Not a a big fan for the re blogging scene. But i just had to re blog this.
Meet my new instrument of torture, eh i mean my new foam roller. Had a bit of an amateurish shot with it last night and i have to say that i am properly impressed with the outcome already. Hopefully its bye bye IT Band pain from now on.

I need to re focus on my short term goals to get me back in the groove. So i have come up with the following for this coming week. Lochearnhead To Killin Run/Hike
The last time i walked this route was when i quit the cigarettes about 4 years back. Still suffering from the effects of smoking 40 a day. I huffed and puffed my way up Glen Ogle and after taking a wrong turn in Ahcarn Forest huffed and puffed my way around that for a few extra miles. This time i was planning on hike/run it and not take that wrong turn in the forest. To start the actual route you have to haul yourself up about 400ft of hillside to get onto a disused railway line. I forgot how steep this climb was and was soon out of breath and feeling quite warm. But i made it to top of the climb without stopping.
From there it is a case of following the old railway line up over the Glen Ogle Viaduct and then its onto the cycle path to the beautiful town of Killin.
I enjoyed typical Scottish weather throughout my run. Beautiful sunshine, hail, rain and snow. Basically 4 seasons in one day. It was also my first time running with a backpack on and carrying a water bottle. I had set myself an easy target of 15 min miles including the slog up the initial hill so i was really chuffed to see that i had achieved 14 min miles. The next time i will set myself a target of 14 min miles and see how it goes.
Up until now i had been trying to increase my runs by 10%. But for past few weeks i had stopped at the 5K mark and was focusing on my speed rather than my distance. In all fairness my 5K time had come down but looking back i personally feel that i should be focusing on the length of time i am continuously running.
Doing the maths i reckoned that i needed to run 3.42 miles this week. So when i passed that and still felt like i had a bit energy left i thought i would push on and see if i could make 4 miles. The final slog back up Oriel Rd was a bit slower.
The feeling of completing my first 4 mile run was really motivating and i was really happy to have found my running mojo again. As it had been sadly lacking in the past couple of weeks.
