Happy International Women's Day!!

Here's my piece for Vol. 2 of the @hwsfemmephenomenon Hetagirls Zine! Since this year's theme was Traversing Textiles, I decided to do something a little different from my usual page art contribution: I handknitted a lace shawl with an olive branch pattern in honor of Ancient Greece! 💚

I've actually been knitting for far longer than I've been drawing (my mom and gran taught me when I was v young) and fiber arts/crafting/sewing has always been super important to me. So I was absolutely delighted to both mod and contribute to this project~ Thank you again for having me!

In honour of International Women's Day and the release of the Hws Femmenomenon Zine, I am excited to share my piece and first zine participation 💖

I've always had a soft spot for Ukraine, since she reminds me of my Ukrainian mother and all the love and support she gave me. Visiting Ukraine as a child, I associated it with warmth, family, the sea, our dacha, fresh pirozki, vareniki, and salo. It was the warmth of the city on a summer day combined with the Black Sea breeze, days on the beach, ice cream, and the stray dogs that follow you for water. As such, I wanted to use this piece to honour my Ukrainian heritage and give thanks to the women in my family that went through so much to ensure I have the privileges of today. I want to give a voice and vision to the warmth that is Ukraine.

This piece is comprised of two main parts: the portrait and the border. The portrait is based on an old photograph of my great great grandmother on my dad's side, from the Edwardian Era (see under cut). The dress and background colours are inspired by this era, as pastel walls and navy blue dresses were popular. The border is an embroidery vyshyvanka pattern from my Ukrainian family's home region, Kherson.

I feel so privileged that I got to participate in hws femmenomenon and express the love that is so needed for women today 💖 Thank you and Slava Ukraini ❤️🇺🇦

The HetaGirls are back!

Traversing Textiles is the second installation of femme☆phenomenon, a free digital anthology dedicated to the women characters in Hetalia World Stars. For International Women's day 2026, the zine followed the theme of "textiles," as the cultural clothing and textile arts of these ladies' cultures deserve a spotlight.

This zine contains 3 textile crafts, 4 fanfics, and 40 illustrations including the cover.
