I was watching Master & Commander with someone who hadn't seen it before and they asked if Aubrey and Maturin had as much husbands energy in the books, and I had to pull up this quote from Post Captain where Diana Villiers straight-up goes "You two are married."

I might be in love with Diana Villiers and I see why Stephen Maturin fell for her.

I’d let that woman misuse me in whatever way she pleased.

People often say that Master and Commander and Post Captain feel different than the others but I kind of love them for that. M&C was O’Brian figuring things out and Post Captain’s shoregoing plot is definitely different.

I’m rereading it for the first time and I keep picking up new things to enjoy in it.

I can’t believe I forgot about Admiral Haddock. Bit character who only exists to explain things to the Williamses but that name makes everything about him funny (If we ever get an adaptation I think Russell Crowe should play him) and then there’s Midshipman Babbington, a child half the age of Diana Villiers, a woman near 30, who drinks a double or triple shot of straight rum in front of her, proceeds to be God’s drunkest driver, and trying to flirt with her the whole time, while Diana is at first mad about it and then is nice about it.
