The Real Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin
In 1915 a black bear, rescued by a cavalry vet and named Winnipeg, was transported from Canada to live in London Zoo. Due to her gentleness she became the favourite attraction of many, including a little boy named Christopher Robin Milne. Christopher liked Winnipeg so much he was inspired to change the name of his own teddy bear to Winnie, and his father, in turn, was inspired to write Winnie-the-Pooh.
You can see the entire collection of characters from Winnie-the-Pooh in their original soft toy form here.
