short shorts from sunghee they couldn’t help but snicker quietly, “yeah,” they confirmed with a nod, “they tried but then they put me in the this instead...did they try to put you in those?”

heels had been lined up among the floor - duri had disregarded any ideas of flat shoes when he got paired up with jaeyeol to style the other. he wanted to go with something that was a bit out of the box for a male presenting idea, wanting to go to a bit of an extreme - something that was high fashion of sorts. plus, jaeyeol would make the heels work with their rather long legs and that’s what duri had in mind when he had picked the heels out to go along with the concept. to say the least, duri was rather excited about the shoe idea that he managed to pick out when he thought up of a concept, and based the whole idea around the simple thing. duri had also been excited because one of the set items would have jaeyeol draped over a motorcycle in heels, as well. city scenery would also do a lot of work for the shoot, as well as having jaeyeol on the hood of a vintage car. duri was just very much excited.

he had picked out numerous different outfits that he thought would suit jaeyeol - even a few latex, but that was a bit ambitious and he wasn’t sure if those would end up making the cut. but, simply, he had a lot upon the racks that he thought would go well with the shoot. he went through them once again, fingers combing through to make sure he placed everything with what they matched with, and everything of that such. he kept a lot of the advice on fashion that yena had given him, and truth be told - he thinks that’s what has really set him over the top for the styling of this one. 

just as he had finished making sure everything was prepared, duri hears footsteps, and jaeyeol approaching. he giggles happily before moving to them, giving one of his bear hugs. “jaeyeol!” he says, a bit excitingly, before stepping back. “i’m really glad we got paired up together, i’m really excited about this!” he said, before moving to the side. “ta-da! i have a bunch of stuff picked out for the concept and i have to apologize now, i hope you can work in heels. if i have to carry you around the set, i’ll be sure to do it!”

out of all the people they could have been paired up with for this shoot, jaeyeol was happy they got to work with duri once again. after meeting the older on secret sibling and getting closer to him, duri had quickly become one of jaeyeol’s favorite seniors and always enjoyed working with the other when the chance arose. they’d only been getting into modeling somewhat recently, but it was something they also strongly enjoyed. their pretty face was another way to keep them booked and busy and it was great.

upon walking onto the set, jaeyeol looked over all the items, intrigued with everything they were seeing all on their way to walking over to duri. the motorcycle, the car, the scenary, all of it combined was something that would undoubtedly make a shoot. all jaeyeol wanted was to look hot and it seemed that the older wasn’t going to fail on the delivery of that on desire. that feeling was only cemented more as they got a short glimpse at the clothing set up on a rack.

“hyung!” yeol greeted enthusiastically, allowing themself to be wrapped up in the big hug from the other, not hesitating to give him a good squeeze in return. once out of the hug and getting another, closer look at everything that was set out for him, jaeyeol was more excited. “this all looks amazing,” they commented, moving closer to look through a few of the things. jaeyeol laughed at the idea of duri carrying them around the set in their heels, “i think i can manage but i won’t hesitate to take you up on the other.”

yena laughed taking a sip of her drink. “you’d be offended when? if someone would assume you wouldn’t always say yes to more drinks or that you’re not my favorite?” yena joked, nudging them lightly with her elbow. of course. she knew the answer but it was fun to tease them for a bit and feed her own ego while she was at it. “because i think it should be the latter, do you have any clue how high of an honor it is to be one of my favorites? you better treasure that shit.” she hummed over the rim of her glass, a hint of a grin on her features. 

she scoffed in amusement as they bounced her words right back at her. “do i ever not?” her drinking habits spoke for themselves, if anyone was expecting her to make sound, thoughtful decisions they truly were looking at their wrong girl. “good for you baby.” she patted their cheek fondly. “wouldn’t want to subject your group to dealing with a grumpy little hungover baby.” a hypocritical stance, calypso had done so plenty over the years. “construction noise, ha, i like that one.” yena snorted quietly. “a new album huh? the construction noise must be working out for you then.” she shrugged. “calypso isn’t doing anything special, silence after the storm after our comeback. just some military performances here and there and we all know how much i love shaking my ass for random men.” the sarcasm heavily lacing her words. 

jaeyeol paused for only a moment before replying, “all of the above,” before letting out a laugh of their own. “i will only take being second favorite to hanbyul hyung,” they tackled on jokingly. how they weren’t be one of the elder’s favorites, jaeyeol would never knew. they were an absolute joy to be friends with. they took another sip of their drink before providing a response, “are you kidding me? it’s on my top five list of most cherished things!” they yelled over the music. 

“i’ve never know you not to!” they had a way with picking those they decided to go drinking with, clearly. “they’d live, i’m sure.” it wouldn’t have been the first time they had turned up to catalyst schedules with a hanging headache, dark sunglasses, and a large ice coffee. occasionally spiked with my alcohol depending on how much fun they wanted to have for that period of time. the first time someone on the internet had described catalyst’s music as construction nose, they remembered bursting out laughing. “apparently, people think we’re ~unique~ or something,” they mentioned. somehow it worked for them though. jaeyeol snorted, “last i knew that was your favorite pass time, no?”
