So hi! The name is Foyle! Or you can call me D.M. or Dez if you prefer, doesn't really matter to me lol.
As far as writing goes- I've been doing this for a hot minute (sent my first query letter at 15 f'in years old what pluck i had as a child lol), and among my works I can include:
A high fantasy novel
An Urban Fantasy YA Novel Based on Them Thar Greek Gods
And a few other Urban Fantasy Style Novels (because they are fun sue me)
However, more recently I've stepped into a space where sci-fi, hacking, technology, and crime/psychological-thriller all intersect.

Raz knows two things, computers - and that people can't be trusted. However on the run, and with the head of the Russian mob seeking to put her back in a cage Raz must quickly decide if Emet Shultz of the FBI can be trusted, and if he can help her unlock the treacherous secrets of her past. As the past reveals itself, one thing becomes clear- nothing is as it seems, and sometimes lies are easier to stomach than the truth.

Four months.
It had only taken four months, and one persistently annoying FBI agent to completely turn Raz's world upside down.
And now- with the secret of her missing memory finally unraveled, and the events of last year behind her, she should be moving forward.
But with Kit still missing- and the time to save her rapidly diminishing, will the attempt to save her force Raz back into the same tangled web of lies and deceit that she had spent her whole life trying to escape?
In a world where trust is a liability, can Raz believe that the people around her are who they say they are? Or will the forces conspiring against her leave her trapped between two inevitable, but impossible choices.

i think as a writer, the older you get and the more you read, the more you realize there are very few actual truly bad ideas. which is a relief. but! the other thing you learn is that stories live and die on the execution and ha ha. lemme tell you. unfortunately. there are lots and lots of bad ways to execute an otherwise fine idea

Hello, everybody! This is an introduction post, so you can get to know me and what I write!
I technically have had a Substack for a little while, but I never knew what to do with it. Now, I have a game plan! I hope you'll join me over there! It's going to be fun!
Let the art begin!!!!!! Initially, I was using Picrews to help me get an idea of what these characters would look like (and I still have more of those to share, so stay tuned!); however, now that my book cover's done for the finale of my trilogy (Changing Waters), I want to start making these myself.
The plan is to do a redo of the Picrews and pair that with a profile view. After that, I'll do a full physical drawing. Depending on the characters, I'll show them doing something together. This is the first time that character appearances have actually intrigued me, so...yeah, the aspiring artist in me is going to use this as an excuse to practice and the author in me is going to use this as an excuse to yap about this new project. I hope you enjoy!
Some extra details about Egon, a main character in my October 2028 Rumpel Story:
Imps have some base set of skills like teleporting, growing wings, communicating with animals, and even using simple spells. They also each have their own unique spells that ONLY they can use. By this, I mean each individual imp. If someone else thought of it first, you can't do it. One of Egon's unique spells is creating gold out of very non-gold items. He does this while singing a little song. This isn't his only song-related spell either. He also has a special lullaby that lulls people to a deep sleep.
As a bonus, Egon is the very proud adopted poppa of the FMC of this story. She's his best friend too and he absolutely might rest upon the top of her head when he's feeling clingy. He also pranks her mercilessly when they aren't in super dangerous situations.

Magic Level: Moderate (it's enough to let him grow as big as mountains)
Strength Level: High (Mandawuy has incredible strength and would be an impossible opponent for anyone to take on without significant magic).
Other Skills: Mandawuy, like most Chinny-kiniks, has an extremely strong sense of smell. It can track scents continents away.
Family: He has a clan of Chinny-kiniks he goes around with.
Fun Fact: Mandawuy is actually the leader is that clan. He leads with an iron fist, but he's brought them a lot of food (people).

Magic Level: Above average (Komi can shapeshift and can compel humans. While drinking blood, it's done in the form of a firefly.)
Strength Level: Average (without any magic, Komi wouldn't be able to fight well, but he could hold his own briefly, depending on the opponent).
Other Skills: Komi, like other Adze, can turn humans into witches. This is done when an Adze possesses someone, causing physiological changes that can become permanent if part of the Adze's soul isn't removed from the victim's body. The only safe way to keep a witch who was turned is to Select them (something I'll discuss in a later post!)
Family: N/A
Fun Fact: Komi goes around with another Dweller, Obia, a beast-like creature that helps find food for him.
