Day 1 I made a record player
I don't subscribe to any religion, but I'm not jaded enough that I don't believe in the power of prayer. All voices lift up at 11am EST, 10 CST, 9 MST, 8 PST IF YOU STAND WITH STANDING ROCK. Put aside your petty beliefs about "my god" or "their gods." Whatever helps you navigate your life and reconcile why the world is the way it is, is your choice. All people of faith need to gather as one and show the power of LOVE.
Heed the sistas word even if it's 50 years later. And we have way more options for styling "old" clothes today. Make used clothing a financial, political, environmental and social decision!

People use amazing to describe the most regular stuff. Vik Muniz is truly amazing. I stand in awe of everything he does. I literally get chills.
I just want to give my girl a big proud shout out for having accomplished so much with this unit. If you knew where we were last year, to compare it with the stamina and focus she has built this year, you would know this is not to brag, but give thanks. That big old stack is her list of new vocabulary words from the book Journey to the Center of the Earth. The pile on the left are words she mastered. There are a lot of words, so I am only expecting mastery of about 50% of them. The rest, are simply about exposure. Root words are a key in my book, so we stay up on those. This book rocked by the way-clearly we got a lot of vocabulary, but we were also able to do geography, plenty of earth science, and a little math when it came to converting fathoms and leagues and such. She thoroughly enjoyed reading it and we had a million laughs watching the old movie. Next read : Jungle Book. #unitstudies #thisiswhathomeschoolinglookslike #whathomeschoolinglookslike

How to kill 4 drones with one stone. End of the week makes game day. Vocabulary review, dictionary skills, assessment and fun. (Why drones? A wise woman told me we should never kill birds and speak with intention!)
Happy 10th Birthday to my highly entertaining, empathetic, loving, adorable, and creative budding scientist! She knows just how to make me smile no matter WHAT! She can get me out a funk or herself out of trouble in 1 second! Give thanks for the day she came into my life!

A good read indeed. Thank you, Penny!
On Religion
Some of my favorite favorite people are of the religious persuasion (from Christian to Hindu). If you're reading this-you know who you are-so this is to all of you. Many of the Abrahamic persuasion will say they don't have religion-but a relationship with God-yet follow a book revealed through men and distinguish or define or separate God from their selves, which kinda defines religion, not just customs and ritual. Religious people often are the best people, these are people who want to live right, and do the right thing. I like religion in that it gives people something to live by, an order, a way of life, but it is this same quality that makes me dislike it. Bad people use it as a tool for their own wishes, while others follow these wishes because they are limited by it. I often avoid the conversation because if I were to go there with many of my loved ones, it would end ugly. If we were to just get into the history of a religion, let alone me tell how I reallllllly feel about these books, these men that wrote them, these men that established orders of evil based off it, we might not speak like we used to, you might not look at me the same anymore, your church or book might even require you to dismiss me. And, like I said, you might be a favorite-so I would never want to lose you. But what I notice today mostly amongst my Abrahamic religious loved ones is this feeling of persecution. I saw so many of you profess your allegiance to Jesus in recent weeks because the propaganda machine is telling us that children are being indoctrinated by Islam if they are in any way exposed to it in school and ISIL is putting out videos cutting heads off. These feelings are driven by fear and they motivate loathing. At the same time, Muslims feel persecuted, and this in turn motivates loathing. Fear and loathing are key components to divide and conquer. Divide and conquer has been the most effective weapon against mankind for centuries. Be mindful of this over everything else.
Goals are cool, but here's to living in the now.
