ok let’s talk about six of crows. of the main characters alone there is:

- a physically disabled boy who suffers from severe PTSD - a dark skinned middle eastern-coded girl who was a victim of sex trafficking but escaped and vowed revenge on all sex traffickers - a bisexual-coded girl who is explicitly described as being larger and not stick-thin but is still described as beautiful, sexual, and incredibly powerful - an explicitly bisexual dark skinned POC boy who ends up in a m/m relationship - an explicitly gay boy who is looked down on by his family for severe reading and learning disabilities but who instead becomes and incredible scientist and musician - and matthias

basically please read six of crows & crooked kingdom by leigh bardugo if you want your faith in the future of YA lit restored

Adding a few things!

- two of the characters struggle with addictions, one to a substance and one to gambling!

- one character is definitely ADHD-coded and its some of the best writing of those particular struggles I’ve ever read (source: I have ADHD).

- two of the characters are/were child soldiers and have to deal with that.

- a few characters have PTSD and it manifests differently for all of them.

Overall a cast of diverse, brilliantly flawed characters who shine and whose growths and triumphs are amazing to watch. And even though they don’t always trust each other or get along, they still back each other up in regards to the things listed above. None of the heroes ever look down on the character’s learning disability, past trauma, physical disability, etc.

So I got my friend into Brooklyn Nine Nine today and Lord Above tell me how she starts the show at twelve and i lie down to take a nap and when I wake up she says “I love how open and obvious Jake is about how much he likes Amy” and i nearly had a stroke bc I’m like??? did u watch the whole first season hOW LONG WAS I ASLEEP???
