50 students have been targeted by Islamophobic crimes at Idaho State

An estimated 50 students from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia attending Idaho State Universit have been the targets of a string of hate-related crimes, including off-campus home burglaries, vehicle vandalism and reports of physical abuse. While university President Arthur C. Vailas released a statement of compassion, Kuwait’s higher education minister, Badr Al Eisa, has already taken counter action.

I talk too often about my sadness, the abuse a younger me is still cowering from, and how I spend my days standing lifeless. So here is a poem for the happier days I have trouble remembering.   My sisters and I play koala; holding each other so tight, we can barely breathe, in an effort to prove which loves the other more. Nobody ever wins, but we are winded, sleepy marsupials in the end. The dog doesn’t care if I don’t know what to write. He doesn’t call me a failure, but curls himself closer, and waits for the words to come. I am trying to learn a lot more from the plants sunbathing in my window. They don’t know anything, but to grow.
