🐇"IN HER ARMS" (DAVIS X ANGIE ONESHOT)
can't believe I created this ship and still haven't wrote a oneshot of them until now... Here you go! <3
It was a lazy Sunday afternoon, probably around 2 pm. on a 30th of March.
Most students were either at the gym, out in town, or causing problems somewhere else on campus. But most students isn't all, for example and like in multiple cases, Davis White was an exception.
He was inside his room.
The curtains were half drawn, letting in the warm and soft evening light. Posters of football players and random sports junk covered the walls. A pair of running shoes sat abandoned near the door, his slingshot resting on top of missing assignments. The room smelled faintly like detergent and cheap body spray.
Davis sat on the edge of his bed, elbows on his knees, hands clasped together tightly.
His normally sharp, nasty expression was gone. Instead, he looked tense... Kinda like a coiled spring. His jaw was closed tight, his shoulders stiff, and his foot tapped nervously against the floor repeatedly.
Next to him, Angie Ng sat on the bed. They have been dating for quite a bit now, a couple of months. Not enough to openly say they love eachother, but enough for everyone to know that if they tell one something the other will know.
Her pale hands rested in her lap, fingers fiddling with the sleeve of her cardigan. It's Sunday, so, she's wearing comfy, casual clothes while her uniform washes to be ready for classes tomorrow.
Her black hair was in her usual braids, and her glasses slid down her nose slightly as she watched him.
She had been watching him for a while, actually.
Davis hadn’t said anything in nearly ten minutes, which was weird taking into account he's... Rather talkative, yeah, that's one nice way to put it.
He had tried earlier. Tried to make conversation.
He'd made a couple sarcastic comments about freshmen and something about a football match he watched on TV the other day in the boys lounging room.
But it felt off. Like he was making a titanic effort just to articulate words... Because he was.
Angie knew why.
She also knew the date.
That's why she had quietly come over after lunch without making a big deal about it.
Davis stopped talking about that football match like the mere words were hurting his tongue, and now the room was quiet again.
He rubbed his face with both hands, a bit too hard, muttering in a tired voice.
"God, this is so stupid."
Angie tilted her head a little, eyes still on him.
"What is?"
Davis scoffed.
"This."
He gestured vaguely at the room, then at himself.
Angie frowned softly at that, last gesture.
"You're not stupid."
He couldn't help but snort.
"Yeah, sure."
He leaned back slightly, staring at the floor now like it owned him 20 bucks. Which Troy owns him by the way... Yeah, he should note that down later.
"It's just a day. Who cares?."
Angie said nothing. She knew better than to argue too fast when Davis was like this, especially when it involves... Past.
Davis had told her about his cousin a few weeks ago.
Not in a dramatic way.
Not like someone sharing trauma.
More like someone angrily tossing pieces of a story on the table. Little things.
Like how his cousin used to shove him around.
Like how he'd get locked in closets.
Like how sometimes he'd be forced to eat bugs.
June bugs, to be more specific.
He'd said it like it was a joke. Because Davis always acted like everything was a joke, it's easier that way.
But Angie had seen the way his hands shook after.
And today was that cousin's birthday.
Davis leaned back on his hands now, staring up at the ceiling.
"Stupid that I still think about it."
Angie gently pushed her glasses up, almost whispering.
"It's not stupid."
He didn't answer. He didn't know what to answer.
His jaw tightened.
For a moment it looked like he might snap at her.
He didn't.
He would never, actually.
Instead, he just sighed.
"…I hate this day."
Angie nodded quietly.
"I know."
He rubbed his arm absently, a little habit he has ever since he was a kid.
"When I was like… eight or something," he muttered, "he made me eat three of those stupid bugs."
Angie's stomach twisted so hard it was painful.
Davis kept talking, staring at the ceiling like he was watching a movie only he could see.
"They taste horrible."
He made a face, trying to remember... And at the same time, trying very hard to forget.
"Crunchy."
Angie's hands clenched slightly, moving from her lap to her stomach. It's like she could feel the little bugs moving.
"He thought it was hilarious."
Davis swallowed, hard, his voice a bit shaky.
"He told me that if I cried, he'd just make me eat another one."
And with that, the room went quiet once again.
Angie moved a little closer on the bed.
Davis noticed, but didn't comment on it.
He just kept staring at the ceiling.
"…I hate him."
His voice was quieter now.
Not angry.
Just tired.
Angie reached over slowly and touched his arm. He flinched slightly at first, then he relaxed when he saw it was her.
Who else could it have been?
"You don't have to think about him tonight" she said softly.
Davis laughed weakly.
"Yeah right."
But his voice was losing its bite. No, it was already lost hours ago.
He rubbed his face again, a bit softer now.
"…Sometimes it just hits me."
She nodded, it's not like anything she could say right now could help.
Davis looked down from the ceiling at his hands.
"I hate when it happens."
His voice was smaller now.
"I feel like a kid."
Angie scooted closer on the bed now, her knee caressing his.
"That's okay."
He shook his head. Quick.
"No it's not."
"Yes it is."
He was looking at her now, really looking.
And Angie could see it happening.
The shift.
His shoulders relaxing slightly.
The anger draining away.
That defensive bully mask slowly fading, his voice came out quieter.
"…Angie."
"Yeah?"
"…Can you…"
He hesitated.
His cheeks were turning pink now.
"Can you stay?"
Angie couldn't help but smile softly.
“I’m not going anywhere.”
Davis swallowed, nodding softly as his fingers now fidgeted on his lap.
"…Can I sit with you?"
Angie immediately scooted back against the headboard of the bed, resting her back on it.
"Of course."
Davis hesitated for a second, then climbed onto the bed beside her.
Not confidently.
Not like the tough bully everyone knew.
More like a nervous kid unsure where to sit.
Angie gently opened her arms.
He looked at her.
"…You sure?"
She nodded.
Davis slowly leaned into her, his head rested against her shoulder, brown hair tickling her neck, arms wrapped loosely around her waist.
Angie wrapped her arms around him immediately, one hand resting on his back, the other gently smoothing his messy hair.
Davis sighed.
A long, shaky breath leaving his chest.
"…Thanks."
Angie smiled softly, pressing a soft kiss on top of his hair, her fingers carding through it.
Slow.
Careful.
Like she was calming a scared animal.
Davis melted against her.
His grip tightened slightly on her sweater.
"…You smell nice" he muttered quietly.
Angie giggled softly.
"Thank you."
They sat like that for a few minutes.
Just breathing.
Just quiet.
Then Davis spoke again.
His voice was softer now.
Smaller.
"…Can you talk?"
Angie blinked, looking down a bit.
"Talk?"
"Yeah."
"…About what?"
He shrugged slightly against her, not letting go.
"Anything."
Angie smiled.
She started gently playing with his hair again as she spoke.
"Well…"
"I saw a bunny today on my way to Yum Yum Market, across that little garden by the end of the street."
Davis snorted quietly.
"Of course you did."
Angie giggled once again, a bit more lively now.
"It was really cute."
"Uh huh."
"It was eating a little flower."
Davis sighed softly.
"That sounds dumb."
But his voice was relaxed now.
Angie continued softly.
"I think it was a baby bunny."
Davis’s grip on her sweater tightened slightly.
"…Did you draw it?"
Angie always draws things she sees that are cute to show him later. He will never admit it, but it's his favorite part of the day.
And he still has that drawing of a bird she gave him in his wallet, the first ever "gift" she gave him, long before they started dating.
"Not yet."
"You should."
Angie smiled against his hair.
"I will."
She kept talking quietly about random things.
About animals.
About a show she watched last night.
About a funny rumor she heard at school... Probably fake since Christy told her.
And slowly…
Davis relaxed more and more against her.
His breathing slowed, his grip softened...
At one point he mumbled sleepily, tired enough for his tough guy facade to go away,
"…You're the best."
Angie's cheeks turned pink instantly.
She kissed the top of his head again, softly.
Davis made a quiet embarrassed noise that was too adorable for someone that prides himself as the terror of freshmen.
"…Yeah."
But he didn't pull away.
Instead he buried his face against her shoulder and held her a little tighter.
And for the rest of the night, Angie stayed right there, gently playing with his hair as he slowly fell sleep in her arms.
