My Oh No! Here Comes Trouble fic is finally complete! Except under the cut!
Chuying, Li Can and Dongjun don’t show up until a little later, but since Yiyong’s asleep again, they all just sit together downstairs and talk. Aunt Ye brings them all beers and no one even thinks of refusing. Everyone is talking fast and loud, and most of the conversation isn’t directly about Pu Yiyong - but every so often someone will catch someone else’s eye and they’ll all kind of laugh, shocked and relieved. At the end of the night Aunt Ye lets them back up to look at him and they all crowd around his bedside, staying quiet but barely, Chuying and Li Can now openly crying and the rest of them damp-eyed, before they disperse slowly into the evening.
He’s barely wanted to step out of this room for months; over the past year he’s slept here more nights than in his own bed, but he doesn’t quite dare to try and stay now, even without Doctor Wu’s orders. If Yiyong is sleeping, really sleeping, Guangyan might be a bother.
He doesn’t sleep much that night himself, though. It’s only now that he feels the true extent of how afraid he’s been; like carrying something heavy, thinking you can surely bear the weight a little longer, only to put it down and realize how hard your arms are trembling. It’s so easy to imagine another type of call, or the absence of any call, the stasis stretching on indefinitely; more months, years of Guangyan studying by his quiet bed, monitoring his vitals, reading and rereading the same manhua chapters, speaking to him without any response, no more cases, no more obsessions, no more anything.
In the dark he whispers out loud to his own ceiling, “Pu Yiyong! I missed you so much!” That’s what he’d wanted to tell him most, even if he couldn’t say it.
