I can imagine Link has been feeling like he failed as her knight, that being lost to dragonification was "his fault" because he didn't catch her.

I was 100% convinced she was going to be stuck as the light dragon forever, leaving Link lonely and "without a purpose" after defeating Ganondorf. So I headcanon that Link thought that too… and since you can't rewatch any of her memories outside of the quest menu, he'd be afraid of eventually forgetting her face. :(

And after putting up with Puppet Zelda and the yiga clan impersonating her, he misses the real Zelda more and more. So when he finally sees her, his Zelda, safe again… he can't help but stop being stoic for a moment and let out his suppressed emotions.

Also headcanon when Rauru and Sonia disappear, so does Rauru's arm, but Link's doesn't regenerate. (Purah and/or Robbie would probably design him a prosthetic later)
