Wild horses are a common sight in Ruby Valley in Nevada. I was on my way to Fort Ruby when I saw these horses. They are the progeny of the ponies from the Pony Express days. When the Pony Express ended due to the completion of the transnational telegraph system, the ponies were just released there. They've lived and thrived there ever since.

I was on my way to Craters Of The Moon National Monument in Idaho and I couldn't pass up seeing Shoshone Falls. Obviously, it's not Spring when water would be going over all of the exposed stone, but it was still a fantastic view.

This is my Mom and I at Ground Zero of Project Faultless in Nevada, a 1 Megaton detonation that took place in 1968. The top of that steel pipe used to be ground level. When they detonated it, the ground in the entire valley sank as much as you see here. They decided to find another place to conduct tests after that. It's free to go out and see.

Here I am at the only covered bridge in Washington State that I'm aware of. It's out in the middle of nowhere in southwest Washington State and there's a little place to pull over for pictures when you get there.

Diablo Dam with a spillway open is located in North Cascades National Park and it's free to see and explore. The water is a light blue color, and Diablo Lake is beautiful to see but absolutely bone-chillingly cold year-round. To get to this spot you drive across the top of the dam. The powerhouse can not be seen from this vantage point.

Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge on the Oregon side is one of the most picturesque waterfalls I've ever seen. There's a trail that takes you up to that bridge. Wedding pictures are a common occurrence there.

Alley Spring in Missouri is simply amazing. This is a huge spring where millions of gallons of water surface every day. That red mill over there was built here with a water turbine for grinding grains into flour. Today it's part of the National Park System.
