“But what about you? Who do you say I am?”
Those words wake Gordon up. The words repeat through his head like a mantra. When he opens his eyes, the bright lights that once illuminated the corridor are now either completely off or dimmed, which is nice because if they were any brighter Gordon’s headache might change into a migraine. Gordon rubs his eyes as his eyes adjust to see in the dark. A voice cuts through the silence.
Are you okay, Mr. Freeman?
The more Gordon starts to wake up the more things he realizes, like how Benrey is gone or the fact that Tommy’s eyes are illuminating the room with a cyan colored light, or that his head is on Tommy’s shoulder.
Gordon’s eyes slowly blink open, darting around to assess the situation. He takes in every detail, from the dimmed lights to the soft cyan glow from Tommy’s eyes, to his head on Tommy’s shoulder…
Gordon could jump to his feet if he wasn’t sore all over. He glances around the room, almost startled by the scenario he had been placed in. From one corner to the other, back to the first corner–
Gordon’s eyes squint, barely believing what he sees. There is no way Benrey could’ve gotten to that corner in the time he looked across the room.
Rise and Shine, Sleepy head
Benrey speaks condescendingly, tilting his head with a shit eating grin cracking his face. He bends down to level his eyes with Gordon, blinking unevenly. Something about this is very, very wrong; Gordon could tell it.
Trying to scooch back, Gordon’s back is plastered against the wall. Yet Tommy is close enough to him that even though unease washed over him, he feels safe and comforted.
Benrey chuckles. He steps back, allowing Gordon some breathing room. Gordon exhales, almost a sigh of relief.
Is that a laugh of assholery or do you have a sense of humor now?
Gordon raises an eyebrow, watching Benrey shrug before he slithers back into his corner, an evil look in his eyes, which were cast in a dark shadow.
So, where’re you guys headed?
Tommy stands up, causing Gordon to shift to leaning on the wall.
Who the hell knows, Tommy.
Benrey casts Tommy a shifty look, squinting.
Then we should probably get going!
Tommy coolatta has now entered the confessional
