It wasn’t often that Jieun ate what she wanted. Her body was important to her, both for health and vanity, and her favored foods weren’t exactly waistline friendly. Besides the fact, managers often made it difficult or impossible to hide the evidence of such indulgence. Tonight, though, she was driven by stress and exhaustion - busking had been relatively fun, but it was still work and 7rophy’s comeback was coming up fast. Knowing that she wouldn’t get much chance to do as she liked during the promotions set to start the next day, tonight would have to be her fun.

It was 2 am, far past her curfew, but she didn’t particularly mind. Once she got into the convenience store, she began to choose foods she’d normally avoid - cups of noodles, tteokbokki with cheese, different kinds of buns, and hot bar were all purchased, prepared, and brought to a table so she could sit and eat. At first, she paid no mind to the area’s other denizens, but when everything was set up, she recognized one of them.

“Oh, hello. Ah, this must look strange.” Think fast, think fast, think fast. What reason would she have for having this amount of food alone? “I’m going to film a mukbang...” Why had she lied? There was no reason to lie. They probably didn’t even care. Still, she stumbled through lamely. “Um, as a gift for our fans. In case our comeback does well. Can I buy you something to drink? It’ll be a long night for me, I think.”

Slips, for the most part - flowing, loose, and white are her favorite. She occasionally simply wears a t-shirt and underwear to bed. Unless she’s sharing with someone, she doesn’t like to wear pants to sleep.

clouds - describe one of your favorite dreams?

It’s simple, but Jieun regularly dreams about reuniting with her siblings. She left them behind when she left her father’s care, after all, but she holds nothing against them. It’s nice to, for just a moment, feel like she still has someone in the world that will care about her when she’s no longer a performer.

Ting wasn’t sure if he should be amused by the “gift” he had found inside of the package sent to him, or be disgusted by it, but he was leaning more towards the former. His birthday had passed over a month prior and he was still receiving birthday presents from fans, who had sent them directly to dimensions’ headquarters. Back when Unity first debuted, there were a lot of rules against fans sending the boys’ gifts of any kind, but as their group matured and got older, their rules slackened (just a little bit) and now fans were allowed to send them things through the mail. He had been used to receiving all sorts of presents from fans over the past year or so since they were allowed to start receiving packages, but it had been nothing like this before.

“I don’t know if i should be flattered, or..” he trailed off, looking up from the box and glancing over at the person he was currently sitting with. After ordering their takeout, Ting had decided to open what he assumed would be the last package he would receive. He reached for the nearest thing, which just so happened to be a pencil, and reached inside the box, using the writing tool to pick up and hold the piece of lingerie a fan had sent. “…Do you think they wore these? I hope not.”

Jieun’s face betrayed her horror. She understood sending someone something they could use, but she really didn’t want to think of Ting wearing that. At least, nowhere she could see it. His private life was just that - his. She shook her head, as if clearing an etch-a-sketch.

“Eugh. I’ll cross my fingers they haven’t, but maybe you should burn them anyway. Your sasaeng will understand.” Or they wouldn’t. Who knew? “Maybe girl groups really do have it easier in some ways.” She mused, half joking. She’d never heard of anyone sending Wish or Lipstick anything lewd, at least. Then again, she wasn’t sure it would be common knowledge. “At least our fans seem to more or less behave themselves. I guess it’s easier to punish those that don’t if they push a Lipstick member at the airport than to punish someone who does... Well, that.”

A pair of lacy tights. They add a feminine touch to her otherwise relatively simple wardrobe.

dimples - most attractive features of a person’s face?

Lips. Eyes might be the window to the soul, but looking at someone’s lips, particularly someone attractive, helps her focus somewhat on what they’re saying.

plush - how many stuffed animals do you still own?

None. She unfortunately left everything behind when she signed with Dimensions, and on the rare occasion a fan gives her a gift, she isn’t generally allowed or inclined to keep it.

In a word - yes. She’ll only do it if you’re very, very close and she’s certain you won’t mind. She particularly likes spooning, but only if she’s the big spoon.

cupcake - are you a good cook?

Yes! She hates cooking for just herself, though, so if you’re her friend or group member, expect to be fed well. 

backyard - did you ever have an imaginary friend?

No. By the time she had some concept of what an imaginary friend was, she was beyond the age where it was acceptable to have one.

Kang Jieun, born June 21, 1997, is the main vocal of 7rophy, a girl group under Dimensions Entertainment. 

+ Day Two: Talk about your muse’s childhood. Where did they grow up? Did they have any dream jobs besides being an idol? When did they realize they wanted to be an idol?

Jieun grew up in Chuncheon, South Korea, with an older sister, an older brother, and a younger brother. Her father was a preacher, and she spent the majority of her childhood in his church. She sang hymns from a young age, and upon finding out that her father would encourage it, she viewed them as her way of performing without falling victim to vanity as her father warned her singers often did. She wanted nothing more than to sing in the church for the rest of her life as a child, but that changed as she grew older and realized that she wasn't Christian. 

The day Jieun realized she wanted to be an idol wasn't until a recruiter, who had unbeknownst to her been watching her each Sunday at service, finally got her father's permission to speak with her. He gave her a business card and set up a time and day for her to audition.

+ Day Three: Take us back to when your muse was either recruited or auditioned to become an idol. How did that go? How did they feel getting up on stage for recruiters? If your muse could give their younger selves advice before the audition, what would they say?

Outside of the complete lack of support from her family, Jieun's audition went well. She was horribly nervous, but the man who recruited her gave her a pep talk outside the audition room. She sang one of Gal.actic's older songs, What Are You Doing Today, and passed the audition. Her parents signed the contract, and sixteen year old Jieun was officially a trainee. 

If Jieun could give herself advice, she'd tell herself to keep the recruiter's hands off of her, not to attempt the rap (rap was, and would never be, her strong point, no matter how much she appreciated it).

While she has become close with a fair few people over the years, Jieun considers herself exceptionally close to Aerin. She's only a year older, but she considers herself something of a mentor to the younger girl, and likes to take care of her. She has great respect for her writing talent as well, considering she’s written a number of her own raps, and even competed on Unpretty Rapstar and held her own. Beyond that, they’re simply compatible, and while she might consider herself the mentor, Aerin has helped her warm up to people, a skill she had all but lost during training.

watermelon - do films ever make you cry?

While she’d love to deny it, Jieun is often brought to tears by movies. In particular, stories about family hit her where it hurts.

While she would certainly eat sweets if they were offered, Jieun tended toward savory foods. In particular, instant noodles were a favorite. Spicy flavors were the best of all.

honey - favorite term of endearment?

Her favorite thing to call people she’s close with greatly depends on the person. She enjoys customizing it to the person and their relationship.

Her favorite things to be called are generally names that put her in a position of caretaker - unnie, sunbaenim, and though she’d never encourage it herself, umma, mom, and the like were things she enjoyed. While she has issues dealing with intimacy in many forms, she does enjoy taking care of people and feeling relied upon.

clouds - describe one of your favorite dreams?

It started outside. It was nowhere Jieun had been before, and yet it always felt more familiar than her home. She was walking, feeling grass plush beneath her feet. It was breezy but warm, and though her hair blew away from her face and her dress fluttered in the wind, she didn’t feel exposed.

Eventually, after a time of walking, she came to a woman. She was neither young nor old, neither short nor tall. Her face creased with a smile, and though both their dresses were white, they laid down on the ground together and stared straight at the sky. 

It was twilight, though Jieun never knew whether it was dawn or dusk. Clouds so fluffy and pink they looked like cotton candy were on the horizon, marking the beginning of the gradient that was the sky. The pink turned to purple, the purple to blue, and it stretched on and on as far as the sky could see. Her mind tingled with contentment, and though she fought to keep her eyes open, they fluttered shut.
