it’s just that, the filipino culture as a WHOLE was diminished by the whites. nothing was left for us. not our writing system, not our language (having to be manipulated by the spanish), not even the original name of my COUNTRY was saved. and for me to say this in 2015 pisses me off bc so many ppl do not know this. that our culture was practically stripped away from us and that i cannot do anything about it and it makes me really fucking mad.

They took our art away as well. I find it harder to find Filipinx art history and that’s because colonizers find our art to be against their religion, so that was almost eradicated.

History experts. Correct me if I’m wrong. Since I learned this shit way back when I was still in elementary.

We used to have a different writing system instead of the alphabet. But then the Spanish come in and boom we’re colonized.They named our country after King Phillip II of Spain. They introduced us to a lot of stuff, improving transportation, housing and education and classified us into ranks. The intruders became the authority the natives became the oppressed. Having dark native skin was looked down upon and the rich/aristocrats were privileged with the luxuries provided by Spain. Women stayed at home while the men studied and became bread winners. At the time many Chinese and Arabs came to our country as merchants/entrepreneurs/traders that’s why some Filipinos have chinese or arabic sounding names. The Filipinos fought back against the tyranny of Spain alongside the aid of America until they won. Only to be colonized by the Americans for 40+ years. And then the Japanese soldiers swoop in and all of a sudden the Philippines became a battle ground for a war they were not involved in. That’s right folks. We were bombed. Women were raped. People died and children were orphaned. Because them nations were greedy and wanted a war but not in their respective homelands where they can wreck their own stuff. Women became sex slaves and Filipinos who resisted or were suspected of resisting were brutally massacred. Eventually the Americans overthrew the Japanese but by then so many Filipinos have lost their identity as a nation. And to this day the market advertises whitening cosmetics beacause having fairer skin is considered prettier. We have this mentality that imported stuff are better than local products and are fascinated by other cultures. Because that’s the kind of country we are that is our culture. We adapt and in doing so we have forgotten who we are. Many Filipinos travel to other countries searching for a better life because economically speaking we are stumped. We may not have much but that is what we take pride in. That it doesn’t matter if you’re pure, half, or quarter Filipino, it doesn’t matter how cultured you are. We accept you. You are one of us.

hey if ur gonna experiment with drugs

because there are a lot of idiots in my school who have no idea what they’re doing

• do a lot of research on the drug you’re gonna do • stay the FUCK away from meth and heroin, seriously • if it’s a pill, look up the identification number on it to make sure it’s the drug you think it is • do not mix hard drugs with alcohol, especially benzodiazepines (ie xanax, klonapin, valium, ativan) • don’t do it for the first time alone • if the paramedics end up getting involved, don’t lie to them, you won’t be arrested they are there to help keep you safe and alive • don’t take any drug you aren’t completely sure about taking • again, stay the fuck away from meth and heroin. •if you are injecting something, use new, sterile needles and alcohol wipes.
