Shoutout to myself for somehow creating a cover for a fic that I have neither found a title for nor have written a full sentence for it in the past week
I'm still working on Untitled Martymania fic, I promise.
“I’ll admit,” Martin said dully, “when First Citizen—excuse me—when Doctor Brown mentioned that you were his assistant, I was under the impression that you’d be…different.”
“Different how?”
“For one thing, a stronger academic background. You’re not an honors student—you’re not even a straight-A student,” his other self said with disapproval. “What work do you do for him?”
“Uh, usually being an extra pair of hands to hold stuff, helping clean equipment, or running to the store for parts. Mostly stuff like that.”
“So, you just fetch things for him,” Martin summarized with that cold tone of his. He tilted his head slightly to the side and looked at Marty as if he were a particularly difficult puzzle he was trying to solve. “Anyone could do that. Why would he pick you for this job?”
“Christ,” McFly grunted, leaning into Martin’s space, “will you lay off?”
“I’m sorry,” Martin said, not sounding apologetic. “I’m just curious to how—” he huffed a humorless laugh, “—to how he managed to become Doctor Brown’s assistant with so few qualifications.”
The end of Back to the Future was a surreal experience for Marty, but I feel like the first hurdle was accepting that Doc was still alive. The whole mission to the past was to save Marty's best pal. It worked. He did it. They needed to hug.
I started this drawing last year when I finally got to see one of my favourite movies of all time at the cinema for the first time. And then I didn't come back to it for months haha.
But I decided to finish it for my dad's birthday since Back to the future is his favourite movie. So please enjoy!
Untitled Martymania fic has now reached 10k words. Here's another snippet:
“Whoa!” Verne exclaimed, “you have an earring!”
McFly flinched at the sudden attention, but relaxed once he realized the reaction was positive.
He smiled at the boy. “More than one,” he said, tucking the loose strands of hair behind his ear to display three silver piercings.
Across the table, Martin’s jaw dropped.
“Cool.” Verne knelt up on his seat to get a better look. “When did you get them?”
“Over the years when I was abroad.” McFly pointed to a small hoop, “I got this one in Wales—” then, to a lightning bolt in his upper lobe, “—this one in England—” and, finally, to a cuff around the helix of his ear, “—and this was from Switzerland.”

i wanted to doodle a quick a ref sheet mostly for myself but i thought i'd share here as well! if you'd indulge me, i have some headcanons/backstory about the individual duos i'd like to share under the cut…………………………. :3 i'll also put them individually there! <3

i don't actually know what i could say here that wouldn't be already known knowledge…. erm… i'd like to think this au takes place directly after telltale keeping to that true bttf style of just being back to back nonsense. that bit with all the older marties at the end of the game? oh yeah baby. that's this. specifically the last one who gets mad at the other two for "altering his timeline one too many times" i'd say is either bad-end trilogy marty (doc never comes back for telltale and marty dedicates his life to trying to find him) or 1985A turned 2015a marty just from his grungy attire. that's all i got. maybe i'll think of more? but yeah. the duo of all time i love them so much

so for doc in this design i wanted to mesh his regular 1985/1955 attire to really drive in that "this is lone pine doc that KNOWS something has gone wrong" kind of feel. god that makes me cry real tears…..
i'd like to imagine his estate fire still happens; he still tries to make the delorean but is way too late. i'd also like to believe biff put him in the mad-house because he is probably the only wide-eyed scientist in the town and doc is probably very HEY GUYS SOMETHINGS WRONG. SOMETHINGS GONE VERY VERY WRONG. I SWEAR. GUYS. (shoutout to @hymntoody for bringing this idea up i cried about it for like 7 hours it was so beautiful you're so right /pos)
you'll notice his 1955 jacket wrapped around his waist all burnt up from the fire, and his undershirt is the 55 one. i think this doc would hold on to those items/other 1955 things to "prove" to himself that he KNOWS something's wrong. all those years of nobody believing you would probably mess your head up a little. he also still keeps marty's letter on him at all times. i'd like to say in the event bttf2 doesn't happen he breaks out of the mad house sometime after october 26th and brute-forces trying to find marty and get his help to make everything right. cue a parallel between regular marty and citizen brown but 1985A doc and 1985A marty. oh my heart.
the saddest part about these two i don't think they'd ever meet. doc probably tries. he tries his best. after marty never shows up to his workshop he goes and tries to find him himself. but for obvious reasons he's never been able to get a hold of the poor kid and then whoops in the mad house you go old man
perhaps in a timeline where bttf2 just doesn't happen / marty fails doc breaks out and teams up with his marty to make things right or if you wanna be angsty get revenge
okay you thought 1985a was long hold onto ur flux capacitors
so a bit of background first! citizen marty/evil martin as i like to call him originally came from an AU idea where doc is the one who makes it to citizen valley and has to enlist citizen marty's help in getting home. the reason i call him evil marty is not just because he is regular marty's direct opposite but i think those traits are taken to the absolute EXTREME
we all know how devoted martin is to being recognized by citizen brown. i think he's very goal-oriented, cold and absolutely a perfectionist. (note: this is also why i think martin dropped the guitar. he wasn't good at it straight away. god. sorry. crying in the other room i'll be back) essentially turning marty's introverted nature and focus on his music into energy that is devoted into nothing but work. martin's version of citizen's brown motive to sabotage regular marty in setting everything right is his and citizen brown's success
like think about it. martin has accomplished so much at such a young age. imagine telling him that his true self is meant to be this slacker punky teenager who sits around playing guitar and hanging out with doc all day? that last part might sound nice, but what does marty have to rely on? that lack of control is what i think scares martin. martin has a future engraved in stone. marty's hasn't been written. (making myself cry AIUGH........) additionally doc's only """successful""" (i am sure he has had more) invention is the time machine and he's not that famous(?) ; all of regular doc's stories sound like headaches to deal with anyways
citizen brown from what i gathered from the games is only really vaguely familiar with martin. he does that whole monologue when marty walks in for the first time but he could have just gotten that off a paper or something who knows
again accounting for the fact marty doesn't come back and fix everything i think citizen and martin eventually meet. perhaps when martin's graduated from college. unfortunately i don't think they'd ever bond like doc and marty. it's strictly professional. i also think edna wouldn't like martin either. there's just something about him that doesn't sit right with her
anyways holy yap sorry about that...... uhm.... i'll write more later maybe...... if people want…. i have so many ideas for this au :3

While these guys are gonna try and kill each other 90% of the time, they are all still Marty, and I think there's some good bonding opportunities for that other 10%
A surprise little snippet from the prologue of Untitled Martymania fic in honor of me reaching a 5k word count:
“Hey, Doc,” he said, randomly playing with some left out junk, “do you ever think about the other you’s out there?”
“You’ll have to be more specific, Marty.”
“Like, do the other versions of ourselves even exist anymore? If they’re erased from existence when the timeline changes, are they gone forever?”
“Perhaps not entirely. Those alternate timelines may not be reality here, but they may exist elsewhere. There could be a universe, existing parallel to ours, where I fell in love with Edna Strickland and turned Hill Valley into a totalitarian state from causes that weren’t from your intervention in the past. Perhaps, in this hypothetical timeline, a butterfly in 1931 flapped its wings in a different direction, leading to a chain of events that fated our paths to cross when they originally didn’t in this timeline. Then, those alternate versions of you and I would exist there. Granted, it wouldn’t be completely identical to the timeline you encountered, given the slight discrepancies, but I’d imagine the differences would be negligible.”
“So, you’re saying it’s possible that those other me’s are alive somewhere else?”
“If you believe there are infinitely many universes, anything is possible.”
