As I write a really long research paper on Tom & Huck this illustration kind of stuck out that I never noticed before.

It’s subtitled “Tom’s Proudest Moment” but if you look–Tom is directing all his attention to a sad Huck Finn.

Tom’s Proudest Moment is when he directs the glory away from himself.

“Aunt Polly, it ain’t fair. Somebody’s got to be glad to see Huck.”
