Who are you?
My name is Mike Wagner, Junior Artist here. Recently made it in to the Art Department from QA.
What do you do at Four Lights?
I just work on textures and 3D modeling and a little bit of map design. I've done a little bit of this and a little bit of that. We're a small company still so I've had some chances to do a few different things.
What did you do before working at Four Lights? This is it! This is the only thing I've worked on. I have to say this is easily the best job I've had. I've wanted to do games for a long time and it's been a really excellent opportunity to see all the different things that go in to games after all of the different games I've played when I was much younger. You get older and you start asking yourself questions, "Well why is this broken here? Why is this so awesome here? These textures in this game are great!." - Once you start to know those things. That's what got me in and this is all my experience.
What do you do in your free time?
Not much! I'm here a lot, I love my job. Most of the time when I'm using my free time not at work I like to play Ping Pong, watching movies with my friends, just hanging out. Typical nerd World of Warcraft. The usual, you can probably guess League of Legends. What a surprise?!
Why do you want to work in video games?
I think I was sold on the idea finally when I had a Nintendo - actually I had an Atari, not a 2600... An Atari! Atari, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, PlayStation, and then from the PlayStation I moved to the computer because I was playing Need For Speed: High Stakes, Need For Speed 4. And my friend introduced me to, "Hey! Here are these things. You can make your own cars!" Really?! And then I started making my own cars for the games. Had to stick to 300 polycount cars. I started getting creative, I did Trans Ams, and then I ended up getting real creative and making just big happy faces and taking screenshots of it, really fun stuff. And ever since then I was like, "Why would I not want to make games? Why would I want to play a game that I can't modify?" And that's what did it for me!
Check out Episode 5 of our Meet the Team series. Today we introduce Mike Wagner, a Junior Artist here at Four Lights.
