Chopin - Nocturne op.62 no.2 in E Major

So the other day I had a melody stuck in my head. I knew that it was by Chopin without a doubt, but I couldn’t remember what piece. I searched through several works of different genre, trying to find it again. Didn’t help. Then I went onto Musipedia to find it, no luck there. I ended up jumping ten second intervals through a two hour long video of his complete nocturnes [b/c I had a hunch it was from one of the nocturnes] and finally found it! At the end, of course. It was the melody of the B section of this nocturne, which I’ll get into. It opens up with a lovely melody in the right hand and a pattern of harmony in the left, and when the melody repeats it is decorated with light piano flourishes. Typical Chopin nocturne so far, even with this high opus number. The counter melody in a bridge section is in the same shape as the opening but is now taking us into a different key, resolving back to the first melody only with added flourishes. And then yet another direction, the interest is heightened by the unpredictability of the road. And then the left hand plays a more important part, playing its own melody [that again feels like it’s for solo cello], and then we are taken into the B section that holds the earworm melody I’d been looking for [at 2:25], a short folksy dance that’s a jagged contrast to the first section. Then we come back to the opening, lightly modified, and a repeat of the “cello” section as I call it, but instead of resolving into the anxious folk tune, we drift off peacefully into the light.
