For the Curtis brothers (and anyone else who wants to answer) what is your favorite thing about each brother?

“This is a good question. I would definitely have to say that I enjoy my brothers and even though it may not seem like it at times but I do love them. With all my heart. They’ve all I got left and honestly, I don’t think I’d be here without them. They’ve held me down and put my head straight many a time. I may get on to them but I do it out of care. Someone has to parent those two. Sodapop, he’s a gentle soul… may not be thinking with the correct head at certain times but he means well overall. Soda can handle just as much as stuff, bill wise, as I do. He says he ain’t smart but he knows a thing or two. Ponyboy, he’s my more complex sibling relationship… he’s definitely somethin’. He may not realize it but he will go places one day. He’s always been very smart. All in all, I love my brothers dearly.”

“We’re all we got left now that the folks are gone. We can’t be fighting and I definitely can’t be caught in the middle of it too… I love you Ponyboy, Darry. And even though I’m the middle brother, I’m kinda in the middle of everything that goes on between these two but we have our good times. Darry is very supportive and responsible. He can take a lot and not even flinch. He’s always been a strong guy. And Ponyboy, he’s the dreamer. The one who’ll probably get out of this shithole of a town, he somethin’ special that guy… I love my brothers. Couldn’t ask for a different set!”

“I can definitely say that it’s been up and down with my brothers. Thankfully, more than half of those times were up and good times. Sure, Darry and I fight a bit here and there but I know he means well and he’s been handling a lot lately. He only does that because he cares. Yeah, it can get annoying. Glory—how it can get annoying but at the end of the day, he’s doing it out of love. Sodapop, now he has more potential than what he is leading us to believe. He’ll definitely be a hot-shot mechanic. I love my brothers, that ain’t a lie.”

The sound of her heels was familiar—too familiar. Dallas didn’t turn right away. He knew better than that. He knew her better than that.

“Heard you been missing me lately… figures.”

Her voice slid into his spine like a knife dipped in honey. Sylvia stepped into his peripheral vision, lips curved in that knowing smile—the one that always meant she already had the upper hand.

“I was the best thing that ever happened to you.”

She said it like a fact. Like a verdict. Like something he’d already agreed to once upon a time.

Dallas finally turned, cigarette dangling loose between his fingers. His mouth twisted, sharp and unimpressed.

“You were?” he shot back, tone lazy, eyes hard. A lie—but a convincing one.

For a split second, something flickered across her face. Then she smiled again. Slower this time. Meaner.

“Let’s not get wise.”

There it was. The warning. The reminder. Sylvia didn’t need to raise her voice—she never did. She just tilted her head, eyes glittering, already peeling him apart piece by piece.

Dallas’ glare darkened. His jaw clenched as memories slammed into him uninvited—late nights, slammed doors, kisses that tasted like apologies she never meant. All the ways she’d broken him down and stitched him back together wrong.

He hated her for it.

And then—damn it—his eyes softened.

Just a fraction. Just enough.

Sylvia saw it instantly.

Her smile sharpened, satisfied. Victorious.

“That’s what I thought.”

She stepped closer now, close enough that he could smell her perfume—sweet, familiar, dangerous. She leaned in, voice dropping to something almost tender.

“You know…” she murmured, “you never could quit me.”

Dallas said nothing. His silence was louder than any confession.

Because she was right.

And she knew it.
