Megumi said the only thing he knew how to say by memory:

Itadori just shook his head. “I can’t be around you. I love you too much, and there’s never going to be a time when Sukuna won’t use that against me.”

Megumi swallowed past a lump in his throat. “Yuji, please.”

“Megumi, I-” Itadori lifted his chin up to meet his eyes, a thousand words forming on his tongue in a split second as his tear-stained mouth twitched with the unsaid syllables. “I just can’t,” he finally settled on, his head falling limp to rest on his kneecaps. “If you love me—”

“Don’t-” Megumi squeezed his eyes shut and turned his face away. “Don’t fucking start a sentence like that. Of course I love you, that’s why I can’t—”

“You have to understand why we need to—”

“No.” Megumi shook his head fiercely. How the fuck was he losing everything? “I can’t believe-”

Gojo’s voice interrupted. “Yuji? Megumi?” He must have teleported in.

Kugisaki ran over to the kitchen, finding the two of them sitting there. She quickly noticed Megumi’s wounds. “What the fuck happened?”
