With a dull and monotone straightforwardness, the younger eye'd his brother with unbridled apathy, impassiveness, and a dare say, coolness. Yet, not with as much disinterest as he appeared to have upon his visage. "Why did you do that," he asked straight with emotionless succinctness, "What the hell?" Whether his older brother was up to his games again, or, up to something else was yet to be determined.

   His eyes, usually so inviting and warm for their cold color, pierced Orgrim’s gold like ICE. Durotan held no sympathy, not this time. There was a TIREDNESS in his demeanor; Orgrim may have noticed it, but Durotan himself seemed to pay little mind to it.

   “Don’t have the gall to act surprised when I tell you you’re out of line, Orgrim. You’re my brother, and I love you as I have hardly loved ANYTHING else, but at the end of the day, I am still your chieftain.” He turned away, staring at the light dusting of frost on the grass beneath his boots before SLAMMING Sever into a nearby tree stump- the wood splintered painfully, nearly decimating it. The force behind the axe had been unnecessary; it spoke, perhaps, MORE than his words could.

   Scarred arms folded over his chest as he spoke, his voice as chilly as the air around them. “If you’re going to question my AUTHORITY, do it in private. Not when I am addressing the clan. You are smarter than that, and you saw how it worked out for Nokrar. Just... DON’T.”

   Without even bothering to retrieve his father’s axe, he started off toward the treeline, calling tersely over his shoulder, “If Draka asks, I’m going hunting.”

frostwolf clan headcanon: 1/???

this headcanon is more on the physical and appearance-related aspect of Frostwolf Clan culture. i could go into this for years, man.

For starters, they don’t all run around half-naked like blizz tends to depict them, at least not while they’re in Frostfire or Alterac. In the summer and maybe spring, perhaps, but in the colder months they layer up accordingly with leather, animal pelts, cloaks, warm boots, the whole nine yards. Their garb isn’t usually excessively decorated or colorful, as that dictates a higher level of authority like the chieftain or the farseer, but most of the orcs are adorned in various trinkets taken from hunts and battles over the course of their lives. Young orcs have less trinkets, typically, and older ones have more- however, those with more trinkets tend to be more respected in society and their say has more weight, typically. Face paint is reserved for special occasions, such as war or ceremonial purposes.

Their hair is almost always long, and braided. Frostwolves scorn shaved heads, because without hair, there is nothing to protect an orc’s scalp from the cold. Many regard it as a foolish decision, although this does not stop a select few who wish to go shaved, like Orgrim. Most wear it long and woven into intricate braids of varying sizes and styles, although they are kept very simple for the most part; on special occasions, Frostwolves may weave things like feathers, bones, colorful wooden beads, and colored bands into their braids. An orc’s braids may also determine their social standing. The chieftain’s hair will often be much more decorated or intricate than that of a common hunter, so on and so forth. Beards are encouraged as well, and are also braided. Hair is also rarely cut. Most Frostwolves only cut their hair and/or beard when it becomes a liability to them while hunting or fighting.

Tattoos are relatively common, and many of them vaguely resemble Inuit tattoos.

Clothing type differs with role. Shaman tend to wear less clothing and their garb is usually lighter, while hunters carry heavier leather armor, and warriors wear the heaviest armor (which is usually a variant of leather and occasionally plate). Women and men are usually dressed similarly. Children are dressed in the clothes their parents make for them from cloth, hide, and fur; younger siblings will usually receive hand-me-downs from their older siblings if applicable.

Weaponry is usually very decorated; Frostwolves fight with primarily spears and one-handed axes, although some warriors do train in heavier weapons such as battle axes and maces. Weapons are commonly adorned with feathers, colored strips of cloth, bits of animal fur or hide, intricate carvings, and animal bones/teeth. The longer a weapon has been in use or in a family line, the more it will be decorated. The weapons of the orcs higher up on the ladder like the chieftain or the farseer have typically been in the family for many generations and are thus very well decorated.
