so, did I ever tell you guys about the time my roommate accidentally simulated gender dysphoria in VR?
too bad, i’m posting it anyway
My roommate is a cis man who sometimes makes lady characters in video games because why not? So when he started a new VR game and made a lady character, he didn’t think anything of it.
But then he heard the NPCs talking about him with fem pronouns. He got miss/ma’am’d - and indeed, milady’d. This had never bothered him in non-VR games, but in VR it’s much easier to feel like you are actually in the room. They’re not talking about the avatar you control; they’re talking about you. They’re looking at you.
Then he happened across a mirror. He saw his pretty lady character instead of his internal picture of what his body looks like. He moved and saw his avatar’s body move in sync.
And it was so unsettling that he started over with a new character. He asked if that was what dysphoria was like. I told him “yeah, that’s def in the ballpark” and he was floored, like, “HOLY SHIT, how does anyone deal?”
And sometimes I wish I could shove people into a VR headset and give them that experience.
also yes, of course I tried the game with a male character. I went straight for the mirror and it sounds silly but I was honestly awe-stricken and almost cried. Yet another “yep, definitely trans” moment.
does anyone hve any sin recommendations i just fell from the garden of eden five seconds ago
Sodomy
Sodomy
This is probably the last post I'll make on this subject for awhile, but I am begging on my hands and knees for people to understand that male privilege is a form of privilege that is systemically afforded to cisgender (I would even go so far as to say cisgender perisex) men by virtue of the fact that they are the kind of man Patriarchal standards deem as the default/ideal type of man.
There is no demographic of transgender people that is systemically granted benefits from that system because that system it is explicitly not designed for us.
Individuals can absolutely benefit from systems that are not designed to benefit them, but then in this instance, that applies across all trans identity not just to trans men.
There is, realistically, no external social difference between a completely stealth trans man, a completely closeted trans woman, and a completely closeted/stealth masculine nonbinary person.
All of those hypothetical people may be treated as though they were cis men and they may be granted certain benefits because of that - but they are not cis men. If they are outed or come out, those benefits can be (and usually are) revoked and in the worse case scenario the individual in question is met with violence and direct harm regardless of where their trans identity falls on the spectrum of gender.
This should be a point of solidarity not division but some you are so interested in creating Patriarchy But Trans™️ you can't see far enough past your own noses to internalize the idea that we have more in common than we do that divides us.
We're all doing gender wrong under cis/peri/hetero Patriarchy, even when we're treated like we're doing it "right" which is why the systems need to be questioned and dismantled in the first place.
"physical" effects from "mental" disorders aren't just a side effect of the condition. they are an inherent part of the condition, and they have real rammifications for things like your heart or gut health, for your sleep and metabolic system, for everything in your body. your brain and nerves are all part of your body. the fatigue matters. the high blood pressure matters. the fainting matters. the lack of, or excessive, appetite matters.
all of it matters, all of it disables you, and all of it needs recognition and caring to. don't let weird gatekeeping online or ableism from society at large stop you from being kind to yourself. be disabled, be neurodivergent, be crippled, be a spoonie, and do it unashamedly. all chronic illnesses and neurological conditions matter. you got this and i'm with you.
sincerely, a disabled person whose "mental" conditions cripple them as much as their "physical" ones.
they can amputate at once!
The line between butch and transmasc can be blurry. The line between transmasc and trans man can be blurry. That’s how queerness works; gender and presentation are complicated and a homophobe or transphobe isn’t going to treat any of them much better just because they clarify which one they are.
depression tips™
shower. not a bath, a shower. use water as hot or cold as u like. u dont even need to wash. just get in under the water and let it run over you for a while. sit on the floor if you gotta.
moisturize everything. use whatever lotion u like. unscented? dollar store lotion? fancy ass 48 hour lotion that makes u smell like a field of wildflowers? use whatever you want, and use it all over.
put on clean, comfortable clothes.
put on ur favorite underwear. cute black lacy panties? those ridiculous boxers u bought last christmas with candy cane hearts on the butt? put em on.
drink cold water. use ice. if u want, add some mint or lemon for an extra boost.
clean something. doesn’t have to be anything big. organize one drawer of ur desk. wash five dirty dishes. do a load of laundry. scrub the bathroom sink.
blast music. listen to something upbeat and dancey and loud, something that’s got lots of energy. sing to it, dance to it, even if you suck at both.
make food. don’t just grab a granola bar to munch. take the time and make food. even if it’s ramen. add something special to it, like a hard boiled egg or some veggies. prepare food, it tastes way better, and you’ll feel like you accomplished something.
make something. write a short story or a poem, draw a picture, color a picture, fold origami, crochet or knit, sculpt something out of clay, anything artistic. even if you don’t think you’re good at it.
go outside. take a walk. sit in the grass. look at the clouds. smell flowers. put your hands in the dirt and feel the soil against your skin.
call someone. call a loved one, a friend, a family member, call a chat service if you have no one else to call. talk to a stranger on the street. have a conversation and listen to someone’s voice. if you can’t, text or email or whatever, just have some social interaction with another person. even if you don’t say much, listen to them.
cuddle your pets if you have them/can cuddle them. take pictures of them. talk to them. tell them how u feel, about your favorite movie, a new game coming out.
Circulating. Seasonal depression is creeping around now.
Lets keep this moving

the point of my masculinity and male positivity posts are to underline that masculinity and manhood are seen as a threat or in direct opposition to queerness, and that often times in order to be seen as queer you have to be partially or wholly feminine or gender neutral, or express your manhood in a feminine or gender neutral way in order to no longer be threatening, invasive, or a problem.
it is very difficult to exist in queer spaces as a hyper masculine person & a man. you're made to feel like you need to walk a tight rope feeling like you're inherently out of place, as if you existing and being masculine or a man in queer spaces makes others uncomfortable inherently.. just know that when i make positivity posts it is to remind us all that masculinity/manhood and queerness are not opposites and that you do not have to be a feminine man or masc person to be viewed/seen/heard as queer.
chasing men, masculine people, and masculinity out of queer spaces isn't helping anyone currently and won't help anyone down the line. please accept masc enbies, butches, bears, and masculine trans men with the same kindness, love, and passion that you do neutral and feminine people. that's the point when i make these kinds of posts. thank u
