Cary always got lost in his head when he danced, it was part of what made him such a good dancer. He could lose himself entirely in the story and the part he was given. This one in particular was one of his favorites. Manon while not a widely known ballet was one he’d always appreciated particularly in terms of the pas deux’s. He’d been eighteen when he first performed this pas deux for his school's talent show case alongside Harmony. It was one of the few pas deux’s where the difficulty was largely on the male dancer. The scene has Harmony weary as Cary did everything he could to bring the life back into her. This meant Cary was the one pushing the dancer forward and even making Harmony dance. The dance consisted of several difficult lifts on Cary’s part, whether it be tossing Harmony above his head and catching her, or draping her across his shoulders while spinning around the stage.
If the actual dancing wasn’t hard enough there was the heavy emotional material of the scene, and the eroticism that was found throughout it. Harmony’s dress was flowy and resembled rags more than an actual dress which meant a lot of exposure as Cary moved her around and grabbed her before her character died in his arms. He knew there were a lot of men who’d love to be in his position, with Harmony all over him, and getting to grab her in the places he got to touch. But Cary was above it all, after all they’d been dancing side by side since they were eight years old. There had been a period when he was fourteen when getting to grab her like that excited him, but then again almost everything excited him at fourteen. Now it was a process and action like anything else. He had Harmony over his shoulders when he heard Joey from behind him say, “What the fuck?”
Cary was ready to scold him for disrupting when his eyes finally focused on his surroundings and noticed Axel. His eyes took him in carefully like he had appeared out a dream. Harmony was still above him as he stared, arms holding her there, and surprisingly Harmony complained before Cary’s muscles. “Cary?” She questions above him. He clears his throat and sets her down as his eyes dart around the room and back towards Axel. Harmony and Joey both come to his side and stare at Axel in confusion. “Am I hallucinating or is that Axel Smythe? You know that singer Harmony’s always lusting over in her little gossip rags?” Joey asks leaning over into Cary’s space. “I don’t lust over him,” Harmony complains before raising her brows a bit, “But I wouldn’t say no to him.” Cary shifts uncomfortably as Joey asks, “What’s he doing here?” Cary shrugs his shoulders a bit and says, “He’s Harry’s best friend or something.” Joey hums and then says, “Well I never thought I’d say it but it seems we made friends with the wrong brother.” Cary rolls his eyes at Joey and says, “I’ll handle this. Alone,” he warns them both before leaving their sides to walk to where Axel stands.
“What...What are you doing here...,” Cary starts to ask before adding, “Man” Cause that sets a clear boundary right? “I...if Harry finds out you’re hanging around me he’s going to take out the entire east coast with his tantrum,” Cary warns trying to avoid looking at Axel too closely since every time he does he finds his defenses slightly lowered.
“Hey, hey, stop that.” Axel replied as he looked into Cary’s eyes and cupped his cheeks. “I know this is all a bit crazy.” He uttered out. “Hell, even I’m confused.” He spoke as he caressed the other mans cheek with the pad of his thumb. “I never believe in love at first sight. No, actually I believed it was quite impossible to fall head over heels for someone that spilled his drink all over the front of my chest.” He stated with a sigh as he raked one hand through his hair. “But the way you were there for me that night, the way you cared and didn’t walk out my bedroom door, I knew Cary. I knew that you were someone that was meant to be in my life.” He rambled on as his eyes began to water and he took five breaths in and out to calm his nerves. “My brothers and sisters could care less, my mom is gone. All I have is Harry, and not even he can understand the way I am.”
Running his hand up and down Cary’s back as he listened to him. “Everyone needs someone Care.” He whispered in reply. “Every heart tends to beat for one person, you know.” He stated before he was gripped tightly. Wrapping his arms around the other male he smiled softly. “Do you not see that I am not going anywhere? Do you not see that pair of me is already broke, and I have no one to blame, but myself?” He questioned as he sighed. “Don’t push me away, just hold me close. Give me this. Give me a chance.” He responded quietly.
Swaying the pair of them back and fourth Axel held Cary quite close to his. Running his hand through the other males hair he smiled softly. “I’m not going to let you go Care. I promise, I’m not ever going to let you go.”
Cary squeezes his eyes shut as Axel’s words wash over him. He thinks of that night and how most probably would have walked out once Axel revealed himself to be someone who’s broken. It upsets him to think of Axel in that state and someone not being there to help him. But at the same time he feels upset thinking about the person helping him not being him. He doesn’t know Axel. Not really. But he knew how to help him, and he doesn’t think anyone else does. Maybe that means more than anything else there is to know. He is only more frustrated thinking about these siblings and people who hurt and abandoned him. It only crystalizes how much he really does care about Axel.
He finally allows himself to look up into Axel’s face and then lets his hand slip up along Axel’s chest coming to rest over his chest where his heart is. Axel’s heart is already broken, but he’s scared to break it more. But maybe he’s what can fix it. The more he thinks about it he realizes it’s not broken cause it still works, it’s still here looking out at him from behind Axel’s eyes. It’s still hoping and loving and wanting and needing someone, and it’s him. To walk away from Axel would be like throwing it to the ground and he can’t, cause all he wants to do he realizes is keep it safe from everything and everyone. Is that not why he wants to run in the first place? To keep Axel’s heart safe from him, but it’s not safe from him anyway cause it’s already right here in his hands. Axel needs him and now Cary needs him too and it makes no sense, he’s only seen him twice. But he already means more than people he’s known most of his life somehow.
He feels his breath he needs to get out cause he’s been holding it the entire time Axel speaks to him catch in his throat as Axel’s fingers run through his hair. He lets out the breath in a way that makes his whole body shake. He let’s go of what he’s been holding back and it has his body crushing as close to Axel’s as it can manage. His arms tightening around his waist as he clings to him and whispers weakly, “I need you. I don’t...I don’t know how I need you but I do.” He clutches to him tightly and covers a whimper by burying his face into Axel’s neck, “I’m scared...I need to be there for you always...I don’t want you to ever need me like you did and not be there...But...I don’t know how to do that and be me cause I can’t...I can’t be there all the time, but it feels like I need to be. I don’t want you to hurt cause of me ever. What if I’m not there when you need me and I hurt you?” He cries softly, “I never want to do that, Axel.”

fervour:
it had been cary’s grace that had immediately captivated morgan’s attention when they’d first met one another. and whilst their relationship had come to an end, he still had a lot of respect for that level of grace and professionalism that seemed so natural to him; all of which morgan had to practically study to achieve a tenth of. it was impressive, attractive – and morgan was sure it always would be, regardless of how long they’d been exes for. as cary walks in; his breath catches in his throat, dread amping up briefly, until cary, so easily tugs it all from him his frame, without intention. watching him make the room his own – seeing him so hastily taking control of the absurd, uncontrollable scenario they’d both been thrown within; that could’ve so easily been an instant disaster. it made him feel calmer, a little better about their situation. tense shoulders drop and he too allows a good-natured laugh to follow cary’s words. “or they’ll say you were absolutely wonderful and i was a total prick, we’ll see who’s side they’re on this time around.” he hums back, bitterness embedded within every word. though not directed at cary, more at the individuals around them so hungry for a story – they were blood-thirsty, ready to chew them up and spit them out, with no regard for how much it’d hurt either of them. they were partly the reason for the break up in the first place. at least, that’s how morgan had come to view it.
still, he suspects dwelling won’t do their circumstance or conversation any favours, so he smiles softly – gaze so quickly hooked on the other’s expression. he looked good. then again, when didn’t he? “have you been well?” he finds himself asking before he can stop himself from saying a word, saying more than he had any right to. he cared though, even now. especially now. since it’d been so long since he’d seen him and he had no real way of knowing what he was doing or how he was doing. he could focus on what the media said about him; and he had on occasion, but he knew better than to take their words as gospel; nothing better than hearing the truth, straight from the horse’s mouth.
cary feels his nerves close to the surface when he finally has morgan’s attention. typically cary has always been someone unphased by anyone no matter their level of prestige, talent, or fame. how were they any different than himself really? cary never even felt those apprenhensive feelings of stage fright or being looked at and expected to be perfect. but morgan was perhaps the only person who brought out these feelings in cary. he felt the awe that might naturally be expected when confronting someone who was famous or talented. no he was in awe of morgan from the moment he met him, and it just never went away. he still thought he was just as worthy of his admiration and gaze. and that desire to be looked at by him and to impress him still remains too. loving one another enough was never the problem. no it was all the other shit that surrounded them. the constant intrusion of others was one thing. there was the narrative of the break up put out there by the media and then there was a multitude of truth’s he supposed. as far as cary was concerned he was to blame for it. his inability to slow down, to not be so driven in his work to stop and make time for himself to breathe let alone others. this wasn’t the narrative the media had consumed though. no, cary had come off rather well in the break up. cary was painted as the good guy, the one who had been dumped cause morgan couldn’t handle being upstaged by him or the one who was just too sweet to be the cause of any sort of break up.
cary sighs at what morgan says and nods weakly, “well i hope they take their shots at me this time, be closer to the truth.” he feels morgan’s eyes on him and he feels just as he always has, like he’s lucky to have his attention. so he immediately looks back at him and struggles not to reach across to table to take his hand and gain the steadiness that would come with it. he smiles gently at morgan and shrugs his shoulders a bit, “how i always am i suppose. alright enough, busy.” there’s a pause in the air for a moment, cary imagines it’s filled with that which he can’t say. the truth which is that he’s alright, but that he misses morgan. misses having him beside him and being able to take his comfort and give it back to him in return. he swallows it down though and asks, “and you? how are you?”

Axel looked at Cary as the lines of his palms being traced over by the other male. “I am not asking you to run away for weeks with me Cary, just one weekend. You get to show me your world, I think it’s only fair that you let me show you mine.” He whispered as the guy spoke. “I mean if you did I am sure I would have met you before my New Years. I would never take you away from something you love forever.” He said with a small chuckle.
Looking at the man his affection lied in he shook his head. “Who’s not to say that I wouldn’t break yours?” He questioned bitting his lip. “Break me Cary, but I would still get up and manage to chase after you still.” He whispered looking the other male in the eyes.
Kissing the dancer Axel has never felt more happy to be in one place with someone. “Let go Care, I got you.” He spoke his arms wrapped around the others neck as he leaned into the hand that caressed his cheek swaying them still. “No more questioning it, just live in the moment and allow me to be what you need.” He whispered once more into the others ear. “I’m not letting you go.”
Cary hesitates looking up at him and whispers, “I...I can’t...I...Axel...,” he suddenly senses the danger growing. Even as he says that he can’t he feels Axel settling in his chest the way he refuses to let happen. He’s dug his way in and is so close to getting stuck there. That can’t happen. No, he has to put a stop to this right now or else he’ll never be able to say no. Axel will join the few people who Cary has let in, most of them family. And if that happens Axel will be able to say jump and Cary will only ever be able to ask him how high.
Cary looks away and mutters, “No ones ever broken my heart. My brother wasn’t wrong. I have a habit of doing it. I broke my own heart once, but that’s about it.” When Axel says that he can break is heart, Cary surprises himself by gripping tightly to Axel and blurting out, “Don’t you get it though? I don’t want to break your heart! I like you too much already. You don’t need to keep trying to get me to need you or want you or like you or say yes to you! You’ve already done it. All I’ve got left is trying to talk you out of needing me or wanting me, cause I don’t know how to do it to myself.”
He feels frustration at himself at the admission, but Axel’s holding him and feels so real under Cary’s hands. Feels solid, like there’s nothing but him and no other options. And that dread begins to wash over him as he begins to realize he’s already lost the battle he’s been having with himself more so than Axel. Axel’s right, he’s got Cary. There’s nothing more to question, he needs him. So he hides his face in Axel’s neck cause he can’t bare to look at him anymore, cause it’s too overwhelming. He just needs to feel Axel there with him instead.
goldenastheycome:
“If it’s a boy I would like him to carry your name as his middle name.” She replied. “Dalton is better suited than Dick or Dicky.” She spoke in agreement to him with a laugh calming down a bit.
“I am how certain that we will have to deal with the anger of Stacey my manager than anyone else.” She spoke quietly. “But we used double protection, so could really be to blame?” She asked him looking deeply into his eyes.
“Does that mean I get cuddles for two now that we established I’m not ever leaving you? I don’t want to be without you being here with you, together, has made my life a lot easier. You are my person Dalt.”
Dalton smiles a bit and says, “That’s fair. I’ve got my dad’s name as my middle. I’ve never minded it.” He laughs and says, “Okay I think we’ve both decided we’re vetoing Dick, Dicky, Richard, and Bobby. So we’ve already made progress,” he jokes.
He rolls his eyes and says, “You need to learn to tune her out like I have. Everytime she starts in on us I manage to block her out by just running over the lyrics of various 90s and 2000s teen drama theme songs. The only time I hear a thing she says is when you start to get upset, then I’m back to snap back at her.”
He smiles gently at Matilda and pulls her back into his arms and kisses her forehead, “Of course. Though we should probably eat the take out before it gets too cold.”
fourteenaway:
Axel sighed as he listened to Cary. Unlike having listened to his sister about moving in with her and escaping his mom he had chosen to stay. Stay until the only person he had left was nothing more than what was in the iron vase he kept at home. “When will you learn to forgive yourself?” He questioned knowing full well that was a question he should have been asking his self. “I get you want to protect him Cary, but not everything you can control and the only person left to escaped that is him.” He replied as he bit his lip. “I used to think I was as straight as a board until I kissed this guy. My mother would frown on it and so would my siblings, am I going to change being openly gay because of them, no. I am who I am and I love who I love.” He stated looking at the other man.
Having Cary grab his hand tightly and having listened to him the singer sighed once more. “Give up, I’m not going anywhere.” He spoke firmly leaning into Cary pressing his forehead against his. “Just accept that I bought a ticket out here and two for a trip back, because I don’t plan on leaving until I can talk you into taking a vacation with me back to California. I want you back in my house where we meet, and I want you back in my bed holding me like the night we first meet. I’m not leaving you. I can’t get you out of my head, and it drove me insane to the point I had to find you.” The taller man spoke. “Does that not mean a thing to you?”
“And I’m not just a musician.” Axel teased back as he gripped Cary’s waist in his own hands drawing the other male in closer as he leaned forward and whispered in the mans ear. “Don’t fight it Care, don’t resist me, it’ll just make me want all of you more. I could have had you in that dance locker room uttering more than just my name, but I don’t plan to fuck you until you know I am here to stay.” He spoke in a whisper nipping at Cary’s earlobe.
Holding Cary close to him his hands trailing in his hair he smiled softly swaying them as the other man did to him that night. “Fall love, my arms are open to catch you.” He replied quietly cupping the males chin lifting his face to his own before pressing a gentle kiss to the others lips. “Just let me catch you.” He whispered after breaking their lips apart his forehead placed against the dancers.
He shuts his eyes shortly and bites his lip as Axel speaks. It’s impossible to deny that he has feelings for Axel at this point. It’s not just a physical attraction, it’s more and that’s terrifying. Why’d his brother’s best friend have the be the guy that finally has him feeling something again. He traces his fingers over the lines of Axel’s palm and sighs, “I struggle to take time off for any reason. I don’t really do vacations, Axel. That’s a negative with being involved with me. I mean you realize the only reason I was in California for New Years was because I didn’t take time off during Christmas to visit my family and got bullied by my brother about not seeing him. That was a three day vacation. I typically only take vacations when I’m injured and can’t dance. Or if there’s a family emergency I guess. I flew out once for like six hours for one of Harry’s movie premires and then flew back at like four in the morning. I’m a workaholic, Axel, I don’t take time off.”
He sighs and says, “Yes it means something to me. I like you alright. But this isn’t simple or easy for several reasons, not just my brother. I don’t want to be someone who breaks your heart, but I know myself and even if I don’t want to break your heart, I might manage to still.”
As Axel whispers in his ear Cary hold onto Axel tightly and groans softly when Axel nibbles on his earlobe. He sighs and lets his face be turned up to kiss Axel slowly. Cary reaches up as their foreheads rest against one another and strokes Axel’s cheek gently before kissing along his jaw and whispering, “I’m lucky if I’m still remotely gripping the ledge right now.” He tightens an arm around Axel’s waist and for this moment he can really forget al the reasons to not let himself fal and just be happy in the moment.
Matilda looked at him. “At least he wasn’t named Dick or Dicky.”
Wiping her eyes she looked at him with a sad smile. “No more scaring you, I know you will take care of us, that’s not a question in my mind.” She replied after he finished talking and took his hand in hers. “I have no doubt that our child would need their father too. Dalton you are one of the most loving and caring men I know. All you have down is give yourself to me and that was the greatest thing that has happened to me and it will be the same for our child.”
Running her hand through his hand she sniffled listening to him speak as her eyes watered. “I need you so much, I love you so much, and I don’t know how I thought I could do this without you. It is terrifying, terrifying to both of us, but I assume that we will manage to get through it together verses apart.” She whispered.
"Well see there, we’re already making some important decisions as future parents. We’ll not be naming our child Dick or Dicky, already got one thing decided,” Dalton says trying to make her smile and relax.
He sighs and says, “I don’t want you to worry about my reputation or my career. Whatever people think that’s on them. I just care about you and our baby. Whatever happens, I mean it. I don’t care about anything but you two.”
He nods and pulls away from her briefly to wipe away her tears and kiss her face, “I love you too. I couldn’t bare the idea of being without you. I need you more than you know Tils.”
fourteenaway:
Axel smiled as Cary talked about Harry. “I mean I can see it, I don’t think I have been smacked as many times from a guy for waking him up.” He replied with a small laugh. “So maybe you are actually right for once.” He said with a small poke to Cary’s side.
The short haired brunette singer shook his head holding his hand up to stop the other man from speaking. “You can add kissing me to that list, I know you would do it everyday if you felt it was the right thing to do.” Axel replied before sighing. “Will you stop worrying about what Harry would think or do, if something feels right it just does. Being here with you feels right to me. I value Harry and I’s friendship, but I can’t help thinking that my best friends brother is the one for me.” He whispered biting his lip looking at Cary intensely.
“So you’re telling me this man here likes dancers?” He asked the girl glancing at Cary as she spoke causing him to causing him to laugh. “I suppose I can learn to dance, I did tell his brother I was flying here to take lessons from him, I suppose I can’t go back home without learning a few of those moves.” He rambled for a minute smiling at the two. “No Care it’s fine, now I know what you are into.”
Listening to Cary speak of both his sister and brother Axel smiled. He didn’t have enough to tell about his siblings so it was nice to hear how Cary talked about his.
Axel listened to Cary compliment him squeezing his hand. “You are the most attractive man I have ever laid eyes on.” He whispered before hearing the change of the song, his own work. “Come on lets dance to the song I wrote about you, I just had to title it differently so your brother and my management wouldn’t know.” He spoke getting up pulling Cary with him. “I do hope you like it.” He said before he mouthed along to the words wrapping his arms around Cary.
Cary hesitates when Axel stops him speaking and mutters, “I’m his older brother and I already feel guilty for everything I’ve done that’s made him no longer love or trust me like he used to, and I feel guilty for what I didn’t do to protect him. I can’t not think about him. Even if it’s not what’s best for me, if it’s what he thinks is best for him, then I should do it.”
Cary pauses though as he looks at Axel and feels his heart pick up just looking at him. It’d be a total lie to say he doesn’t want him and feels comfortable and happy across from him. He’s trying hard to keep the voice in his head telling him the feeling is only temporary and it would all fall apart anyways louder than the one telling him to be happy for once. He reaches across and strokes Axel’s wrist gently though and then just takes his hand tightly in his and glances up at him shyly and sighs, “I’m just hoping maybe I can talk you out of perusing this cause I’m doing a bad job at talking myself out of accepting.”
He shakes his head and says, “It’s not just that he’s a dancer. There’s a lot of dancers. There’s more to it,” he complains weakly. He bites his lip when Axel calls him the most attractive man he’s ever laid his eyes on. It doesn’t seem like it could be true. Cary bites hard on his lip when he hears that the song was written by Axel for him. His cheeks turn red and he can’t help but think of the countless other songs written about him already. But he’s never danced to a song written about him with the person who wrote it. He blushes slightly as Axel takes his hand and then pulls him into his arms on the dance floor.
He hears the songs playing and he stops thinking for a moment like he always does when he dances. All he can focus on is his feet following time with the music and Axel’s. He drops his cheek to rest against Axel’s shoulder before pressing his face into his neck. He feels so safe there in his arms, not wanting to let go. He swallows and whispers, “You’re making it so hard to not fall for you.”
goldenastheycome:
Matilda nods along with him. “I will just have to call you Bill from now on, you know to tease you.” She spoke. “Bobby is not better than Bill.” She said with a small laugh.
Hearing him speak she was sobbing. “But baby…” She trailed off hearing his next words. “O-Okay, but promise me what I am about to tell you won’t change anything.” She whispered looking up at him as she held his hand tightly.
The women looked over at Dalton to gauge his reaction sniffing as she lifted her arm to wipe at his eyes as she held him close, he hand clenching his shirt. Looking up into his eyes. “I-I never thought I could love someone more in a moment like this, but I love you Dalt. I’m sorry I scared you.” She whispered as she stroked his face with her hand. “I-I’m scared, I didn’t want you to leave me, and I planned to leave you without letting you see at first.” She spoke as she reached up to kiss him softly. “I don’t know what to do, I would never want to take your first child away from, I know you would be an amazing father.” She said softly.
Dalton frowns lightly and says, “Hey don’t punish Bobby for his parents poor decisions.”
He sighs and strokes her hair and squeezes her in his arms kissing her face. “I could never leave you Tils. I need you. I’ll take care of you. Both of you. We can do it. You’re...I can’t think of anyone who would be a better mom than you. You love harder and care more than anyone I know. That’s all a kid really needs. Someone to love and care about them. We can give them all the material things, but no one will love our child more than you.”
He tightens his hold around her and shuts his eyes softly before whispering, “Maybe it’s not how we planned it. But I’ve always wanted kids, and there’s no one who I’d rather raise a kid with. No one who I’d rather go into something exciting but terrifying like this with either.”
fourteenaway:
Axel smiled hearing every word that fell from Cary’s mouth. “Harry would always be my friend, we’re going to grow old and check in the nursing home together and throw the amazing parties and keep the other residents up for all hours of the night. Normally I wouldn’t let him leave my side, or I his, but I, as you see me now, had to come and still my best friends heart.” He whispered. “I know he’ll be pissed, but I believe that we can’t help who we believe are meant for us.” He spoke in turn. “I feel tethered to you it the best way possibly. “He openly admitted.
Feeling Cary pull away after he had returned the kiss that Axel gave him he blushed slightly. “Y-yeah, I’ll walk.” He spoke as he was led to the speakeasy they were going out with his arm thrown around the smaller mans shoulders.
Having walked in the slightly quiet place that was dimly lit place taking Cary’s hand as he began talking to the younger girl. Looking on in admiration before hearing the girl ask his rate, smirking softly Axel caught on a bit and lean forward. “I would give him a nine point nine. He would have had a ten, but I’m still single.” He replied before pulling back to look around and bobbed his head to the music that was playing.
Being led to the table he looked at Cary before at the young girl. “One second handsome.” He replied as he motioned the younger girl over. Seeing her come over Axel leaned over and whispered in her ear asking if she would take his first album and play track nine before very discreetly handed her the album after he explained it was a song he had wrote for Cary. Watching her walk off he smiled amused before looking back at Cary.
“She seems to care about you a lot, quite a little feisty one as well.” He spoke back. “Who wouldn’t have a crush on you?” He asked as took Cary’s hand in his looking him over. “Still a nine point nine.” He said softly.
Cary heistates a smile and says, “Believe it or not, I’ve seen what my brother is like as an old man and it’s not fun. He’s the kind of old man to yell at people to stop making noise and get off his yard. He also really likes to hit you with his cane, always the knee or the shin. By the grace of god I’m faster than he is or I might not be a dancer today the way he used to go after me,” Cary huffs.
Cary sighs and mutters, “Still think you’re making a bad decision there. He holds grudges and I’m still telling you I’m not worth the trouble. Seriously, I mean my interests are basically just dancing, I eat in the same place nearly every night or I got home and I eat basically the same thing only worse cause it’s pasta from the panty rather than homemade. When I’m old the most exciting thing I’ll probably do is still try to dance only to break my hip. I’m consistent until I’m not cause when it comes to people I don’t get attached. And you’re...you’re nice and I really wish you were a little more of an asshole and more unattractive and not so...you. That way it’d be easier to just not step into this landmine.”
Cary sighs as Axel and Gianna commiserate and Gianna smiles easily and says, “I wouldn’t sweat it. You don’t have much competition. His idea of a celebrity crush is a dead ballet dancer. I mean he kind of likes an alive one too, but he only gave him a solid nine, and I’m pretty sure he just wants to have sex with him once, not actually date him.” Cary glares at her and says, “Gianna I swear. I will never come back here and I will tell your grandmother it’s because of you.”
Gianna goes silent and takes the album from Axel shooting a slight glare at Cary before walking away. Cary sighs at the table and shrugs, “I’m just lucky that she’s like a sister to me and not my actual sister. If I had to deal with both her and Harry, I doubt I’d still be standing. Cassy has the potential of being just like her though, which is terrifying. I’m glad I don’t still live at home. I got lucky that Cassy is almost young enough to be my kid rather than my sister. Means that most of my extended time with her was when she was cute and only knew so many words. My parents adopted her when I was fourteen and she was just about two. She was so cute, looks more like our parents than Harry and I to be honest. Her and Harry can’t stand each other, but God if they aren’t similar. Honestly she should be terrified of Harry, no ones got the worst of him more than her, but she’s probably the one most happy to throw his mess right back in his face. She’s thirteen now and I pity my parents having to deal with her in a few years.”
He blushes a bit and finds himself reaching carefully for Axel’s hand and tracing across his wrist with his fingers. It feels different than he’s ever felt before about someone. Like his heart is pounding and he has to stay still when all he to do is stand up and drop himself into Axel’s arms and hide his face in his neck and tell him he wins, he’s got him, just don’t break him. He tries to hold his ground though as weak as it is and mutters, “You’re prettier. Your eyes, your hair, your face, it’s nice or whatever.” He shifts uncomfortably before he hears the music change slightly.

Matilda looked at him smiling sadly still. “I don’t know how you do it, you always read me so well.” She replied softly. “It is one of the things I love about you.” She responded as she listened to the name roll off his tongue. “Bill Ephron, hey out to date names could be sorta cute.” She spoke laughing half heartedly.
Feeling herself being stopped to the path to her bags after she told him not to go into the bathroom and that she was leaving him, she looked up into his green eyes. “D-Dalt, it could ruin you. I can’t do this to you.” She mumbled out taking his hand. “You didn’t nothing wrong, I promise.” She spoke as a few more sobs left her lips as she took his hand in hers. “You could never do anything wrong in my eyes. You have done nothing but accept me for who I am and like me because of it.” She said.
Feeling her heart pang, she never planned on it to come to this, she never wanted to leave Dalton, for the first time in a very long time he had made her extremely happy. Happy in the sense that she wanted to wake up everyday next to him just to be able to see him smile in the mornings.
Still holding onto his hand she herself took it upon her to lead him into the bathroom. Letting go of his hand she bend down and picked up the test from the waste bin that she had discarded of. “D-Dalton, I’m pregnant.” She whispered as her a broken sob left her lips as she held out the test for him to see. “I knew something was wrong with my body so I ordered a test and took it while you were away to see if I was right.” She said sadly as she hugged him, burying her face in his chest.
Dalton nods in agreement, “Sure they can. But Bill isn’t. At least keep it at William or Will. I mean I call Bobby, Robert and Bob sometimes for fun, but Bobby’s definitely a lot better.”
Dalton doesn’t know what she’s talking about but he shakes his head quickly, “I don’t care. I’d rather be ruined with you, than...hell Matilda there’s no alternative. If you go I’d be ruined too, so let me be ruined with you if those are the options.”
He felt the tears clouding his vision as she pulled him into the bathroom. and picked something up. He was too busy rubbing his eyes to notice at first, before the words suddenly hit his ears. He hiccuped in the middle of one of his cries before blinking past the tears and falling mostly silent. He rubbed his eyes again so he could see and take the test from her and stare down at it. He’d seen enough of those pregnancy test commercials on tv to know two lines meant pregnant. He sniffed and continued to stare down at it in frozen confusion before he felt Matilda’s arms winding around him and her face burying in his chest.
His hand rose slowly to hold her against him, still slightly in shock as he soothingly rubbed her back and occasionally stroked her hair. Perhaps it was crazy but honestly he felt relief wash over him. A baby wasn’t what he had in mind anytime soon, but it certainly wasn’t his worst fear, being left was much worse. And if his father had been able to handle it when he was younger than Dalton was now, on his own, and on a teacher’s salary certainly Dalton should be able to right? He tightens his arms around Matilda and kisses her forehead softly and whispers, “It’s okay. It’s all going to be okay, Tils. No matter what, it’ll be okay. I promise. Whatever you want to do, I’ve got you, always. You or both of you, I’m here.”

Listening to Cary, Axel seem to cling onto his every world. There was something to Cary that Axel was vastly drawn to besides that of his looks. “Parents are tricky, but regardless of it all we all know that deep down they love us. It’s just a little tough love. I believe we are able to stand stronger after going through some of the things that they put us through.” He spoke in turn. “Growing to know Harry, he seems to need me in a way that I need him. He and I both need a friend that is going to be there for each other and it a way the night we met, I believe it was certainly meant to happen. He and I have some similarities.”
Smiling softly listening to Cary speak in turn again about Harry he treasured the way he spoke about not hating his brother. “You both love each other, because at the end of the day you both need it, you need that love and brother dynamic.” Axel spoke up with a side smile as he took Cary’s hand in his once more.
Laughing slightly Axel drew the man back in by his waist. “Never doubt angel, anything is quite possible.” He replied listening to Cary describe what had happened to Harry and his dine in spot. “Harry likes to complain about just about anything. Perhaps it’s was a ruse and he knew deep down it was the perfect spot for the blonde headed girl you speak of. He could have hoped you wouldn’t have caught him dead in such a place he thinks has such distaste as a distraction tactic.” He spoke with a laugh. “And you caught him in the act. Point one for Cary.” He teased as he leaned in pressing his lips to the other males once more.
“Oh hush, I come with a whole bunch of tricks up my sleeve.” He spoke. “I was in hopes of you saying yes so I planned a little something special to show you of my favorite place to go to be alone.” He said chewing on his bottom lip.
Cary smiles and says, “I’m glad he has you. He didn’t have many friends growing up. He had me, but he doesn’t trust me to not ruin things for him anymore or something. But I guess it’s slightly fair and the feelings somewhat mutual. There’s stuff I wouldn’t trust him with cause I think a part of him would love to see me fall and fail. So long as it’s my own doing or his. I trust him that he’d be there for me if someone else tried to knock me down. But if he’s the one who gets to do it, I think he would. A part of my brother hates me because he thinks I’m perfect or at least good at pretending to be. I’d love to show him I’m not, maybe it’d help his jealously. But to show him would be to give him an opening to hurt me with it.”
Cary smiled a bit as he was pulled in by his waist and called angel. Cary grins and says, “Well that’s true.” He’s glad when Axel pulls him into a kiss cause he would have gone for it himself. Cary leans in and kisses him gently before settling against Axel’s side and dragging his arm over his shoulders as they cross the street, letting his own hook around his waist. “Alright, Prince Charming, then you better get to moving your feet or I’ll move them for you. But I’ve done a lot of that already today, so it’d be great if you did it yourself,” he hums walking him to the restaurant.
He takes him down the steps into the little speakeasy like restaurant. It’s dimly lit with a bar and dance floor playing quiet ballroom music or the occasional swing tune. But other than few people who hang around the bar and are dancing it’s red clothed tables with lanterns and couples talking quietly to one another while they eat. The hostess is a sixteen year old girl who’s flicking through her phone before she peeks up from the sudden burst of light coming from the street. She squints and then smiles widely and hops off the stool she’s sitting on and says, “Cary! Thank God you’re here. Grandma’s been a mess cause you’ve been gone. Think we were a day away from me getting sent to your place with several bags of food to do a welfare check.”
Cary smiles and says, “Well you know dancing and then I had to go back home since I spent Christmas here.” She nods and then glances at Axel and says, “And you brought back a boy,” she leans in but whispers far too loudly still, “Can’t really see him in the dark. It’s not Joey or that awful brother of yours again is it?” Cary laughs and shakes his head, “No, it’s his best friend.” She raises her brows and says, “Cary, either my grandmother’s gonna kill you because you refuse to bring actual dates here and she seems to think she’s your grandmother too and wants to marry you off so she can stuff your dancing children full of her cooking...,” Cary grins slightly at her before she continues, “Or that awful brother of yours is going to murder you cause you’re about to...,” she glances around before hissing, “bang his best friend.” She succeeds in making herself and Cary both blush before she asks, “So which is it?” He leans forward and says, “I’m not trying to...I’m not trying to do that...He wouldn’t leave me alone, okay?” She frowns then and glances over Cary’s shoulder at Axel trying to squint to see him in the dark, “Is he at least good looking or should I call my Donny and Marco to rough him up?” Cary shakes his head quickly and says, “No. No. No. They nearly killed Joey after he...you know with Tracy.”
She huffs and says, “But is he cute? Scale of 1 to 10.” Cary bites his bottom lip and hisses at her, “Yes, he’s...I don’t know a nine and a half at least.” She grins widely and says, “Damn,” she pauses then and looks Cary over and then giggles, “Aw...you like him.” Cary blushes bright red though no one can see and hisses back, “I do not.” She shakes her head and says, “You brought him here. You don’t bring anyone here. You like him. Aw...your brother’s gonna murder you, but if somehow you make it out alive can I be a bridesmaid at the wedding? Grandma will cater of course.” Cary feels his cheeks burning as he says, “Gianna shut up. There is going to be no wedding. There’s this one date and then he’ll get bored with me and I’ll live to dance another day because my brother won’t break my knee caps.” Gianna just smirks at him before Cary growls, “Can you just get us a table Gianna? We’re in a bit of hurry.” She smiles and grabs the menus and mutters, “Yeah for the wedding rehearsal.” Cary wants to smack his head against the wood paneled walls as he follows her thanking his lucky stars that Gianna only acts like his sister and isn’t actually his sister cause he’d never survive it.
When he sits down at the table he feels like he needs to rest his head there cause he’s aged a hundred years because of Gianna. He manages to finally look at Axel and sigh, “I think I miss the days when I first moved here and Gianna was a nine year old who had such a massive crush on me she could barely say hi to me. There might be something to it being better to be feared than loved.”
