This user wants to rip off her hijab and start a new life away from her sexist family
ex muslim: having religion forced upon me from birth and having to live secretly as an ex muslim so i donât get abused and disowned by my family is really difficult, causing me a lot of pain, destroying my life and taking away my freedom. the way ex muslims are treated is not okay and we need to talk about this because it needs to stop
tumblr muslims and sjwâs: islamophobia!!!! stop making islam look bad!!! islamophobia!!!!!!! but christians are bad too!!! islamophobia!!! just leave and get abused no one cares!!!!! islamophobia!!! muslims are oppressed so you canât be since you left!!! islamophobia!!!
How to be a toxic parent starter pack
Imagine being able to decide for yourself if you want to follow a religion or not and if you do want to follow a religion, imagine having the ability to choose that for yourself..
Such a simple thing right?Â
99% of ex muslims canât do this without living in fear of being abused, disowned or murdered.
Iâm so sick of this âreligion of peaceâ bullshit.
Sunni Muslims need to stop calling MENA minorities and MENA Ex-Muslims/atheists âislamophobicâ for adressing their persecution and their negatively personal experiences theyâve experience/d as a group. We are not in a position to have power over you and thus our âislamophobiaâ would have no meaning without this kind of power. Adressing our persecution is not islamophobia. Talking about our experiences and rightfully feeling uncomfortable is not islamophobia.

2:223: Women are menâs fields:Â âYour wives are a place of sowing of seed for you.â
4:3: Multiple wives: ââŠmarry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four.â 1 2 3 4

2:282: Two women witnesses equal one man witness because women make errors: ââŠAnd bring to witness two witnesses from among your men. On hijab and islamic veils
Hijab is celebrated as a symbol of empowerement for liberal feminism. And one question comes to mind: Why? Some answers I have gathered are:
âIt is about the choiceâ
Yeah thatâs nice that you can have a say in it sweetie but not everyone has that choice? There are muslim women whose families donât want them wearing hijab because they want to look âmodernâ, there are muslim women who donât want to wear it but are forced to, and there are questioning/nonbeliever women who are forced to wear it. Some of this pressure is created by society and some of it by actual laws, whether you want to wear it [x x x] or not [x x].Â
Some mulism women DO have a choice, and they speak over the ones oppressed by their families, societies or countries. Some women are KILLED or faced with death threats for not wearing a piece of cloth on their heads [x x x]. Is it really âfeminismâ to speak over the oppressed people just because you are not oppressed? I guess you can say it for liberal feminism since thatâs all they do. Going after everyone who tells you that it isnât always a choice isnât feminism, especially if those people are exmuslim women.
You can argue that these people/countries are extremists. That doesnât make these womenâs suffering any less important. A gay guy can be loved by his family and friends. Just because an individual have good experiences means we have to stop the prides and scream how not-oppressed gay people are? The thing here is that choice is not given to women, the âchoicesâ are there to control women and individual experiences are nothing compared to the big picture. Males use hijab as a way of power over females and just because some women have okay experiences does not give them the right to be ignorant towards females who suffer.
Hijab is also COMPULSORY for islam. Different translations are made to make it seem like it is a choice, however most islamic sources will agree that it is mandatory for a woman to cover her awrah. There are debates surrounding where awrah is for women but most scholars describe it as a womanâs entire body except her hands and face. I have asked whether hijab is mandatory or not to many different religious teachers and imams and they either directly said yes or gave open answers but still supported that I should wear it. Just because you cherry pick doesnât mean it isnât there. IT ISNâT A CHOICE IN THE FIRST PLACE, HOW IS THIS EMPOWERING?
And it wonât be empowering until not wearing it is a choice everywhere.
âIt desexualizes meâ /Â âPeople look into my personality this wayâ
But what about children? Prepubescent girls? Iâve seen girls as young as 6 wear full niqab. What does a 6 year old girl need to desexualize? Why does she need others to look into her personality instead of her looks? Does no one realize how creepy it is to make/encourage children to wear articles of clothing that are supposed to help not making men horny?Â
Even if you say those children âconsentedâ(because every little girl wants clothing limiting them), why do women need to desexualize themselves when the one that was sexualizing them are strictly men in the first place? How can it be a womanâs responsibility to make men look into her personality rather than her looks? Why is letting men see women as sexual objects and women going out of their way to cover themselves so theyâd be respected as human being feminist?
It isnât empowering or feminist to cater to males and accept them as horny beings and cover yourself for safety.
âIâm not a whore/Modesty/Other sexist statementsâ
Some women have so much internalized misogyny. Iâm not going to refute them as it is blatant why thinking women who donât wear the hijab are whores/sluts [x] or thinking hijab=modesty [x x] are both extremely misogynistic. It dehumanizes women who wonât wear it and the concept of modesty lowers the worth of other women who wonât conform to those standarts.Â
Devaluing other women isnât empowering or feminist. The very concept of modesty is anti feminist.
âIt boosts my confidenceâ
Thatâs great! But it doesnât make the meaning behind hijab any less misogynistic or it doesnât erase the fact that some women are forced to it. Your individual self-esteem doesnât make it feminist in the big picture.
âIf women are allowed to strip naked, why shouldnât they be allowed to cover up?â
Iâm not arguing this. Of course you donât have to strip naked to be a feminist. The problem isnât the clothing or your right to wear it, the problem is that the meaning behind the hijab is to desexualize females so they wonât have male gaze on them instead of telling males to stop(Iâm aware that quran tells men to lower their gaze, but that concludes their responsilibility whereas women are required to lower their gaze and be desexualized objects). Women have a right to cover themselves but womenâs bodies have the right to not be treated as a sexual objects. Treating womenâs bodies as a sexual object is shockingly not empowering.
Final statements:Â I want to clarify that I donât want to take anyoneâs right to wear any type of veil. I just argue that hijab isnât feminist and shouldnât be viewed that way. The meaning behind hijab and how some women are forced to wear it makes it impossible for it to be feminist and Iâm tired of this being ignored. I donât wish violence or unfair treatment to any hijabi women, I want women to stop ignoring these issues and stop saying that type of clothing is feminist.
If you have other reasons, I can debate them as well.
The thing I hate the most about Islam is the fear mongering. I feel so much freer now that I donât believe in god. How can you scare me about Da'jjal and judgement day when thereâs no proof and youâre not even sure? I was only 5 or 6 when I started being scared about death and judgement day. Donât indoctrinate your kids to fear some boogieman with kuffar tattooed on his head at such a young age smh.
I greatly appreciate all the devout Muslims in my life who taught me real Islam. If it werenât for people like my one of my old Quran teachers shamelessly telling me that 1 male witness is equal to 2 female witnesses because women are âconfused, emotional, and canât trust their memoriesâ, I wouldnât be the mean atheist I am today.

Ugh Muslim culture is literally the worst. There is nothing of value, nothing worth saving in that wretched mess.
Muslims believe they will be rewarded greatly if they covert someone into Islam and they will take any opportunity to make that happen including taking advantage of poor peopleâs desperation for basic needs. The video shows Muslims from Kuwait making the African girls (I donât know which country) recite the shahada. The shahada basically means that they bear witness that thereâs no god but allah, and that mohammad is his messenger.
Muslims see this as a victory and if you think theyâre done with spreading Islam then you are wrong.
âThis is just wrong in so many levels. I'm disgusted.
I was talking to this Norwegian guy who said something I found very relevant as an ex-Muslim.
I told him I was an atheist, and he was struggling to say that he still considers me to be a Muslim, because âisnât that like when a Jewish person leaves Judaism and theyâre still Jewish?â
I then explained to him that i.e. Ashkenazi Jews who leave Judaism are indeed still ETHNICALLY Jewish, but that Muslim isnât an ethnicity.
What he was really getting at, though, is that he racializes people from Muslim-majority countries as âMuslimâ. Which is, again, different than actually existing as an ethnic Jew.
As ex-Muslims living in the West, we can never truly escape Islam and Muslims due to this racialization from racist idiots.
Liberal western Muslim: Ex Muslims can leave Islam itâs their choice. They can leave whenever they want!. I donât know what theyâre problem is they are just lost, misguided, lead astray, they donât understand the religion properly! They need to leave and then just shut up no one cares about them anyway.
Ex Muslim: i was abused by my family for leaving Islam. I still havenât left because my family will abuse and disown me. Iâm worried for my emotional and physical safety. I donât agree with how ex Muslim women are treated. Here are some things in the Quran that are sexist and misogynistic and how they are causing problems and affecting us emotionally and mentally while Islamic rules are being forced upon us growing up. Here are ways we can change how we are treated. We need a reform. Hereâs why i left Islam. Iâm going to speak out about this issue that other ex Muslims continue to face because we are being denied human rights and treated like dirt for leaving Islam. I need the world to listen to the truth about how we are treated by the Muslim community and our families because it needs to change.
Liberal western Muslim: Stop bashing Islam!!! Stop being Islamophobic!!! Youâre making Islam and Muslims look really bad we already are discriminated against!! I donât care if you are marginalized too and treated worse by our community and face the same discrimination you donât matter as much because youâre not Muslim anymore so stop making Islam look bad!! Islam is perfect!! Itâs a religion of peace!!! Islam is a feminist religion that respects women!!! Blame culture!!! Stop making Islam look bad! Youâre lying!
Ex Muslim: I donât want to suffer anymore. I just want to live.Â
Liberal western Muslim: ISLAMOPHOBIC!!!!Â
If there is a god - and god is perfect (and good), then god would want me to be a good person for itâs own sake. God wouldnât be the kind of being that would punish me for not believing when there is no evidence - thatâs psychotic.
(via mahamara)
i honestly think leaving islam is harder than converting into it
You can get abused, disowned, kicked out and murdered for leaving islam but if you want to convert into it youâre welcome with open arms. Thatâs a true âreligion of peaceâ right there.
