What she means: The ending of Tchaikovsy’s symphony no. 6, “Pathétique”, makes me too emotionally destroyed to put into words. The third movement ended on such a high note, it could’ve been the finale of the entire piece, but no, instead Tchaikovsky just decided to turn around and hit us with THAT. I am suffering immensely. Hearing the last notes fade into nothing actually felt like I was watching Tchaikovsky die. I am now grieving the loss of a dead Russian composer, whom I never knew and never will meet, because through this symphony h

Why Today, You're Gonna Practice

Today, you’re gonna practice. Why is that?

You are awesome. Okay, let’s get this out of the way first thing - you’re great. You’re an awesome musician. That’s why you’re going to sit down with your instrument - because you’re just that cool.

You are going to persevere. You’re going to practice because you know that it’s just, a SUPER great feeling when you do. You know that perseverance is the primary virtue a musician can have, and you have it in spades. So despite how comfy your couch or bed is, you’re gonna persevere through leaving it anyway. Plus, absence makes the heart grow fonder - your bed will feel even nicer once you come back to it!

You know tomorrow never comes. If your lazy impulses, your friends, or your family are telling you that you can practice tomorrow, you should ignore them. Tomorrow never comes, after all. You’re gonna practice today, because a long enough string of “practicing tomorrows” turns into “haven’t practiced in months” before you know it. Practice every day that it’s today.

You know past failure does not define future success. Hey, if you didn’t practice yesterday, guess what? It doesn’t matter! You didn’t practice a day in your life before you started playing your instrument, and look at how far you’ve come since then. Yesterday no longer matters - you can never change it again. However, you are in a perfect position to change today. So when you practice today, you’re defining your future success perfectly.

You’re going to make yourself do it. You’re going to practice because right now - literally, the instant you finish this post - you’re going to get up and do it. You’re going to practice right…

At the suggestion of the show’s producers, Bernstein put together a program about the genesis of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony using sketches discarded by the composer. The floor of the television studio had been painted with a huge blow-up of the first page of Beethoven’s score. Bernstein had the musicians stand on the lines of music representing their parts to illustrate, visually as well as aurally, the changing colors of Beethoven’s orchestration.

Venezuela crisis: What happened?

Venezuela is a place of astonishing natural beauty. It also possesses the largest proven oil reserves in the world. But today Venezuelans are dealing with the highest rate of inflation in the world, violent street protests and a climate of chaos.

Please, please, please pay attention to what’s going on in Venezuela right now. The government/economy is getting completely overturned, and people are being left without even basic necessities. 

If you have family there, please ask them if they need anything - anything at all. Families are lacking pretty much anything you would usually be able to buy in a grocery store. 

Don’t let Venezuela slip by unnoticed.

I can’t stress you enough about how important these exercises are for your drawing hand. You don’t wanna get CTS of Tendonitis and similar stuff that will prevent you from making art or even hold  a pencil.

Okay, this guy is my HERO. I just did these exercises as I watched the video, and already my arms and hands feel better. I have a degenerative tendon disease that prevents my muscles, tendons and ligaments from retaining their elasticity, and so anything that maintains the health of my bendy parts is important.

I URGE YOU. Even if you don’t draw, do these several times a day. Even just sitting at a computer can do serious damage. My dad, who was a rugby player, a carpenter, and now a handyman, suffered from severe carpal tunnel syndrome, simply as a result of sitting at the computer at the end of the day to play a little solitaire. Don’t let it happen to you!

Wow, these are REALLY helpful. And yes, this is not just good but IMPORTANT for more than artists — if you type a lot, play a lot of video games, do anything that requires lots of repetitive movements of your hands, wrists, and arms (gardening, sewing, factory work), these can help. Even if you don’t yet get pain these are a great preventative measure, because the damage builds up over time. Youth is no protection.

And like he says, you should feel a stretch, but don’t push it too far!

There’s really no solidly good excuse for not texting someone back. Everyone has their phone on them all the time. I don’t care who you are or what you’re doing. We all know that these days people carry a phone on them 24/7, even when exercising. So it’s obvious that you’re intentionally ignoring someone when you don’t text them back. And there’s *especially* no reason at all to not text back your significant other immediately. If you care about that person, you drop what you’re doing and answer them right away. If you don’t, then all you’re really doing is letting them know that they’re not a priority. Nothing says “I don’t care” like not getting a text back.
