"Oh, I think I'll stay an extra hour. Or two." She was supposed to leave half an hour ago, which is why she can feel the confused eyes of the nurses on her. Thing is, she's on top of her charts work too, so Mel has been actively offering help with minor tasks - it would be irresponsible to keep working cases after doing a full shift, but she can definitely go get utensils or offer Santos her help with charts, right? She smiles awkwardly at dr. Langdon, knowing she can't just say that and not explain. But the truth had spilled out as soon as she had opened her mouth to speak, and there she was. "Becca is with her boyfriend. I don't... I don't have anything to do," she shrugs, trying to pass it as a nonchalant gesture. It really feels pathetic, though. "I'm not ready to go to bed. I don't require much sleep, I'd be awake too early. If you are leaving, though, I could do a follow-up on your patients?"

If you asked Frank, he'd certainly not been hanging around the ER because Mel was still here. That would be weird, and a blur of their professional boundaries. Obviously. Yet here he was, hovering by the desk and pretending to check his charts for a final time, even with his backpack slung over his shoulder.

It was obvious she was stalling as much as he was, if the funny looks from the night shift nurses was anything to go by. Frank shakes his head, denying her request. "That's what the night shift is for. C'mon Mel, we both know the hospital won't pay you for being here and you gotta have a break between shifts."

He abandons the fake-charting with a sigh, moving closer to the blonde. "If you don't want to go home, that's fine. I get it," it wasn't like Frank was looking forward to going back to the shitty apartment he'd been renting the past few months. "Why don't we find something to do? Grab some dinner, go for a walk, something like that?" His voice is gentle, lowered so the nurses hopefully couldn't overhear and spread gossip.

What a pair, they are. If their attending could see them now - well, Ogilvie would get a pass because he's a student, but he'd make her want to hide in the bathroom again.

He does pull a little chuckle out of her when he offers to call it a team effort, "He's my second one today. Patient I lost, I mean. I'm on a streak. Make it 70-30. Actually, seventy percent for me, maybe ten for you and... twenty percent Mr. Green's responsibility because he didn't tell us he had a four-centimeter abdominal aortic aneurysm a year and a half ago. So we should also blame the lack of computers." Bargaining with him how much blame they should take is exactly the kind of thing that would have two doctors chatting and surviving a situation like this. It gets too dark if you don't try to talk around it.

How does she do it? She's so close to quitting, she's not sure she's allowed to answer. Not that she'd ever really do that, the hospital is her life. "Well... we have computers that give us the patients' history," she deadpans, because really, Ogilvie wouldn't be out here if screens had been available. "So there isn't this much chaos, with some exceptions... and... I guess... most of the time I remind myself that even if it feels like it, it's not my fault. Sometimes a patient can't be saved. And when it's my fault... I cry." She glances at him, because that is the honest answer, "And then I also remind myself that humans make mistakes and that... for every patient I lose, many more survive, and I go back to work. Not everyone can do what we do, and we are saving people... and we cannot be perfect, so we just have to try our best. Plus, I'm an exception, most doctors don't take it as hard as I do. It's why people are trying to send me to geriatrics or other less... dramatic fields."

"It's like we're having a blame party now." Anyone who overheard them likely wouldn't approve, especially not someone like Robby, but it was a sense of relief to share out the blame. "Although I'd argue that the computer system being down was more at fault than you. It kinda messed up the whole shift, something was bound to go wrong." It had simply added more stress to an already chaotic holiday weekend.

All in all, the day was just pretty cursed. The holiday, the cyber attack, the waterpark accident. All of it would've been hard with screens and had become overwhelmingly difficult without. As much as today had made him want to turn tail and forget an ER rotation altogether, Ogilvie knew that it was unfair to judge it all on one day. An outlier.

The blond watches her for a few heartbeats, letting Samira's words sink in. He'd already covered the crying bases, so that must account for something. Dealing with emotional turmoil or whatever. "Why ship yourself off to something like geriatrics?" His nose wrinkles – old people were far from his favourite patients, and as good as Samira was with people, geriatrics would be a constant slow crawl.

Ogilvie glances around, makes sure the ambulance bay was still blissfully empty, before he opens his mouth once more. "Listen, I know I've only been here for a day, but from what I've seen you belong here. At least you're good with the patients, that's... not an easy feat. Screw what anyone else says – you're good at this, don't throw it away because people have shit to say." He'd already messed up enough patient interactions himself, not thinking before making comments or coming across the wrong way. Samira had a way with people, it was a natural gift when you worked exclusively with other people.

Terra is a little startled by that answer, if only because she's never been around a non-'supe' who wasn't in some way visibly afraid of her. But there is also the fact that he's there, helping in a fight with Homelander, which she has had time to learn about, even if only a little, from tv and what other people said. "... you are so brave," she blurts out in surprise, "Being here without powers... Have you ever had to face one of us before?"

She thinks she should say something else, but she's not sure how to phrase it yet - something about how she won't hurt him, in case he's just hiding that he's afraid of her. But the popcorn start popping in the microwave and she jumps back, glancing at Hughie because he didn't seem to be worried. She did everything Frenchie told her to do to make a bowl like on tv. "Is this normal? The... the exploding?"

"Brave?" Hughie watches her in near disbelief. Not many people would call him brave, especially not around here. Dumb and stubborn and most likely reckless, sure, but brave? Hughie had never felt so terrified in his life, nor so numb. God, he'd practically been drowning in it ever since Butcher had walked into the tech store and turned his life upside down.

"I.. thank you – and yeah, the list is uh.. slowly growing these days." He admits, putting his phone aside to give Terra his full attention. Just in time, too, since the popcorn decides to make itself known and he would've hated to miss her bewildered reaction. Priceless.

Hughie has to hold back laughter at the expression on Terra's face, but it doesn't stop his amused grin. "That's totally normal, I promise. I bet you can't guess why they call it pop-corn," he jokes playfully, gesturing towards the microwave. "What are you making it for? Planning on watching something?"

She hasn't been there long, hiding from her own captors the same way Kimiko and the others were hiding from 'supes'. Because they found files about her, that said she could use radiation and perhaps even be a danger to their worst enemy, the scary man with the beard has allowed her to stay, even if she has already said she didn't want to kill anyone. "So..." Terra starts, when she finally finds the courage to talk, waiting for her popcorn to be ready, and she's almost sure his name is Petit Hughie, "What... what powers do you have?"

It seemed their strange little team was steadily growing. Kimiko and Frenchie had shown up with the blonde in tow, giving a vague explanation about what exactly she was doing there, and with some reluctance Butcher had agreed to let her stay. He didn't say it out loud, but Hughie was sure that the older man was particularly interested in having a radiation using supe on their side.

Terra seemed nice though, radiation aside. Especially since she had expressed an opposition to killing, something fairly rare within 'the boys.' Hell, even Hughie was starting to grow immune to it.

Hughie glances up from his phone when Terra speaks, checking to make sure she's actually addressing him. "Oh, uh..." he rubs his neck, sheepish. "I don't actually have any powers. I'm just a regular guy who got caught up in a... messy situation."
