To the five wonderful people who were interested in how Thorn came about Sootball... u vu
He picked her up out of a burning building.. But first, she was like a little intruder.
It was the first ever apartment Thorn ever lived in. He was probably only 18 or 19 at the time. His uncle Bourbon helped him find and secure the place, but Thorn saved up for the deposit and his first few months of rent!!!
He was proud of it despite how run down it was, and Sootball and a few other little critters just like her, happened to have the run of the place. Like common house pests, but Thorn was slowly falling for her fluffy little charms, even if she left little black sooty paw prints all over his kitchen counters.
When he got into a spat with the landlord though, Thorn may or may not have lost his cool and burned down the entire building in the middle of a heated argument.
Sootball wasn't with him at the time and he refused to leave until he found her.
Luckily, he found her curled up and shivering in the corner of a closet, scooped her up and made a run for the fire exit.
They've been together ever since, though uncle Bourbon did try to convince Thorn to give her up, claiming that Thorn could barely take care of himself and that he had no time to be messing around with stray animals.
But Thorn refused.
I (and Thorn) call Sootball a cat but she is... certainly a type of cat, but very much a being of the void first and foremost.
That is to say, strange and hard to place.
Vet care was hard for Sootball at first because there seemed to be almost no veterinarians who could make an accurate guess as to what sort of kitty Sootball was, but finally, someone was able to identify her.
She is an Ash Sprite.
If Thorn had left her in the fire, she wouldn't have perished necessarily, but she may have turned into a little pile of ash and soot for a while! But she would have been fine in a few days, provided all her little bits were in the same place.
It is assumed she came from the basement's heater or one of the old fire places in some of the apartment suites.
Either way, she's in good hands with Thorn and is liable to live a very, very long and pampered life.
Though nobody is sure what happens to an ash sprite like Sootball when her time comes.
Some say, like a phoenix, they turn to ash and can be reborn. Other's say they simply disintegrate and that's it for them.
Only time will tell, but Thorn isn't thinking about that right now.
