JONATHAN CHERRY: What did you want to be growing up?
FREDRIK HOLMÉR: The first thing that I can remember is that I wanted to be a musician.
JC: Who or what is inspiring you at the moment?
FH: I think that Marina Richter is a fantastic artist, her work really hits me sometimes. I just thought to myself the other day that I should probably email her and tell her that. Another artist who’s work I really like is Viktor Fordell. When it comes to established artist I’m really into JH Engström and Wolfgang Tillmans at the moment. Other then that I’m very influenced by music.
JC: What are you up to right now?
FH: I just finished studying photography for two years and now how a job that doesn’t involve photography at all. It feels quiet good to not think at all eight hours a day, you know when your just doing something that flows. I’m also planning to use the office printer to make a B&W zine called People & Trees.
JC: Have you had mentors along the way?
FH: The teachers in school have been my mentors. It’s been really good for me to be able to show my work and get a honest opinion about it.
JC: Where are you based right now and how is it shaping you?
FH: I live in Stockholm, Sweden and at the moment it’s a perfect place for me, I’ve always wanted to live in a bigger city so in the future I might be based somewhere else in the world. But it has to be in a big city. I like to discover new things so that I don’t get bored.
JC: One piece of advice to photography graduates?
FH: Don’t take yourself to seriously.
JC: Is it important to you to be a part of a creative community?
FH: Well, if you’re on the internet then you’re part of a creative community, aren’t you? I like to look at pictures and discover new things and internet is a perfect place for just that. I think that it’s easier to develop if you’re able to get direct or indirect feedback from others.
