    / / - [ merrin’s eyes flickered from her sister’s face to the weapons in her hands. they were lightsabers sure enough. she had spent enough time being hounded and manipulated by malicos, as well as being around cal to know exactly what it was. the zabrak also knew that lightsabers were only wielded by jedi. the red blade was reminiscent of malicos- so she was right, she was not what she appeared. though, something that cal once told her rang in the back of her head ‘all i do know is having a lightsaber isn’t what makes you a jedi.’ she gave a slow nod, watching the saber go out. “what happened? why did you leave?” she questioned, pausing when she realised that maybe she overstepped herself, “but don’t answer if it’s too personal. what i do know of the jedi order is that it’s more nuanced than i understand.” she gave a soft smile. “i am glad to know you, asajj.” that rang truer than her sister would know. “how did you end up here? back here,” she clarified, needing to know anything she could of the events.

ASAJJ PURSES HER LIPS. SHE’S a little hesitant at first—though, she hopes it doesn't show. she's had more than enough trouble in the past dealing with her own personal history, but she figures that she owes answers to this woman. to her sister, after all of the bloodshed she had brought upon their family. "well," she begins with a quiet, marginally thoughtful hum, and her gaze moves past the woman, staring out at nothingness on the reds and blacks of the horizon. "it's a bit of a tricky story. i was never in the jedi order. but, i was raised by a jedi for a short while. after i was taken from dathomir. until the day he was killed, he taught me their ways." she sighs, but not sadly. she's long since had to move on from that kind of dwelling. "i don't think i could ever have really been a jedi anyway." she scoffs at the mere memory of the order. "the last thing i remember before waking up is being attacked by...my former master, and then starting to slip away. to die." her face falls, a sign of frustration. "i woke up here on dathomir, but i can't piece together much more. not yet, at least."

A sudden voice pulled them out of their concentration and they jumped with a start — banging their head against their ship in the process. “Ah shi — hey, warn me before you do that next time.” They rubbed their head as they looked over to the twi’lek then back at their ship. “Uh, yeah, I mean. She’s seen worse days, but she’s doing relatively okay today. I think.” A soft chuckle before they gestured to the area they were working on. “The photonic photon generator destabilized a little after I finished up one of my … missions. Tryna fix the system failure it caused in the secondary impulse modulator.”

SHE GLANCES BACK AND FORTH between the ship and its apparent mechanic. she's almost amused by the sight, but knows it'd be unkind to show that sentiment. one brow arches, and hera watches characteristically with one hand situated on her hip. "worse days, huh? that can't be good." she's not sure she wants to see what that looks like. for half a moment, her gaze becomes less scrutinizing, and a small but sympathetic smile briefly upturns the corners of her mouth. she steps a little bit closer, but still maintains a normal distance—not wanting to overcrowd a stranger on their first meeting. peering at the ships exposed engine, she gives a short nod of agreement at the other's diagnosis, but her attention is more so captured by mention of 'missions.' she speaks up again, tone even, "mission?" her posture straightens, and she looks away from the ship and back at her newfound acquaintance. "must have been quite the excursion, to do this much damage. do you mind if i ask what you do?"
