this poor blog's seen a lot, hasn't it.
in the period of time this blog has been active (six and a half months, give or take a few days), the following has been witnessed:
a return to NYC from destitution in that oh so fair state of Colorado;
a brief stint on the streets of NYC (again) after DHS proved itself to be the failure it is;
a dissolution of the former Voidspace duo and the formation of the Shadelight Collective as it is presently known;
increased visibility in the tricky DA fandom;
an introduction to a little game that could (Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning);
a departure from the bulk of the Fable fandom;
the 'completion' (if you can really call it that) of Roland Deschain's journey to the Tower;
"Are you the Eddie to my Susannah?" - Stephanie;
the unstoppable juggernaut that is Meresino;
the enigmatic yet obviously stoppable juggernaut that was Xenech;
a brain-changing first foray into dissociative hallucinogenics;
an apparent ugly stain on the usually-good name of Reverend Frost;
and really, that's just a few memorable things.
this blog has surpassed the 20k post mark. around that point, blogs tend to get... saturated. not just with content, and not just with awesomeness, but with... less savoury things. less savoury feelings. ghosts that ought to be exorcised. the remnants of errors, soured relationships, poor judgement calls, awful revelations.
some people can soldier through these things and steer their blogs back on the right track -- whatever the "right track" may be for them.
others must purge themselves of the miasma of who-even-knows-anymore that their blog has become, not necessarily for the 'greater good' (whatever that even is), but for their own greater good. because it's no longer home.
and a blog, first and foremost, should feel like home. no matter what kind of blog it is.
it's doubtful that anyone would want the URL 'samarkands' now (it'd been unclaimed all this time, after all...), but it will be thrown back into the available-URL pool anyway. gods know there are so few good ones available anymore as it is. however, just like 'chthonos', this blog will still remain active, because let's face it -- there is a lot of good stuff here, stuff that might need to be found again. and nothing here -- even the worst stuff -- needs to be gotten rid of or forgotten about. it was posted for a reason, and that reason doesn't just disappear because the times have changed and the world has moved on.
if we meet each other again on the path, let us be well-met. and if we don't meet each other again, it is most likely for the best.
but, do remember, kids, and don't let them tell you otherwise -- there is no such thing as 'goodbye'.Â
- the Reverend Frost of Albion, Kirkwall, Amalur, and the InternetÂ
