forever a bucky can’t stop falling in love with captain america truther but not in the weird “bucky sees sam as a steve replacement/steve 2.0” way but in the “being captain america requires a certain type of person, so while steve and sam are different people, they hold a lot of the same core values, beliefs and character traits and bucky just has a type” way.

like sam and steve operate the same in a lot of ways. theyre like-minded - there’s a reason steve chose sam to take up the mantle, and there’s a reason sam’s so good at it. at their core, the have a lot of similarities, and those similarities are something bucky values in a partner. he doesn’t love captain americas for their ability to fight people and kick ass, but for their innate goodness, their commitment to fighting the good fight even when (especially when) they’re outmatched, and their intense dedication to always doing the right thing and protecting people’s freedom. these are all things bucky admires in a person/finds attractive and the captain america mantle has just gathered his type all in one place right in front of him
