I did the Gemsona HQ monthly gem challenge! Fordite is really cool and I’ve been wanting to make a character out of it for a while so this was a good excuse!

She’s a former Crystal Gem that managed to escape corruption somehow, and just sorta started hanging out with humans. She’s kinda like a hipster/greaser type of gal, because Fordite is car paint and the greasers in Grease liked cars, right? mostly it’s just cause the style looks cool

I did two because designing from silhouettes is fun and also because I couldn’t decide which one I wanted to do more..

Smithsonite looked kind of like a teacher/librarian type of character to me for some reason, so she probably collects and holds important information for the diamonds. Smithsonite is also named after the guy who founded the Smithsonian Institution, which is fun.

Blue Amber looked pretty pearl-ish, so I wanted to make her another ‘not technically a gem’ gem, since I didn’t think a pearl would just be hanging out on her own in front of Blue Diamond. I’m not really sure about her personality other than she definitely thinks she’s more important than she actually is because she’s ~rare~

Here’s my gem for @gemsonaresources‘ prompt event! My prompt was from @lava-fire-opal-info

So, this is Pumpkin Quartz! The traits I got in my prompt were: Messy hair, octagon faceted gem, Yellow Diamond soldier clothing, very serious, and not talkative.

Her weapons are these little grenade things:

The black ones are smoke bombs, the yellow ones are sort of like flashbangs, and the orange ones just plain old blow up

She has the ability to grow plants (guess what kind), and her eyes and mouth can emit light (like a jack o’lantern because pumpkin). She doesn’t use her plant powers though, because that’s a Rose Quartz Power and could easily get her shattered. That makes her feel Bad and Wrong, so she’s super focused on doing her job absolutely perfectly. She’s definitely a huge perfectionist.

She basically hasn’t done anything but be A Good Quartz her entire life. Since she’s so intense about that and only that, she doesn’t really have any friends, which makes her focus even more on soldiering, which makes her even more loner-ish. It’s a vicious cycle type of thing.

Here’s Peridot and Green Zircon’s fusion, Uranocircite! With bonus excessively bright UV light palette. I wanted to do a gem I hadn’t seen before, so weird radioactive rock it is!

Considering who she’s made of, she’s surprisingly chill. I think this describes her pretty well:

Here they are, Grape Agate’s children, who she loves even though they both think she’s weird and unnecessarily affectionate

Blue Fluorite’s gem formed wrong, so her body is kind of unstable and she can’t properly form limbs without using up a ton of energy. Crocoite is really spindly and gets poofed super easily, like if they trip and fall too hard, they’re out for the next couple days

They’re both basically obnoxious teenagers

Grape Agate!

This is probably one of my favorite gems, so I felt like I had to make a character out of it. I’m thinking she was around during the rebellion and wanted to join the Crystal Gems, but just never got the chance or was too afraid to.

She secretly helps out defective gems and either hides them or comes up with some reason to keep them around.
