Mario looks over the phone with curiosity, seemingly hesitant to accept it at first – yet, he takes it into his gloved hands and begins to look over the app interface. He knew for sure what a smartphone was, but he never quite owned one himself. They weren’t common in the Mushroom Kingdom and surrounding areas, rather, replaced with a substitute; modified versions of the Mailbox SP that had begun to spread through the mushroom marketplaces.
After a second of familiarizing himself with the app layout, Mario punches in the name ‘Wakeport’ and waits patiently as the app searches, only for it to come up with… no results. Immediately, his curious expression turned to one of concern and disappointment. It was to be expected from a phone created in what seemed to be another world, so why was he so worried?
Mario placed the phone on the counter and began to glance around rather skittishly. The Warp Pipe from which he’d emerged, just off the coast of the sea, had sunk back into the sand from whence it came, so how would he get back now?
“Mamma mia… t-this isn’t-a good…” he muttered to himself, bringing his hand up to gently grasp the side of his head. “What am I-a gonna do…?”
this guy was really going to push this to the end, huh? ( why wasn’t he surprised? some people could get real obsessive. he’d seen it, after all ) Peedee waited patiently, sighing a bit as arms crossed and he watched Mario flick though the application and his smart phone. ( It wasn’t all that hard to figure out but perhaps he was conditioned to think that way -- oh god, he sounded like his brother there! ) Quickly pushing the thoughts to the back of his head, he’s waiting again.
While Mario perused his phone, ( seriously just how long did it take to look up one place? ) Peedee went to checking the Beachwalk. Usually there were one or two people around at this hour. The arcade’s doors wide and barren, and there didn’t appear to be anyone on the beach. It took only a few moments for Peedee to realize even the bothersome sea gulls weren’t cawing above head.
The stillness in the air ... quiet. Far too quiet for comfort. Mario set down the phone and it clicked against the counter, off-setting the silence and Peedee let the odd silence fall to the back of his mind. ( He’s just imagining it. ) Picking up the phone, it’s out of curiosity that he checks the history. Wakeport. This guy couldn’t be serious could he?
❝ Hey. Uh. I could spot you some fries? ❞
It’d come out of his paycheck. He hoped the tab would land him on an odd number.
❝ You don’t look too good. ❞
