I Have No Teeth And I Must Fundraise
Hey everyone,
It's Your Local Bardic entity, Gallus Rostromengalus of Bread Jesus and other Weird Tumblr Story Fame.
Despite my best efforts to mitigate mt Terrible English Dental DNA, today two of my teeth broke.
I don't even have a fun story about this, it's literally terrible genetics and stress-grinding my teeth in my sleep.
I just got back from emergency surgery to get the pieces pulled and the hole in my jaw closed so I don't get an infection, but a second reconstruction surgery to give me a bone graft and dental implants will be needed so I can actually chew and use my mouth for it's intended purposes.
I do not currently have dental insurance. I haven't talked about it here much, but my husband was unemployed after getting laid off for almost all of last year. He has a job again, but it pays like 2/3rds of his previous one and the benefits are crap. Like no dental insurance until he's worked there at least a year.
So I'm on the hook for the full cost of Today's emergency surgery, Medication, and the necessary follow-up reconstruction, which my dentist estimates will cost between $5000-$7000. Our dentist has given us every discount she can and we have a payment plan, but losing half our household income has left us with no savings and credit cards at their limits. Even though I only need to come up with $500 this month to go ahead with the reconstructive surgery, I do not have any money to spare. It will also be VASTLY cheaper overall to pay for everything up front rather than pay interest over the months with the payment plan, but literally anything will help me right now.

Pic of Chaleston Chew lounging on his pillows because pics generally help these posts but I do not want to inflict images of Dental Trauma on all of you.
I have like fifty things I want to draw but sparkeater Perceptor absolutely will come around again. Detail and timelapse under the cut

Damn, he looks as if he's one of Evas here! All this angles, spikes, fangs, pointy everything - damn again, Sir, are you in the right movie?
Small chair that lived under sun and snow for at least two years: I'm done.
Me, standing on said chair: Ugh~!
My neck: lol no
My calf and ankle: lol yes
Me: nah, we good
Me, day and a half later: no, we are not...
Doctors at the first aid station: nah, you good, just some bruises and scratches *scratched at it some more* you know what, have a lockjaw shot, just to be sure.
are you okay i noticed you reblogging "a raven with a damaged wing. it can still fly with ease" again
"Damaged", u-huh. Dude (or lady) has just lost a chunk of feathers, unpleasant but survivable (or we won't see him flying). How about trying this paphos with a bird with a broken wing?
Dear body, please, DO NOT fuck up my plans for this Wednesday. Thank you in advance.
Dear body, the Wednesday is tomorrow. Don't you dare.
Dear brain, please, be aware that you are a part of said boy, so everything above goes for you as well. Don't. You. Dare.
Plans move to Thursday thanks to my sheer outstanding dumbness.
At least I hope the other person involved had his good portion of laugh.
Plans were moved from Thursday to the Wednesday evening. Plans were to sail down the river on packraft.
Trying not to get into the nearest creek (the packraft owner said it's too shallow this summer) I suddenly sail to the other bank of the river.
From here I wanted to the city but (ofc) overestimated myself and had to stop at one of the villages not that far away. But I spent about two hours on water and that was delightful!
This beautiful lady named Motya was walking her humans where I left the water. So friendly dog! They kindly told me the right way to the bus stop where I spent about half an hour and got in the polite conversation with one and then the second locals. One was about 30, drunk and shared with me his opinion on war in Ukraine (highly negative), we wished each other good evening and he went on his way.
The second was an older uncle with a bicycle, who had stayed till the bus arrived. He had an opinion on the war too (highly negative), then we talked about how hot the weather is this summer, and how annoying are little flies (they are, and there a re TOO MUCH of them). I told him vanillin could help a little, he told me an old way to get rid of rats (to burn some dog's wool). Nice and pleasant conversation.
...And it's so much easier to write about people than about the river, and the flashing of water on my hands, and the clear sky above. As if there is nothing more in the world, just you, packradt, water, sky...
And tons of that damned small flies!
Heres the thing you gotta understand about statistics.
“Increases your chances by 80%” does not mean “there is now an 80% chance”.
If your chances were previously 10%, your chances are now 18%, not 90%.
if your chances were roughly 1%, they’re now just slightly less than 2%.
thats how that works.
Wow I don’t understand math at all
‘if you have a baby after 35, the chance of deformities goes up by 100%’ is a line I hear alot.
It goes up from .5% to 1%
I think my brain just stopped working
100% is just another way of saying twice more likely. So 100% more basically means multiply the number you do have by 2.
Imagine how many woman are scared to have kids because of that statistic
This is why I took stats instead of calc. Because I don’t build engineer bridges in my everyday life but I sure do read studies that affect how I might live my life if I misinterpret them.
I’m terrible at numbers and math but I knew this and I really take it for granted. The average person definitely assumes, quite understandably, that “600% INCREASE!!!” must always mean a whole lot even if it literally only means that one of something is now six of something. Politicians probably take a shitload of advantage of this confusion.
just remember that increased BY and increased TO are very different things.
Oh god I didn’t even think about that whole other layer of confusion. Yeah if you’ve got 100 people and one of them is sick, that’s 1% of them who are sick, so if it “increased BY 100%” then that means now two people are sick. If it’s “increased TO 100%” then all 100 people are sick.
Reblogging again for that last addition.
