CAPCOM shareholders approve the possibility of a take over
Today CAPCOM announced in a press release they would not be renewing their hostile takeover defense. This means that if a person or company decides they want to purchase enough of CAPCOM stock they can effectively control the company. This type of hostile takeover probably won't happen but if it does it could be the best thing for the company.
CAPCOM has had a difficult time connecting with it's fans lately. Their headline franchises, like Resident Evil, have been under performing and dealing with trouble finding their identity. They canceled multiple Mega Man games and have left fans wondering if we will ever see the Blue Bomber again. There are spending money on new IP like Remember Me which sold very few units. It seems like CAPCOM needs some help and perhaps a buyout, perhaps by Nintendo, Microsoft, or Sony, could be just the thing to focus the company and get them back to being the CAPCOM we know and love.
What do you think? Would you like to see CAPCOM in the owned by another company like Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft?
What Now For Twitch?
Most anyone involved in gaming right now is probably aware of the possible acquisition of Twitch.tv by Google. Some of us are giddy and excited about the possibilities this could bring to the Twitch community. Some people- maybe not so much excited. So what might we see from this possible change? Will Google make Twitch users gaming celebrities? Or will Google burn it to the ground? Let's think rationally for a second....
There are problems that Twitch has right now that could be fixed by having a large company behind it. First, as a streamer, it can be difficult to moniter your chatroom. You don't have any notification when new people enter, or when people leave. The number of people viewing channel is not in real time and so you may not be aware someone is even watching until a while after they've started. Overall, the user interface is poor and makes it difficult to find information and view updated and live information, chats, and views. So what can Google do about any of this, or any of the other probems Twitch has that I didn't get into? Let's look at Youtube. It's live streams update constantly. As a broadcaster, you know how many people are watching you and the interface is much more user friendly. I can only imagine that a mix of Google's brilliant minds and the already successful Twitch would make for a great team of innovators ready and willing to throw their passion for gaming in full gear to make a streaming experience that is enjoyable for both players and viewers.
Let's look at yet another possibility of this transaction: Everyone knows someone(or is someone) who can name all the stats of every football player on "Y" team from 1950 to present day. If you think about it, sports junkies are just as big of nerds as gamers are. They are just more widely accepted because sports have been around for so much longer than gaming has, and there are so many events that people are involved and connected with that they enjoy watching events. Imagine now, if you will, a world where game streams are what people get excited about and are knowledgeable about and talk to their friends about. Going and watching a live stream of a tournament or marathon will be just as normal as going to watch a basketball game with friends. So maybe this is down the road a little, but do you get an idea of what Twitch could potentially do for the gaming industry and gamers? Google buying them could greatly influence the efficiency of Twitch and how people use it. Google could very well get them to the next step where gamers can be more social with each other. This, to me, is a great opportunity for gamers.
So let's look now at what Google could potentially do to ruin Twitch for everyone. Could they require you have a Google+ account to sign in, and make it link with everything else you have that is Google? Yes, they could. Is that really a con? No. Not really. It isn't like everyone has at least three different accounts they have to log into on a daily basis, whether it be for email, Youtube, Twitch, Twitter, or anything else. If it really bothers you to sign in all the time, just check the box saying "stay signed in to this computer"(come on Google, make sure there's one of those!) and that's that. Just like any other account you'll have to sign into, or keep signed in to. You'll get over it, trust me. What about copyright issues? Well, if Google doesn't want to deal with copyright laws on gaming, they probably shouldn't be considering acquiring a program meant for users to constantly be streaming games.
If there's one thing I've learned about gamers and the gaming industry, it's that they are heard. Gamers are one group of people in the world that get what they want. Developers listen, companies like Microsoft and Sony listen, and, quite honestly, if Google doesn't listen, they are in for a rude awakening from some of the passionate people on the planet. I honestly can't see Google spending a billion dollars on Twitch, and not improving it and making it a better experience for people. I am hopeful that this goes through and Google is able to help make Twitch even better by getting a group to help polish it up and file the edges to really help streaming become even easier for users.
Google's not dumb enough to burn Twitch to the ground....right?
10 games I am super excited for after E3
E3 is coming to a close tonight. Everyone is packing up there booths and getting ready to get back to work on the amazing games they showed. Here is a list of 10 games that I can't wait to play that they showed off at E3 2014
10. Rainbow Six: Siege
When I was in middle school I was in a computer club. This computer club got to choose games that we could order and play on the computers after school. My choice was Rainbow 6. It was way over my head and I died constantly but it was a lot of fun. The tactical action that you get from the Rainbow Six franchise is awesome and this game seems to be focusing on that. Blasting though walls and breaching floors to get just the right shot on your target looks like a blast! I can't wait to team up and take out some bad guys!
9. The Division
The trailer for The Division at Ubisoft's Conference was heart wrenching. This world looks bleak and it's up to me and some friends to save the day! I hope that this games is filled with emotion and gives you something to fight for. Playing with friends and helping make the world a safer place is my plan when I join The Division!
8. The Legend of Zelda
The Legend of Zelda is a game that I am super excited for! Riding Epona though a beautifully crafter, wide open, high definition world is going to be sick! What they showed was amazing, there just wasn't very much of it. This game will be much higher on the list next year but I am sure we will be seeing this game again at next E3.
7. Forza Horizon 2
I am a fan of the open world racing games. I remember playing Project Gotham Racing on the Xbox. I would put on my own playlist and just drive around the city streets. Now, with the enhancements in technology since then, I am able to travel entire countries and experience beautiful vistas, fast cars and even amazing weather! I can't wait to peel out through the streets of Europe!
6. No Man's Sky
A game with infinite exploration ability. A game where every player starts off in a different world. A game that could be as vast as the galaxy itself! The only worry I have about this game is what exactly do you do. The game play trailer got me excited though. I can't wait to see more and I am excited to explore strange news worlds and perhaps they will be places that no one has ever seen before!
5. Evolve
Evolve is a 4-vs-1 player action/shooter and it looks like SO much fun! I can see that huge sense of accomplishment you would get from taking down the monster as the 4 hunters. You all have to work together for a common goal. I also can see the sense of power you will get when you make it to your third evloution as the monster and you take the fight to the hunters. I didn't know much about this game before E3 but, now that I have seen it, I just want to play!
4. Splatoon
Splatoon was a nice little suprise from Nintendo. After watching the chaotic 4 vs 4 ink battles this looks like I will be spending a lot of hours throwing paint at the walls. The game play looks solid. Turning into a squid to swim through your own ink with ease or to hide and wait for unsuspecting victims. This looks like great family fun and I can't wait!
3. Grim Fandango
I never had a chance to experience this Tim Schafer classic and I always wanted to have that chance. Now I can! Remastering and bringing back these classic games is wonderful! I get a chance to relive old memories or experience classics for the very first time! I have heard such good things about this game and I love Tim's other works. I can't wait to play!
2. Ori and the Blind Forest
I can't get enough of this game! The art style is just gorgeous! Learning that they are designing the game play after games like Super Metroid and Castlevania quickly made this a must play for me! The fact that it is releasing this fall just gets me that much more excited because that means I don't have to wait much longer before I can dive into the world of Ori.
1.Uncharted 4 A Thief's End
Okay, maybe I am a little bias but I have been having adventures with Nathan Drake since the beginning and it seems like every new journey is an amazing one! The fact that this could be the last time that Naughty Dog develops an Uncharted also gets me excited! I know what great work they have done in the past and they are going to want to end their portion of Drakes story on a high note... Or maybe they will kill Drake off which will probably have me crying. No matter what happens to Nathan Drake I am super excited to join him in his quest!
There were so many more games that I couldn't put on this list! This was a great E3 for gamers!
I want to give a special thank you to all the developers, publishers and everyone else involved in the gaming industry! You guys always put on an amazing show! Thank you for your hard work!
Which games did you see at E3 that you are excited to play?
Why The Legend of Zelda is a huge deal for the Wii U
At the Nintendo Digital Event, Nintendo announced a new Legend of Zelda game. This is very important to Nintendo for a couple of reasons and could, along with Nintendo's other announcements, make the Wii U a must buy this holiday season.
First, lets discuss the quality of Zelda games. If previous metacritic ratings are of any use whatsoever, I can pretty much guarantee that this game will receive a 90 out of 100 more likely 95 out of 100. All of the previous home console versions of Zelda since a link to the past have received a 90 or above from metacritic.com. Nintendo is obviously very passinate about this franchise and strive for and achieve near perfection with every new iteration. This is great news for gamers because they know they can count of quality from the Zelda franchise.
Next, It will be released in the middle of Nintendo's console cycle. The Wii U was released November 2012. Generally speaking Nintendo has a 5-6 year life cycle of their systems. The Legend of Zelda will be released (hopefully) in 2015, putting it right smack in the middle of the life cycle. Historically Zelda games that were released in the beginning or middle of the life cycle do better than those released right near the end. This was especially prominent with Skyward Sword only selling 3.69 millions units vs Twilight Princess which sold 6.8 million. Both of these games appeared on the Wii. Skyward Sword was at the end of the cycle while Twilight Princess was at the beginning.
Finally, It will be the first Legend of Zelda in High Definition and it will take your breath away!
I am a Zelda fan and I can't begin to tell you how excited I am for this game. It might now send the Wii U flying off the shelf but when you start listing the new and upcoming Wii U games (Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros. Bayonetta 2, Yoshi's Woolly World, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Star Fox, and Splatoon... to name a few) you can't help but wonder if now might be a great time to get a Wii U.
If you didn't get a chance to see the trailer for The Legend of Zelda here it is.
What do you think? Are you getting a Wii U this holiday? What games are you most excited for?
Reasons I Want an Xbox One Now After E3 2014
I have always loved PlayStation. They do a great job with their games and consoles, and know how to promote indie developers. This E3, however, got me excited about what Phil and the gang are doing over at Xbox.
The Xbox One had a rough start. I was completely uninterested in the console and disagreed with the way Microsoft introduced their next gen. Finally, they've given those of us who doubted them, reason to consider their newest console. By announcing nothing but games this E3, Microsoft showed that they care about the consumers who spend the most time on their devices. The gamers ate it up. Here are the announced exclusives that are good enough that, by golly, I may just have to consider purchasing the Xbox One.
1. Ori and the Blind Forest(also coming to PC, but for the sake of console wars, we will discuss it being an upper hand for the Xbox One). This game looks amazing. The graphics are stunning. Gameplay resembles that of a Metroidvania style, which will allow for hours of exploration and challenges to access abilities, which will lead you into new parts of the world. After watching some of the gameplay for this title, there is no doubt that this is a must have if you own an Xbox One, and is absolutely good enough for me to go out and buy right now.
2. Forza Horizons 2- Forza is a beautiful showcase of exotic cars that I will probably never lay eyes on in real life. This open world racer gives you the ability to race areas of Europe that are visually stunning. Weather will play a part in your lazy Sunday drive, as the game will allow for rain or shine randomly through your sessions. Imagine, also, driving through a quaint town in Southern Europe at sunset, and watching as the city comes to life with lights and the stars above you. Forza Horizons 2 has day/night cycles to give you this experience. I love exotic cars and cannot wait to get my hands on this game, if anything, to run a Lamborghini Huracan into some trees from my lack of racing skills.
3. Halo: The Master Chief Collection- I have never been a die hard Halo fan. I've dabbled a bit, but haven't had the experiences so many other Xbox owners have had with this franchise. I was excited to hear them announce this collection to us, as it allows an opportunity for those of us who missed out to get in on such an iconic experience. We now have the opportunity to own all 4 games and play to our hearts desire, all for the price of one game. Those of you that had played multiplayer in this franchise will be please to know that this feature will again be available for all gamers. So those of you who have been mourning since 2010 when they shut down the Halo 2 servers, you can finally rejoice, start shooting your friends again, and get polished up for the newer games in the collection.
I am hoping that Microsoft will give me plenty more reasons to look into getting an Xbox One. They are on the right path and I'm already considering the console, especially with the price drop. Great job Microsoft! Keep on bringing the games and you'll have some happy campers this holiday season and through the life of the Xbox One!
Any games you're excited about from E3 for Xbox? Anything you absolutely cannot live without?!?
I can't get enough of this game! In the trailer you can feel the heart and the passion that has been poured into it. The game is going to be a metroidvania style game which is one of my favorite genres. The art style is beautiful, the music is moving, and the game play looks solid. I can't wait to play this game this fall. It is releasing for Xbox One and PC. Now excuse me while I watch the trailer again :)
Pac-Man officially announced for Smash Bros.
I love seeing new exclusive IP on Nintendo platforms. This is Splatoon and looks very fun!

Nintendo Digital Event Grade
Nintendo had their digital event today (6/10). They did this again instead of holding a live Press Conference. This year it was hosted by YouTube and it didn't have the same stuttering issues that were present last year. The introduction, done in Robot Chicken style claymation, was unique but a little dry. The fight between Reggie and Iwata was cheesy and kind of fun, but too drawn out. We have come to expect this now from Nintendo.
Next came the game announcements. They showed off a good number of games all of which are exclusively for the Wii U. As far as I can tell they have more big exclusives coming to the Wii U in 2014 and 2015 then the other 2 gaming consoles. With huge announcements and previews like The Legend of Zelda, Bayonetta 2, Yoshi, Kirby, Smash Bros,Mario Maker, a new IP called Splatoon, and what looks to be a new Star Fox, they have a little bit of something for everyone. I was disappointed not to see a new Metroid, of course, and another Mario Galaxy game would be nice, but that's the thing about Nintendo- they have so many franchises to get excited about that there is no way they could have a new iteration announced each year. Every game announced has the unique yet familiar quality that can only come from Nintendo. I am not sure why they are holding back information about some of the games for later in the day and hopefully none of their "special announcements" will have to do with the Wii fit trainer. The Wii U struggles are not over, but the game library that is being released in the next year and a half is vast and definitely exciting for those who own the system.
Grade: A-
Will it be compelling enough for those who haven't bought the Wii U to take the plunge? We will have to see, but the future looks bright for Nintendo loving Wii U owners. What announcement are you most excited about? Does this compel you to purchase a Wii U?
