31 Days of Dolloween - Day 8 (Saige’s birthday + art)

Today was a great lesson in creativity and flexibility for me, too. This photoset was not my original plan or vision for this day, but as I was getting out the supplies for a different photoshoot, I had the idea for this. I decided to follow that creative impulse and create these shots, and I’m SO happy I did. I think they turned out far better than my earlier idea would have. I love my colorful and creative girls!

Tell me why you love Eto

Because I think Eto is a very well-written character.

I like how in the beginning she was introduced as three different characters (four if we count the OEK mystery at the time).

Eto ‒ a member of Aogiri Tree that has a high rank in the organisation.

Takatsuki Sen ‒ a popular horror novelist.

The One-Eyed Owl ‒ a dangerous SSS-rate ghoul.

But the interesting thing was that… we didn’t really know much about those three characters so at the end of TG when the the One-Eyed Owl fights against the CCG, runs away after capturing Yoshimura and comes out of the kakuja, I was so surprised. This was the most mind-blowing scene for me. I mean… Takatsuki Sen is the One-Eyed Owl, she’s the one-eyed ghoul everyone is after, she’s Yoshimura’s child, she’s the leader of Aogiri. And then… when I noticed the bandages and the fact that Yoshimura calls her “Eto”… I was left speechless.

I like this. I like the fact that Ishida managed to surprise me so much. In most of the series I’ve seen/read, plot twists don’t surprise me at all because they either don’t make any sense or they simply are obvious and I figure them out before they even happen.

Also, all of this is connected to the reason why I think she’s very well-written. She didn’t just randomly appear at the end. Eto has been there since the very beginning. She’s directly connected to the protagonist and a lot of aspects of her life parallel his. Not only were her books important to him during his childhood since he could relate to them but “The Black Goat’s Egg” is basically the plot of the first part and “King Bileygr” is pretty much the plot of :re.

Her existence turned both the human and ghoul worlds upside down. She’s an ideal for ghouls who want to but can’t fight for their kind like her; there are so many people following her, so many people ready to do everything for her goal. She’s a dangerous threat for many humans, someone that has murdered hundreds of people for the sake of her plan.

Eto is intelligent, powerful and never gives up. All of her actions and the organization she leads have shaped the main character into what he is. Her role in this story has affected the plot more than anything else. Eto is a brilliantly developed antagonist. That’s why I love her. She’s just so, so interesting to watch.
