Every day it was just a chore to get out of bed, the world seeming so big and overwhelming. He tried every day to focus on something, falling down the rabbit hole of his work. He barely noticed that he was almost always alone in the house, barely registering that Scully had left excluding the hole that felt like was lodged in his chest. He hadn’t noticed that Ann had left, and who she brought back.
He glanced back, very little emotion in his eyes as he turned back to his work. “I have to stop the end of the world, Diana.” His words were soft, exhaustion seeping into his voice, but he knew he wouldn’t be able to sleep. He hadn’t gotten a full night’s sleep in a very long time.
it was all she could do to refrain from rolling her eyes. she knew it wouldn’t help. he was consistent, she’d give him that. ❝ NO, FOX. you need to get some rest. ❞ truth be told, it broke her heart to see him like this. despite their differences, diana had known there was something special between him and scully. she kept him balanced, and now that she was gone, his compass was COMPLETELY out of whack. diana was no scully, not even close, but she would do all she could to help him, for ann.
she placed her hands firmly on his shoulders and spun him back towards her. ❝ the world isn’t going to END in the next hour or two is it ? then you are going to go lay down and nap. and when you get up, you’re going to take a SHOWER. i’ll order some takeout and you’ll eat it. and you’ll stop scaring our daughter half to death, got it ? ❞
