[ He’s woken up, after a small nap, and stares out the window- the snow has died down, and means its a perfect time for him to leave. No need to keep bothering Helios, after all- he’s just a guest here. He shrugs his jacket and scarf on, bundling up, and sets out into the outside forest- heading back to the void. ]
why are you disguising yourself? planning on doing some sneaky beaky stuff?
θ Oh- because...? I want to be able to be a bit more confident that one of my Dad's wont find me. I just... need some time, you know?
[ ... Disguise made. It took him SO long to code, especially on his phone, but he feels much more at ease with it. He toggles a button on his phone, and the disguise fizzles on. He quickly snaps a picture. ]
θ There... I don’t look so young like this! It’s kind of weird, though.. it works, I guess?
θ ... Mmhh. Maybe... I should make a disguise. Just in case.
Probably maybe! depends on if we're allowed to? *The anon attempts to poof a pair of glasses onto the nearest table*
θ Wow! That’s so cool??
θ Thanks! I appreciate it.
Hello glasses egg child! or non glasses egg child now i guess, do you need new glasses?
θ Oh- hey! Yeah, uh..,θ That’d be nice. My glasses got broke, so- oddly enough, my visions improved a bit with my left eye gone?
θ Still kind of blurred, but its definitely an improvement. I’d almost forgot that I need them!
[ He pauses, puzzled for a moment... he’s never interacted with grey faces before, though he’s heard Of them... ]
θ .. Y-You guys can do that?
[ USER:PROMISE is open for interaction. ]
[ It’s been a few days, now. More than a few days, even... it’s hard to keep track of time in a place like the void. With Helios help, he’s.. managed well enough, and the battle he had with the shard left him mostly unfazed- save for the eye. It hasn’t even left a scar. In the meantime, he’s settled down in the small cabin. Helios has invited him to stay as long as he likes, on a couple conditions- keep the room itself clean, and once every so often, head out to the building where the fragment stays- its a small walk from the cabin, on top of a hill- a strange monastery-like building that’s been repurposed into a home for its sole occupant. .. After a while, he decides to take a risk. He’s been bored and misses.. well, talking with people that aren’t Helios, though he makes for nice company, and opens his phone. ]
❂ Well, my friend- you’re welcome to stay as long as you like. You don’t need to leave right away if you’re just sorting yourself out, right?
[ Promise nods. He might as well stay... if only for a few days. Where’s the harm in it, after all? Helios seems... trustworthy enough. ]
θ ... Right. I don’t see why not?
❂ You’re still injured, anyways. How does your eye feel?
θ My... Eye?
[ He raises his hand to the bandage over his left eye, his eyebrows furrowing. He barely even noticed the bandages there- he did get hit in the face in that fight. ]
θ Huh. You know, it doesn’t really hurt at all-?
❂ That’s a good thing! I’ve been using my magic on you while you were asleep- it helps mend, though it doesn’t heal on its own. Think of it as an antibiotic.
❂ Perhaps you should take the bandages off? It should be fully healed, by now, but... I can’t make any promises about your vision.
[ Promises nods, and Helios stands, approaching him slowly to help him remove the bandages. Promise’s bows his head forward to let him get at it, and slowly he feels them fall away.
He blinks, then closes his right eye fully, looking around; its dark. Not fully dark, but it’s bad enough. He can only see bright lights with it. ]
θ Well. Uh. That’s kind of jarring? But, I kind of expect something like this, so-?
❂ You’re taking this well, for someone who lost an eye.
θ Could have been worse? Like an arm? Or a leg? Or both. That would suck,
[ ... Helios chuckles. ]
❂ You are correct. That would suck.
[ They’ve been at it for a while now, just sitting and talking. The strange fragment seems.. trustworthy enough. Snow has begun to fall outside the small cottage, drifting lazily in the low light. Promise sits on the bed, much more relaxed now, smiling ever so lightly while slumped forward with his legs crossed. His backpack sits beside him, leaning lazily against his leg.
The stranger sits back with oddly perfect posture in the wooden desk chair, hands folded in his lap with one leg crossed over the other. His head tilts occasionally as they speak. ]
❂ ... I see. If you do not mind me asking-- just what are you doing in these woods, anyway?
❂ It’s not often that I see a stranger in these parts, let alone one so- young? Not to presume, of course, looks can be misleading- but you do seem to be younger.
[ Promise smiles sheepishly- he isn’t exactly wrong, is he? On any of the parts. ]
θ Well- you’re right, I am pretty young? ‘N as for what I was doing out here-
θ I...
[ He pauses, thinking carefully about his words. He doesn’t want this person trying to be... a guardian. He had three of those. He doesn’t want to deal with it anymore. It’s not like he’s helpless, anyways-! He fended off that creature just fine.
.. If getting just a teensy bit hurt is fine. ]
θ I left home. It was just that time, you know? Everyone’s gotta leave the metaphorical nest at some point, right-??
[ ... Ah. ]
θ I’m sorry. I don’t think I ever got your name-?
❂ .. Of course. I should have introduced myself sooner, I suppose. I am Helios. It is good to meet you- it’s easy to get caught up in the flow of things, yes?
θ It is. You can call me... Sol.
[ That isn’t his name, of course... but he doesn’t want to risk anybody knowing of him. This is his chance at a new, fresh start. ]
[ He places a hand on the knob of the door to open it when the knob turns. He takes a cautious step back.
Beyond the door, a fragment stares in at him, blinking for a moment before a wide grin spreads across his face. ]
❂ I’m glad to see that-! But-
❂ Are you already leaving?
[ Promise seems to be a little taken aback at that, glancing down at the bowl in his hand. It’s not hard to put two and two together; this man had been caring for him. ]
θ ... Sorry, I didn’t realize--!
θ Um. [ It’d be rude to just leave, wouldn’t it? Promise steps back into the room and heads back over to the bed, setting his backpack back on it. Might as well stay for a little bit... ]
[ The boy sighs and shifts his legs over the bed, leaning back to stretch- he feels so stiff and bleary; He takes a cautious glance around the room. It’s relatively empty, save for a small desk in the corner with an unlit candle on it, and the bed he’s currently sitting on. The candle has had a lot of use- only a small bit of wax remains in the tray- with an old-looking wooden chair neatly pushed in. There’s a door on the far corner of the room, near to the desk. His bookbag is sitting idly in the empty corner- at least it wasn’t just thrown there. It doesn’t seem to have been rummaged through...
Promise stands up, his body reeling slightly after being still for what he can only assume was a long time, and makes his way over to the bag. He opens it to find the sweater he had been wearing before, with the tears from the encounter with that beast patched up. Promise lifts his arms and pulls it over his head. He looks towards the door. Better get a move on. ]
----
[ The first thing he notices is a throbbing pain in the upper left side of his skull- and then a chill running down his spine. He takes a deep breath and opens his eyes. It takes a minute for them to adjust to the darkness of the room, and he sits up all too fast for his body to adjust to. He reels forward, the pain intensifying as he brings his hand up to his face, only to find- cloth? No.. it’s a bandage. His head swirls- it hurts too much to think, right now. He leans back slightly, holding the weight of his torso up on his arms, and blearily takes a look around the barren room- he can’t quite see anything aside from the window behind him, and his bag at the base of the bed.
There’s snow outside. How long has he been out? He can’t tell.
He leans down and fumbles with his bag, pulling his phone out of it. ]
[ Promise closes his eyes shut as the creature lowers its maw towards his face, feeling the hot breath against his skin. He feels something.. click, inside of him- and a pillar of bright light explodes up and out- he opens his eyes just in time to see it impale the creature on top of him. He feels the weight of it disappears as the creature falls into dust, blanketing the poor boy. Promise quickly sits up and backs into the log behind him; eyes wide and scared. He feels.. dizzy. Sick. The adrenaline of the fight slowly drains from him, leaving the boy a shaking mess as blood drains down the left side of his face. He blacks out. ]
[ Promise rolls over, pain stinging at the left side of his face. He raises a hand and presses his fingers against where it hurts- pulling away to see blood staining them.
He glances to the side for only a moment; despite his now blurry vision, he can see what remains of his glasses there, shattered from the creatures’ strike.
A shadow shifts and looms over him, catching his attention- he stares up into the maw of the beast that attacked him. His eyes meet the creatures and he feels fear well inside of him- he shouldn’t of left home, should he? He should have just stayed put-
No.
Now is not the time for doubt, as the creature leans down, its teeth only inches away from Promise’s face. The beast sets its clawed hand on his chest, pressing hard enough to knock the breath out of his body.
Promise’s eyes squeeze shut, one part from pain and the other from fear- he can’t go out like this. Not like this. He has so much he needs to do. ]
