Whatever the ups and downs of Starfleet Academy, I will die on the hill that actually some people needed to see a leader sitting weird in a chair. Our concept of who makes a "good leader" is actually way too skewed towards body language, how people dress, their vocabulary and other things that don't actually affect the quality of their decision-making. In 2026, we put too much emphasis on whether someone "looks like a leader" - polling companies regularly ask this about politicians - and not enough emphasis on what decisions people are making and why. And of course this bias ends up working against marginalised groups, like all biases eventually do. ("Why is she sitting like a little girl?" is something I've heard more than once)
Having a leader who rejects staunch formality is weirdly one of the most progressive things Trek has done in years. Think about how life changing it would be if you didn't have to worry about what impression your stance, your clothes and your appearance were giving off. Imagine people reacting purely to the value of what you are saying and doing, and absolutely nothing else.
I CANT😭 the way they look at each other in this like
This ain’t a man in love with someone else. This is a man seeing the love of his life as an older woman and falling deeper.
HAPPY EARLY RELEASE DAY!!!! im so excited so have some Avas

Phoebe: You know, when Chakotay comes over, Kathryn can get a little… Aunt Martha: Psycho? Gretchen: Scary? Aunt Martha: Drunk? Phoebe: All three.

Tuvok’s personal log, Stardate 48317. We now find ourselves stranded in the Delta Quadrant, which is most regrettable. However, as a Vulcan, provided we avoid any further significant calamities, I am confident that I shall see my family again. The same cannot be said for my human colleagues, who will almost certainly perish. Captain Janeway has invited the Maquis to integrate with the crew, having dismissed my proposal to convert Deck 6 into a prison facility. She deemed it appropriate to appoint Chakotay as First Officer, notwithstanding the fact that it was his insistence on piloting his minuscule vessel into the Kazon’s considerably larger one, and knocking it into the Caretaker’s even larger array, that compelled her to breach the Prime Directive in the first place. I shall nevertheless persist in offering the Captain the benefit of my superior counsel as we navigate the path ahead. The Captain has also welcomed aboard two alien vagrants, one of whom is distinguished by whiskers and a most remarkable odour; as such, I shall keep my distance. Suffice it to say, my nasal inhibitor has proven to be wholly inadequate when it comes to Mr Neelix. I shall also endeavour to maintain a record of shipboard statistics which I consider pertinent to our voyage.
Lt. Commander Chakotay – crashes caused – 1
Ensign Harry Kim – stupid questions asked – 3
Crewman B’Elanna Torres – arguments caused – 5
Crewman Neelix – gallons of water replicated - 47
A quick sketch of my wife, Kathryn Janeway, being cute and sleepy
enjoy this stupid thing I made to amuse myself

I know. it makes very little sense.]
Tuvok, meeting Janeway's fiancé, Mark: A woman like you is attracted to a man like this? Tuvok, meeting Chakotay while spying for Janeway: This man is a menace to society Tuvok, watching Janeway make Chakotay first officer over him: This is a mistake Tuvok, watching Janeway fall in love with Chakotay: Girl, are you for real?
star trek beta that i WISH had made it into the show: janeway being a cardassian prisoner of war. a decent proportion of her crew is maquis! her first officer and chief of engineering are maquis! she is someone who has an intimate understanding of how cruel the cardassians can be, and you can't tell me that after that happened to her, she didn't follow cardassian politics closely. what's more, it's the reason she even switched to the command track in the first place. that incident was massively formative for her, and i just wish we could have seen more of how that clearly would have impacted her relationship with at least chakotay and b'elanna if not the rest of the maquis crewmembers.
There's a very brief scene in this one episode where Chakotay is in his office or whatever, he picks this glass of water up out of the replicator and then sets it down directly on the fucking touch screen console on his desk
like, there is so much fucking space on the desk that is not a computer terminal why the fuck would you set it down right there
That's the Maquis rebel in him.😄
It didn’t matter for the same reason Riker sitting on the console didn’t matter. It’s likely non-active until actual skin/fingers press it, or there’s a key code that activates the touch screen once pressed.
It’s also possible that he was reading and didn’t notice where he put the glass down.
@bizships I still like to imagine he'd never do it in front of Kathryn. 😄
You know, like those typical couple's quarrels: Don't lick the knife, don't go into the pickle jar bar handed, don't put anything on the piano...
And once the others isn't there... 😬
When you abandon the lizard babies, they do what they have to do to survive.
deeply obsessed with my only seeing this post because my j/p gif ended up on it
For the past few months I've been working my way through a boxset of Murder, She Wrote because despite growing up watching reruns on TV, I never got to see all twelve seasons of the show when I was a kid.
So for the past few months I've sitting in my living room doing this:
Everytime I see an actor I recognise from Star Trek!
I've seen Odo, Sulu, Katheryn Janeway, Charles Evans, Letant, Q, Kovin & Daniels (same actor), Geordi La Forge, Rachel Garret, Joseph Sisko, etc.
This has honestly become a game of 'I Spy the Star Trek Guy' and it's fun!
The crew are playing twister
B'Elanna: Right hand red. Janeway: *ends up on top of Chakotay* Chakotay: You're doing this on purpose, aren't you? B'Elanna: I stopped spinning like 15 minutes ago. Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't notice.
Back on Earth:
Chakotay: Bad news—Tom locked himself outside of his own house. Chakotay: Good news—he didn’t have to wait around for a locksmith. Chakotay: Bad news—B'Elanna finds it very concerning that I know how to pick locks, and tried to unlock my Tragic Backstory. I was too embarrassed to admit that the reason I learned it was because, at thirteen, I figured that was the kind of skill that would impress cute girls. Chakotay: Good news—a cute girl saw me do it. Chakotay: Bad news—it was Kathryn, and since she's already seen me fall out of several trees, cry because I saw a fawn that was just too damn small, and knows I can ride a unicycle, she'll never think I’m cool no matter what I do.
Janeway: "I feel very comfortable with my height."
Also Janeway: climbing on anything in front of her whenever she talks to someone taller than her.
