“Tangle of Thorns” // Olivia Daouphars

This is a set of screen prints for a project called crossing borders. The assignment was to design a composition that visually created a horizontal line, while also playing off of the conceptual idea of crossing borders or boundaries.

I had just recently read Lolita and wanted to create a composition that aligned with the reader’s perspective of Humbert’s character. Throughout the novel, Humbert paints his story as one of love and lust, and despite the reader’s overwhelming feeling of disgust, they see glimpses of beauty in his story. I decided to mimic that contrast with my composition.
