A lot of people on the internet demonizes Rose Quartz after "that" episode. What are your opinnions about it especially the character?
Ah, the internet, being the internet, was of course too quick to deem Rose as either “bad” or “good”. Luckily, the show is at better hands than that.
I wasn’t a fan of the Rose=Pink theory, not since at least the ending on season 3. I thought that move would flatten both Pink’s and Rose’s characters (before Pink even was a character), but yet again, i was proven just how good the show’s writing is. not only does this twist make a lot of sense, in-universe and narratively, but it also managed to make Pink the most complex, tonal, and interesting character in the entire series in a matter of 2 episodes.
Rose was always complex, don’t get me wrong. But her “humble beginning” and her all too pretty morals made her unreliable to me. I loved Pink, i loved how she was goofy and awkward and bratty. And when you add the two of them together, you get this gem that fits nowhere- she’s not good as a diamond, but she isn’t a common gem either, and that fact alone makes it impossible for her to blend in. She was forced into a role she didn’t want, but because of her status couldn’t ever find true friends who saw her as an equal. think about it: HW gems who are loyal to the system would automatically follow her lead, Crystal gems, those who oppose the system, would reject her because she hadn’t gone through the suffering they had, she’s literally their enemy. even the Diamonds themselves didn’t see her as an equal. She was doomed for a life of loneliness.
Then she had an idea- fake her identity, into someone who will reflect her inner traits without the burden of her origins (who she didn’t feel connected to to begin with). But, in a true Pink fashion, she didn’t think the whole way through- and now there’s a real war to her name, and she’s stuck in this loop of lies that keeps expending, and the situation got too complicated for her to handle. at this point, neither Pink nor Rose could solve the mess she’d created. So she chose one of her personas and stuck to it, because this persona is the one she felt more at ease in. but it’s still a LIE.
I don’t think enough people understand that through all those years, after all those people who loved either Pink or Rose, all those people she unintentionally (and sometimes intentionally) hurt, she never once felt like she had a real friend. I don’t think a single person in her life knew her fully. worse, she felt like she couldn’t let anyone know her fully. I don’t know if she was wrong in this assumption.
Pink\Rose is a tragic character. she was made to be lonely and she died alone, despite being surrounded by people who truly loved her. is her loneliness the outcome of her lack of empathy, or is it the other way around? i’m not sure.
So yeah. I think she’s fucking amazing.
