"I've had my fair share of memorials and funerals. Nothing to this degree, though." The nature of death was colorful, to say the least. It was one thing when someone died from a natural disaster or a disease process. This manner, however? What did you do with it? "Did you know them well, Cass?"
"Yeah, I knew her pretty well. She was always at the diner, even late at night after one of her odd jobs. A little social butterfly, full of energy, that one. Can talk your ear off, about anythin' and everythin'." Cassie said, chuckling lightly. "I just hope... that this gets solved soon. Is it too optimistic of me to hope that this... situation will just be a one-off thing?"
Wren had found herself sitting in a vacant lawn chair on the edge of the memorial service, just watching and observing. Death was a peculiar thing. People didn't know what to do with it, so their reactions varied across the crowd. Nursing a cup of tea in her hands, she looked up at the voice of another. "You know... I don't really care to jump into the pitch-black abyss right now, but if you're inclined to, don't let me get in your way."
"Bitch, if you're gonna say shit like that, just keep it moving. You can't be all judgy with me when you're just sitting around with a cup of tea like a grandma." Rory said, rolling her eyes.
merlina knew it was unsafe to bring her child but the thought of leaving him home after what happened scared her. she knew gabby, having met from the few times her son played with her dogs at the park. so now she was praying the price of bringing him as she walked behind to keep an eye, as he was searching for a toy he swore he lost somewhere here. "oh i am sorry, i did not know you own part of this shoreline. last i checked anyone was allowed to be here." she answered sternly. "you would not be hoarding a red race car toy? the quicker i find it, then i will be out of your hair."
"does it look like i'm out here playing with race car toys?" roman asked with an exasperated expression. tonight just showed that people knew less and less on how to actually mind their own business. fuck, can't a man grieve in peace around here? "and last i checked, i didn't ask for a conversation, but since you want to come up to me and act all mighty, you should listen to me telling you that you should probably head home. what kind of mother thinks this is the right place to bring a child?"
He knew of her. with how long his family had been in town and being one of the prominent families, it was as if they knew everyone. still he walked with his cup that had some sort of refreshment that he could tell was spiked but continued drinking when he heard a voice. "you make it sound as if its the first time anyone has ever had the thought. i know of a few brave, or stupid however you see it, souls who may have done the jump when we were young." Derrick and his friends for sure were known for doing dumb things in their youth. "would you dare to take the plunge?"
"you say that as if you're that much older." rory said with a puzzled expression. "do it with me then." she challenged him.

being here and seeing all of this, it reminded the man of when he lost his own parents. he did not know her that much to be connected to her but it was still tragic. "I'm not confident in them figuring out who did it," Derrick admits with a slight frown. he could only continue drinking from his cup as he turned to the other. "sorry to sound a bit morbid just kind of sad i guess."
"You don't have to say sorry for havin' feelin's, sugar." Candy said with a small smile. "I would have been darn concerned if you didn't feel this way. It's valid. You're valid." She pointed out. "And, hey, if it helps, I'll believe for the both of us that they'll do their job and figure out who did this. How does that sound?"
She blinks. Once. Twice. Waiting for the punchline or even the smallest hint that she was joking. It never comes.
"Me? Jump off a cliff?" She repeats, brows coming up in a sort of shock that Rory Hassan is able to get out of her. "At night? Absolutely not. With my luck, I'll jump and never get found."
"Well, if you're not gonna do that kind of fun, would you at least join me in this kind of fun?" Rory asked as she took out a flask.
Alana let her eyes roll at the sound of his voice. "Malachi." She got a good look at him now, for real this time. "As if I'd trust anything you had to drink." She would never take a thing from that man. He was as Evil as they get. "Find a ditch to die in, I hear Gabby's feeling lonely."
"Haven't you heard? You're not supposed to talk like that because if you're not bawling your eyes out, the death police will tell you you don't give a shit about some fucking girl who was probably just in the wrong place at the wrong time." Mal said, rolling his eyes. "You wishing that on me isn't really something I haven't heard before, princess. Lucky for you though, I'm not going anywhere."
Riley shook her head, "I'm not even sure." She let out an exhale; she hated feeling like this, feeling defeated. "But this, this isn't right." She paused. "All these people, most who didn't give a crap about her, sharing shallow stories of a girl they didn't know. Then you add in the mix that everyone's pissed they are sober. So no. You can't tell me this is for her."
"How are you insulting this when you don't even know what could be better?" Mal asked, judgment dripping in his words. "I don't see you crying about it. Does that mean you don't give up a crap about her? Maybe being drunk is going to help them heal, ever think of that?" Mal said, making a face. "I fucked your best friend when we were both drunk and the alcohol reminded me of that one wonderful night we have together. You gonna get pissy at me for that shit too?"
"I don't believe it grew in the past year." She teased her friend lightly. "Hmm, I was thinking something along the lines of this?" Alana reached inside her shirt, pulling the blunt from between her boobs. "How's something like this?"
"And this is just one of the reasons why I love you down, bitch." Rory said, grinning excitedly as she took out the lighter from her miniskirt's back pocket. "About time someone actually did something fun here. I know someone died and all but c'mon." She said with a roll of her eyes. "You didn't buy the whole 'I love everything and everyone' act she had going on either, right?"

It was late by the time Jake rolled up to the bluffs, hot off some last-minute MC shit that had gone longer—rougher—than expected. His adrenaline still lingered. His knuckles were still split, and the dried blood that wasn't his was still catching beneath the glow of the fire light in the distance. He snagged a beer from the six-pack he'd brought and kicked a boot up to the tire of his car, leaning back against the fender as he took a long, slow pull.
"Wasn't gunna fuckin' miss it," Jake muttered, his eyes fixed over the cliff. He lifted the bottle slightly, then shrugged once, offering them nothing else. "Shit just took longer than it shoulda."
"Why, what was Gabby to you?" Rory asked, crossing her arms as she glared at Jake. "And where were you, anyway?" She sounded like a territorial ex-girlfriend, because that was exactly what she was. She hated that even with everything happening, a part of her was still looking around to see if he was around. If he was okay. The thought of caring for someone she wasn't even with made her want to barf, yet here she was. A glitch in the system, she liked to call it, because she sure as hell shouldn't care for him, or anyone, really. One she hopes she'll get over soon. "Well?" Rory impatiently asked.
Ryder was making his way through the crowd; after an event like this, appearences were everything. A girl was murdered, and that didn't sit lightly with him. She was a daughter, a friend, a sister to someone. Hearing about the gruesome murder made his stomach churn; the thought of it being his daughter cut up and scattered around, made him sick. "Hey, you." Ryder smiled softly, "Yeah, she is. She's spending the night with my mom. Mama Easton loves her gma time." He paused as he took her in, "How are you holding up?"
Immediately, Cassie felt like she could relax knowing that she was in Ryder's presence. After everything the pair had been through together, she just felt more at ease knowing he was here and he was safe, and in turn, feeling protected as well. "Of course she does." Cassie replied, with a warm smile that faded quietly at his question, only to be replaced with slightly less genuine one. "Holding down the fort. It's... it's different with her." It wasn't a shootout or sickness that got her. It was due to someone who still hadn't been found. No one knew why this happened and that made her uneasy and fearful, both of which were a stark contrast to how she usually felt whenever she was around Gabby. "I just... can't wrap my head around it. How that could happen here." Cassie admitted. "But... I also know I'd be driving myself crazy if I thought about it too much, and I don't want to have a tinfoil hat moment and hand out some crazy conspiracy theories about what happened, just for no reason. She deserves more respect than that. So... just keeping busy, I suppose. Checking on people. Making sure the people I love are okay." She said, showing him a small smile. "How are you holding up?"
Rosalie had always felt there was something of herself reflected in Gabby. Maybe it was their shared love for beautiful things, or the way they both managed to make people feel seen without even trying. Whatever it was, her death had shaken her more than she'd expected. Flowers had always been the only language that made sense whenever words failed her, so she'd spent most of the evening quietly fixing arrangements, making sure every stem sat exactly where it belonged. It wasn't just decoration to her, it was one last way of honoring her friend. She hadn't noticed Roman standing nearby until his voice broke the silence. Her hands paused for a moment before she looked up at him, brows knitting together with quiet concern. "No," she answered softly, offering him a small shake of her head. "I just came to fix these." She glanced at the flask in his hand before her attention returned to his face. "But..." she hesitated, choosing her words carefully. "You don't look like you're doing okay." A faint, sympathetic smile tugged at the corner of her lips. "You don't have to be, either." She took a small step closer. "If you want some company, I'm here."
Roman thought it was stupid, how such beautiful things were used for something so sad, but he knew people used different ways to cope. How his ex-girlfriend was coping with the death of his other ex-girlfriend really wasn't any of his business, but his gaze stayed on her for a moment, eyes taking in her face, her hair, her shoulders, the memories of the time they shared flitting through his brain at the sigh, before looking away.
"I don't think I'm good company right now." Roman admitted, taking yet another swig, the burning at the back of his throat and in his chest a welcome feeling. "Can't stay away from me, huh?" He asked, his attempt at a joke falling flat since it was so out of character, but the entire night felt out of character for him. He's not one to grieve, and if he did, he doesn't do it outwardly. Humor in general wasn't in his forte either.
" yeah, " she approaches adjacent to him, letting the silence linger in the air for a moment. " to see how you are. " but of course that seemed pretty obvious, didn't it? gabby's death was already causing a different ripple effect in all who knew her, some more visible than others then some, maybe like her where it'd hadn't fully hit yet. " you looked like you can use more company than whatever it is in that canter of yours. "
"my canter is good enough company." roman starts to say before softening just the slightest. jasmine didn't need nor did she deserve the anger he knew was misplaced. "how are you doing?"

"As good as anyone can be at this point." Cassie replied with a small smile. "It's a lot for anyone to have to deal with, so how are you holding up?"

link had never known gabby all that well. three years in grimmvale wasn’t long enough for that. but she’d been one of the first people to make the town feel like home, chatting with him while he changed her flat tire and insisting he let her buy him a coffee afterward as thanks.
now, all he could do was stare into the bonfire, hands shoved into the pockets of his jacket as the flames moved quietly in front of him. after a long moment, he let out a quiet sigh and shook his head, “kinda makes you realize how quick everything can change, huh?” he murmured, glancing toward the people gathered nearby. “guess that’s why you shouldn’t wait for a reason to tell people they matter.” link took a moment to reflect.
"oh! well, you matter, link." candy said almost immediately, her bright smile a stark contrast to the doom and gloom all around. she wasn't entirely sure if that was what link meant, but like he said, she wasn't going to wait for a reason to tell them they mattered. if anything, there was a quickness that came with the reply that could almost be comical if they were in any other situation. "but matter you might, you sure are wallowin'."
