I find it interesting how people cannot grasp the concept that Snape's Worst Memory is biased, not the memory itself, but the fact that we are seeing Snape's Worst Memory. The version of the Marauders and Lily we are seeing is from Snape's perspective.

If we were to see James from a memory of Remus's, it would be of the boy who when finding out that his friend is a werewolf [a group of people constantly demonized, feared, and discriminated against], decided to become an illegal animagus just to make things easier for him.

If we saw him from Sirius's perspective, it would be the best friend/surrogate brother that took him in after he ran away from home. The boy that welcomed him with open arms despite the terrible family he came from.

Were they bullies? Yeah, at fifteen. People grow up and change from their fifteen year old selves. It's not rocket science.
