summary: out of everything that came out of detention, youâd never expect it to be where you met your future boyfriend; fluff, 2k

3:44 pm â detention
You sighed in front of the closed door. You had forgotten your tie once again, leaving you to do another day of detention. If it werenât for the schoolâs need to be aesthetic, you wouldnât be in this situation, but here we are, at detention for a dress code violation.Â
Sliding open the door, you glanced at the quiet students, no familiar faces in sight. As you walk in, a voice speaks up. âThe teacher said that any late-comers have to sing a song or else theyâll get a harsher punishment,â he says, looking at you nonchalantly.Â
You scoffed, glancing at the clock, you said, âIâm only four minutes late, itâs no big deal.â
He nods his head at the female student that sat at the table next to him. âShe did it, too. Right?â She looks up from her notebook before nodding quickly. He shifts his eyes to you, waiting. âWell?âÂ
Rolling your eyes, you walked to the front of the classroom. The song that first entered your mind was âYOU&Iâ by IU. ââYou and me, we couldnât be together no,ââ you sang in a flat tone, even doing the accompanying moves. The boy smiles as he watches you, struggling to keep his fit of laughter quiet.
âI want to turn the clock so that the times goes fasterââ
âWhat are you doing?â The door opens, revealing the teacher with a confused look on his face. You turned your head at the boy as the realization sets upon you. He tricked you.Â
Muttering a quick apology, you go ahead and take the seat in front of the boy. From behind you, he snickers and taps your shoulder. âYouâre so gullible, I canât believe you fell for that.â
You shoot a glare at him. âDo you have a death wish?âÂ
ây/l/n y/n and Kim Seungmin!â The both of you turns your heads to meet the teacherâs eyes. âYou two are writing two more detention papers for talking.â
âYes sir,â you two say at the same time. Shooting him another glare, you turned around and began writing.Â
Thirty minutes later
Behind you, you heard Seungmin humming along to the song that you had previously sung. Growing annoyed, you turned around. âAre you mocking me?â
His eyes widen. âN-no, I just really like the song.â
Giving him a suspicious look, you turn back and return to your paper. The humming resumes and youâve had enough. Sliding out of your chair, you slung your backpack over your shoulders.Â
âAre you done? Iâm going to tell the teacherââ Seungmin says.Â
âIâm done,â you reply without turning around. Seungmin quickly packs up and follows you out.Â
âWhy are you following me?â you ask as the boy catches up to you.Â
âI go this way, too,â he answers, âin fact, I live in the complex next to yours.â
You eyed him suspiciously. âHow do you know where I live?â
âWe take the same path and go to the same school, unlike you, I notice things,â he chuckles as he walks faster.Â
âWhatâs that supposed to mean?!â you say as you run along to catch him. Seungmin speeds up his pace.Â
ââYou and me, we canât be together no~ââ he sings as he turns back and sees that there was a great gap between the two of you. He returns to his pace. ââI want to turn the clock so that the times goes faster~ââ
âHey! Come back here!â you huffed as you quickened your pace.
4:12 pm â a week later
âWhoever finishes last has to buy bread,â Seungmin says as he nudges your shoulder. It was another day of detention.
You chuckle. âYouâre on.â Both of you began to write as fast as you could. Your writing became more sloppy and more like scribbles.Â
âDONE!â Seungmin exclaims as he sets down his pencil.Â
You looked at him in shock. You were only 3/4 of the way done. âHowâd you finish so fast?âÂ
Seungmin smirks as he shows you three pencils taped together. âI learned this hack from the internet. Now, I can write these essays three times faster.âÂ
âIsnât that cheating?âÂ
He shrugs. âWe never specified the rules, remember? It was only the one that finished last would pay for drinks, and you, are the one thatâs slower.â
You blew a stray hair out of your face. âAlright, fine. Give me your pencil so I can finish up.âÂ
-
âThanks for the bread!â Seungmin says cheekily as the both of you sat at the top of the school steps.Â
âYou cheeky bastard,â you mumble as you take a bite of bread.Â
âHow about another game?â Seungmin tilts his head to his side and holds out a fist. You roll your eyes playfully as you pull out your hand from your blazer pocket.Â
âRock, paper, scissors!âÂ
Rock.
Paper. Seungminâs eyes widen as he stares at the fist his hand formed. You were not going to let him go so easily.
âPull your bangs apart.â You motioned at him to come closer as you prepare your flick.Â
âI have never wronged you, y/n,â Seungmin pleads as he closes his eyes.Â
You bring your hand closer to his exposed forehead. âReally? I think otherwise.â The sound of your fingers meeting Seungminâs forehead was audible as Seungmin falls forward with his palm over his forehead.
âOW!â He rubs the red spot on his head and pouts. âThat hurt.âÂ
âGood.â You two stare at each other for a few seconds before you whip out your hands again.Â
âRock, paper, scissors!âÂ
Scissors.Â
Paper.
This time, it was Seungmin who motioned for you to come forward. You shook your head but Seungmin continued. âCome here.âÂ
âKim Seungmin is the best!â you shouted before standing up and running away from him.Â
âHey!â You chuckled as you began to run at a faster pace as Seungmin grabbed his things and ran after you.Â
It didnât take long for him to catch up. He grabs your shoulders from behind and holds the position for a few seconds. âYou lost, just take the punishment!â
âFine!â You turned around, noticing the small gap between you and Seungmin. Immediately, your heart begins to race as his face was only a few inches from you. You opened your mouth, as to say something, but was interrupted by the flick on your forehead.Â
Clutching your forehead in pain, you bent down as your legs gave out. âYours was a hundred times harder than mine!â
Seungmin takes a seat next to you on the ground and sticks out his tongue. âI wouldâve gone softer if you didnât run away.âÂ
âLiar, you wouldâve hit me this hard either way,â you pouted. You looked at him for a few minutes before saying, âBy the way, you look really good with your bangs apart.âÂ
He tilts his head forward, cupping his ear with his hand. âWhatâd you say?â
You stood up quickly and began to run once again. âNothing!â
âHey!â Seungmin shouts as he looks at your running figure breathlessly before breaking out into a run. âCome back here and tell me what you just said!â
8:13 am â a few weeks later
Seungmin had a knack for pranks. Especially the age-old âKick me!â post-it note stuck to the back type of prank.Â
âGood morning, y/n!â Seungmin greets as he pats you on the back.Â
âGood morning!â you replied back as he walks ahead of you to his class.Â
âOh, whatâs this?â Jisung says from behind you before slapping your shoulder.Â
âWhatâKIM SEUNGMIN!â You reached behind your back to pull out a yellow sticky note. He snickers at you from the end of the hallway. Classic prank.
Jisung slaps your shoulder again before running ahead of you. âPSâThereâs another one on your other shoulder!â He laughs as he catches up with Seungmin.Â
âYou cheeky bastard,â you mumble as a smile escapes from your lips. You break into a run to catch up with Seungmin.Â
4:37 pm â detention, a few days later
âCan you not be late for once?â
âI donât know, can you remember to bring your tie to school?â Seungmin shoots back. He leans back into his chair as he closes his eyes.Â
âAre you done?â Seungmin nods his head with his eyes still closed. âThen why arenât you leaving?âÂ
âBecause, I want you to buy me bread,â he answers.Â
You scoff. âWe didnât agree to the game today.â
He shrugs. âWe do now.âÂ
It was Seungmin who acted nonchalant all the time. He acted playful and careless, but he hid a secret. He had a crush on you and he was unwilling to admit it to you. Yet.Â
7:53 amÂ
ây/n!â A voice from behind calls at you. You see Seungmin running to catch up with you.
âYouâre early for once,â you chuckle. You see him holding a piece of fabric in his hands.Â
âI donât want to go to detention today,â he says as he unravels the fabric he had in his hands: a tie. Your hands reach up to your collar. You had forgotten your ties once again.Â
Before you could say another word, Seungmin wraps the fabric around your neck and ties it perfectly. You held your breath as he hands ghosted over your neck. You wondered if he could feel your heart beating through your skin.Â
When he pulls away, you let out a deep breath that you had been holding. âT-thanks, Seungmin,â you stutter. You hoped that he didnât notice your wavering voice.Â
A deep blush appears on Seungminâs cheeks. âN-no problem.â The faint sound of the bell ringing is heard throughout the campus. He nods his head at the school building. âShall we?â
You nod your head and you followed him to the school building. âLetâs go.â
You feel Seungmin pat your back once again. You quickly turn around, feeling your back for any sticky notes. âKIM SEUNGMIN!â you shout as you hold the sticky note in front of you. He chuckles as he jogs away before you could reach him.Â
4:55 pm â detention; a few days later
Once again, Seungmin was late and you, coincidentally, forgot your tie. It wasnât like you untied it and threw it into your backpack when you saw Seungmin running in the hallway, clearly late to class, when it was time to check for dress code.Â
Anyways, here the both of you were, in detention, writing the papers. Seungmin puts down his pencils and begins packing up.Â
âYouâre done already?â you ask, looking up briefly from your paper.Â
Seungmin nods before patting your back. âYeah, Iâll see you later.âÂ
You thought his actions were a little weird; it was rare for Seungmin to leave without you. But you had just thought that Seungmin had a family emergency and went back to writing your paper.Â
Walking out of the classroom, you began to ponder Seungminâs odd actions again. He had told you the day before that his family had left for a business trip to Germany, so why else would he leave so early?Â
You recall Seungmin patting your back before he left, making you come to a realization. Reaching around your back, you felt around for a sticky note. And sure enough, on your shoulder, was a note stuck to your blazer.Â
âSeungmin, that cheeky bastard,â you muttered as you flipped the heart-shaped note around and read the contents. Your heart skipped a beat at his note.
Thought I'd end up with Jisung But he wasn't a match Cried a lot over Hyunjin Now I remember and laugh Even got my own first kiss And for Jeongin, I'm so thankful Wish I could say, "Thank you" to Seungmin 'Cause he was an angel (I changed a few lyrics to fit your fic and I didn't include felix bc he wasnt actually an ex)
summary: in which you learn that love sucks; angst; 2.8k

You never had luck with boyfriends.
Your first boyfriend was in your third year of middle school. It was what they called âcuffing seasonâ and you felt obligated to have someone to hold hands with through the halls as you walked to your classes. His name was Yang Jeongin, your classmate since kindergarten, and frankly, you did have a little crush on him in fifth grade. It was the spring formal and he had shyly tapped your shoulder during the lunch break. With a quiet voice and fidgeting hands, he had asked you out. This was your first confession. You said yes and dated him for seven months. Every day, he would meet you at your locker with a bright smile that showed his metal braces and walked you to and from classes without fail. He was the first guy you have ever huggedâŠand the first guy youâve ever kissed. It was Valentineâs Day (cliche? yes.) and you had met him at your locker as usual as he hands you a pretty arrangement of roses before pulling you into a tight hug. As he pulled away, he leaned forward once again before hesitantly placing his lips on yours. You didnât say anything besides smiling and letting him walk you to your class. The first time youâve initiated a kiss was when you kissed him on the cheek before going into your first period. It was the first time youâve ever felt so energized, you were no longer a shadow, you had someone to be your light. But, that light dimmed. As the next year started, you and Jeongin fell out. He started talking to older girls and made new friends. You could say that it was mutual, but the week of crying said differently. And that was how youâve experienced your first heartbreak at the ripe age of 13.
Your second heartbreak was only a few months later. It was Jeonginâs best friend, Seungmin, that approached you a week after Jeongin had broken up with you. After a few months of talking, you began to have feelings for Seungmin and vice versa. You didnât know what came over your head when you started to date Seungmin. Was it to make Jeongin jealous? It couldâve been possible. You would always drift your eyes over to Jeongin whenever you entered the cafeteria with interlocked hands, hoping that he would look over and ask you to be his again. But that never happened. The breakup happened a few months later, but this time, you were the heartbreaker. Maybe if you hadnât been with Jeongin beforehand, you would have been completely infatuated with Seungmin, but life had different plans in mind.Â
Your third heartbreak was in your second year of high school. He was a new student from Australia and to be fair, everybody had a crush on him and you were no different. His name was Felix and he would sit next to you in literature class and make conversations with you to make the hour-long class less boring. Compared to your last few crushes, this one felt genuine and not rushed. Sometimes youâd catch yourself thinking about how it would be like if you two were a couple, how it would feel to have his hands entwined with you, how it would feel to be pressed against his chest when youâre hugging him. Slowly, your crush on him grew until you would literally have heart eyes when you saw him. You loved the way his face was dotted with light freckles that would glow whenever his lips curved up into a bright smile when he talks to you. You thought that he was the one for you. Until he got a girlfriend that is. You found out when you were walking to class one day and in the corner of your eye, you saw the two untwining their hands before hugging. It was later confirmed that they were, indeed, dating. Although he would never find out, you felt your heart break into two pieces and called yourself stupid for being so infatuated with someone that you would never have a chance with.
Your fourth heartbreak was in your last year of high school. You were a tutor and he was a flunking student, what could go wrong there? Not to mention, he was the bad boy of the school, it was amazing to even be in the same room as him and never in your life would you have imagined yourself even talking to him. His name was Hyunjin. He adorned a metal lip ring on the bottom of his full lips and always had his tie loosened in school. You found his presence nice; for once, you were not worried about looking a specific way for someone and could vent to him and he would be there the whole way. But there was one thing you ignored: the fact that he was a heartbreaker. You began to date him after he pressed a soft kiss on your lips one day during tutoring. People didnât expect it, why would they? It ended in two weeksâwhen you found him pressing another girl against a wall. You were tired of getting the short end of the stick in relationships and concluded that you would never ever find a guy that was fit for you.
Itâs your first semester in collegeâa couple hundred miles away from your hometown meant that you could start a new life and meet new people. And with that, a certain someone stumbled into your life. Literally.Â
âIâm so sorry!â you immediately said as you watched the lukewarm cup of coffee slip from your grip and onto the person in front of you. You froze in your spot as you watched the figure in front of you stop in his tracks to look at his now-stained shirt. It was a yellow DHL sweater that now had a brown spot in the center of it.Â
He looks up and you felt your heart stop. Damn, he was good-looking, too. He smiles. âItâs cool, just watch where youâre going next time.â Without another word, he walks past you as youâre left wondering what had just happened.
The next time you saw him was an accident, much like the first time. The door of your dorm room opened, making you curse at your roommate for not locking it when she left.Â
âHeyâOh, this isnât Chanâs room,â a familiar voice says, making you look up to see the brunet you stumbled upon a few days ago. âWait, arenât you the girl that spilled coffee on my shirt?â
Your cheeks flare up as you shut your laptop, making your eyes adjust to the dim lights. âY-yeah. Sorry about that, did you get to clean it up?â
He nods. âDonât worry, ink stains are even worse to get out, trust me, itâs fine.â
âBut I feel so badââ
âItâs fine,â he reassures again before a thought enters his head. âIf you feel that bad, maybe, we can go meet up for coffee some day? I mean, granted, that you wonât spill it on me again.â
He chuckles as your cheeks flare up again. âIâm just kidding,â he says with a smile that showed his white teeth. His phone buzzes. âI would love to stay and chat, but my friend needs help with studyingâŠâ
You waved him off. âDo you want to meet at the campus coffee shop on Monday?â
âI would love that.â After hearing the door click shut, you placed your hand over your heart. The erratic beating did not stop, nor did you want it to.
-
You found out his name was Han Jisung and majored in literature, hence why he always had a pen and paper in his hands. âIdeas pop up in random places. Especially youâve almost burned down your apartment because you were to focused on finishing a story about a Greek myth rather than cooking your ramen,â Jisung joked.
As much as he loved to write short stories, poetry was his forte. âThereâs nothing better than putting vague sentences together hoping that it would make sense,â he says.Â
He was funny, easygoing, and kind. It wasnât hard for you to fall for him quickly.
-
It was the heart of winter and the day after finals. Jisung was slumped against your shoulder as the both of you watch a Christmas movie that was pirated on your laptop. He rests an arm around your waist as he shifts awake.Â
âI fell asleep again,â Jisung pouts. It was always a habit of his to stay up at nights, typing up a story on his laptop. It was a common sight to see him with a cup of black coffee in his hands and to see his head down in the middle of lectures.Â
âThe movie wasnât even that interesting anyway,â you said. âA boy doesnât believe in Christmas and then meets Santa Claus to help save the very holiday he despised? So cliche.â
Jisung chuckles. âHow else would you make a Christmas movie without Santa Claus?â He tilts his head as his eyes flutter up to look at yours, waiting for your answer.Â
You contemplate his question. âI donât know, focus on the elves? Theyâre pretty much the backbone of the whole Christmas industry if youâre asking me.â
âYouâre not wrong. Who else can make toys for every child? Certainly, not Santa Claus,â Jisung says. The both of you chuckle before a wave of silence overcomes the both of you.Â
âHey, y/n,â Jisung speaks up.Â
âHm?â you hummed as you scroll through the lists of movies to watch. Jisung doesnât reply, making you turn your head to his direction to see his eyes already set on your face. The light illuminating from your laptop casts an angelic glow on Jisungâs face.Â
âYouâre beautiful.âÂ
Your breath hitches as you attempt to form words. Jisung was faster. He sits up, his eyes flitting from your eyes to your lips as he presses softly against them. He tasted like a mixture of vanilla and coffee.Â
The kiss ended as quickly as it started. His eyes widen as he realizes what he did. âI-I like y-you, y/n.â
The corners of your lips tug upwards as you smiled. âI like you, too, Jisung.â
A sigh of relief escapes his mouth. âThat wouldâve been awkward if you didnât,â he chuckles before wrapping an arm around your shoulder. âIâve liked you for a long time.â
-
You never understood poetry, much to Jisungâs dismay.Â
âBut the symbolism!â he would exclaim before pulling out his favorite poem, Loveâs Philosophy.Â
âTheyâre using Middle English, how can you comprehend that?â
âFirst of all, itâs called Early Modern English, and second,â Jisung scoots closer to you, âIâll show you.â
Jisung loved the concept of love; it intrigued him how an individual could express love through many different ways. It was simply endearing, love, to be so infatuated with a single person and to have someone complete you. There was nothing more genuine than love.
ââŠSo youâre telling me that this whole poem was to ask for a kiss?â You raised an eyebrow before chuckling. âI think thereâs another reason why you love this poem, and itâs not because of the symbolism.â
Jisung blushes before looking at you with an innocent face. âHm?â
Leaning forward, you pressed a soft kiss on his cheek, darkening his already-red cheeks. âWhy donât you show me more poems?â
-
Jisung loved to write you poems. You would find a short poem on your nightstand, ready for you to read when you woke up. You would find them in your backpack, your car, your kitchen counter; name a place and Jisung would already have placed a poem there.
âIsnât it hard to write so many poems in this short span of time?â youâd ask when you meet with him before class.Â
He shakes his head. âNo, because Iâm always inspired. By you.â
âAre all poets this cheesy?â you teased.Â
Jisung leans forward to press a kiss on your temple before going back to his seat. âJust let me love you.â
It wasnât long before you would start making poems for Jisung.
-
Jisungâs life changed. His short story had won an international award and he was currently in the midst of producing a book.Â
He became one with his computer, as you had said to him on multiple occasions before he would sheepishly smile and give you a quick peck on the lips before returning to work.Â
But as the days progressed, you saw him less and all you wanted to do is to spend time with him.
âI got inspired for a chapter, so I have to make a raincheck on our date, okay babe?âÂ
âThe publisher wants me to finish this section by tonight.â
âI would love to go to the event with youâŠbut my book awaits me.â
You stood outside Jisungâs door for the nth time this month. You didnât bother to knock, knowing that he was too immersed with his writing to notice a single sound.Â
âHey.â
The boy jumps up, taking off his headphones. âFuc-Oh hey!â He relaxes when he sees that you were there, not some random killer or something. âWhatâs up?â
You sighed before looking at him. He forgot, again. âWe had a date tonight,â you said in a quiet voice.Â
His mouth forms an âoâ as he realizes his mistake. âIâm so sorry,â he apologizes before glancing at his open laptop. âI need to write this chapter, so can we schedule another day?â He looks at you with pleading eyes and you could never say no to them.
âOf course. Your book matters more.â You smiled sadly at him before placing your hand over the doorknob. âIâll text you tonight?â
He nods before shooting you a kiss in the air. âI love you.â
âI love you, too.â
And of course, you meant it. You would do anything for Jisung. He was there for you when you were packed with class assignments, now youâre there for him when heâs writing his first book. Love prospers through the hardships.
Or so you thought.
-
He looked at you with melancholy eyes, standing at the doorway, fearing that if he went one step farther he would hurt you even more.Â
You knew that face. Youâve seen that face one too many times to recognize it, but you brushed it off with a bright smile. âYou look off today, whatâs wrong?â
Jisung sighs, running a hand through his brown locks. You made the mistake of looking at his eyes. ây/nâŠâ
âYouâre breaking up with meâŠarenât you?â you asked in a quiet voice. You looked down at your crossed legs on your made bed, your hands trembling slightly as you tried to stop the lump in your throat from climbing up. âI understand.â
You didnât. You let your guard down as a stray tear fell onto your hand before you quickly wiped it away. Sniffling, you added, âThanks for the memories, they were amazing.â
Jisung felt his heart break; break-ups were the hard part of every relationship. His hands fumbled with each other as he tried to think of something to say. âIâve been so busy with my book, I think itâs unfair for you to be waiting for me when Iâm so focused on my career. I never wanted to hurt you, y/n. I truly love you, and I canât go further into this relationship when youâre putting all the effort and my mind is on different matters.
âI want you to find someone that will put as much love into you as you did into me,â he continued. âAs much as I want to be that guy, I canât. Iâm sorry, y/n. I wish you the best of luck in the future.â
You watched as the door clicked shut softly and let your world come crashing down. Hiccups escaped from your throat as tears ran down your face and onto your sheets.Â
You thought Jisung would be the one. You really believed that. But love worked differently.
It was cruel. Love only works when two people at a specific time become infatuated with each other, once one person falls out of line, love disappears. Love was only for the lucky, you were never lucky.Â
Overcome with your emotions, you decided the best thing was to pour out your heart onto a piece of paper, titling it:Â
thought iâd end up with jisung
-
You looked at the clock. It had been about three hours since Jisung left your roomâand your life. The paper in front of you was riddled with crossed-out words, eraser marks, and dried up tear stains.Â
Looking down, there was one space left.Â
You were done with having to repair your broken heart only to have the bandaid tear off again. No more heartbreaks, you thought.Â
I threw my phone on the bed and sighed loudly. âThose fakesâ I whispered to myself. Both Jisung and Jeongin promised to go to the library with me to study but cancelled one hour before. Jisung went to help Changbin with a rap and Jeongin said he doesnât feel like it. I got up and grabbed my bag. Might as well go early. I knew I wasnât gonna be able to understand anything, but with the test coming up tomorrow, I knew I had to go study either way.
Curse my procrastination.
I got to the library and made my way to one of the tables. I got my things out and started studying. One hour later, I had highlights and pens sprawled on the table, my notebook and the notebook Yeojin lent me, a drink on my desk, I had everything with me , expect my motivation.
I put my head into my hands and sighed before looking at the notebook again and whispering âIâm gonna fail this class.âÂ
âMood, but do you want some help?â I heard a voice behind me say. I turned around to see a guy around my age, with black jeans and a green hoodie. âYes please.â I whispered, desperate. âPhysics?â He asked, sitting next to me as I nodded âYou poor child.â He chuckled, causing me to let out a faint laugh. âIâm Y/N.â I said âSeungmin.â he said.Â
âMay I?â he asked, pointing at my notebook as I pushed it towards him. âSo, basically Iâm assuming you know how to calculate the relative error?â He asked as I shook my head no in shame âI use to, but I forgot.â I said âWell, for that, you need the absolute error, and for that you need the average value and then you take the observed value minus true value and thenâŠ.â Seungmin explained, drawing on my notebook.
Next thing you know, I was solving equations by myself, and they were correct! âAre you a magician? Because suddenly PHYSICS makes sense.â I looked at him in shock as he chuckled, blushing. âif you need any more help with anything, make sure to find me, ok.â He said as I extended my hand. âWhat?â He asked âPhone, I donât have your contact, idiot.â I said as he smiled and gave me his phone. I gave it back after adding myself on kakaotalk on his phone. He was about to leave, when I stopped him
âOh, one question! Do you know Math?â I asked as he nodded âCould you please tutor me tomorrow?â I asked as he waited for a second before replying with a âYeah, sure, same time, same place?â He asked as I nodded, smiling. I did some more equations before packing up and heading home, where I called Jeongin.Â
âJEONGIN! I UNDERDSTAN PHYSICS!â I yelled âWaitâŠyou? Physics?â He asked, shocked âI was just as surprised as you!â âBut how do you understand? What happened?â âThere was this one guy, Seungmin in the library that explained everything and I understand it now.â I said as Jeongin paused. âSay his name again.â ââŠSeungmin?â âKim Seungmin?â âI think so.â âY/N, you just had a study date with the smartest guy at this school. Everyone askes him to tutor them, but he always rejects.â âwait, what?â âOMG HE THINKS YOUR CUTEâ âJEONGIN, WHAT NO HE DOESNTâ âYESâ âNOâ
and we didnât stop arguing until 2am, when his mom told him to stop yelling and get to bed. The next day, I told Yeojin, who teased the hell out of me. âWait, youâre best friends with a cute boy, then one of your best school friends is cute, then your neighbor is also cute, then the most popular guy at school decides to let you borrow his hoodie, and now this? Can we change lives, please and thanks!â Yeojin teased as I blushed.Â
Iâm 99.99% sure Seungmin is a genius and helped me ace this test, which made my day. I was so happy the whole day, I even let Jisung make me drag him through the halls, since his âlegs donât work after PEâ. I was looking forward to going to the library and studying for the first time.Â
When I got to the library, Seungmin was already sitting at the desk we sat at yesterday.Â
âOh, am I late? Iâm so-â âNo, youâre right on time, I came earlier to study for my history exam.â Seungmin cut me off and smiled, before gesturing me to sit down next to him. I sat down and got my notebook out of my bag. The same process happened as yesterday, he scanned my notebook, explained while drawing on my notebook, and I felt like I was finally smart again. This happened lots of times. Me and Seungmin started to have study dates at cafes as well, as neither of us could bare the time apart from food.Â
I did well on every test Seungmin tutored me on, so I tried to repay him by paying for his drinks, but he refused, but settled on having a âI pay this time, you pay next timeâ system as he knew I wasnât going to stop insisting. As we started going on these study dates in cafes, we started becoming closer, I felt like Iâve known him forever and Iâve had so much information about him, that I would probably ace a âHow well do you know Kim Seungmin?â test as well.
âYou know latin?â He asked âNo.â I answered, making him laugh. âYouâll do great, sweetie, I believe in you. Now, we both have 10 minutes till school starts so I think we should be heading to class. And even if you wonât need it, because you wonât, good luck.â He said before grabbing his bag and patting my head and leaving. I sighed and made my way to class. I was shaking so much I could barely walk, but thankfully I got to class and finished the test.
Seungminie
I hope youâve calmed down, donât worry about it too much, you probably did great and if you didnât, well, you wonât die lol
I smiled at the text, causing Yeojin to tease me once again. âtexting your boyfriend?â Yeojin asked, teasingly âWhat boyfriend?â Changbin quickly asked as both him and Jisung looked at me, confused and concerned. âIâm texting my tutor, since when do you believe Yeojin?â I asked âHey!â Yeojin yelled, playfully hitting my arm as I noticed both Jisung and Changbin relax. My brain was now filled with questions of why would they react like that, but my thoughts, thankfully, got cut off by the bell ringing.Â
A few days later, we got our test back and my eyes widened as I saw an 100% mark on my test. I got so happy, I hit Yeojin so hard that she almost fell from her chair. âOmg, Iâm so sorry.â I said, outing a hand over my hand and helping her to regain her balance. After school, I texted Seungmin to meet me near the school as I happily walked to the meeting place we both agreed to.
Might as well, as it has become somewhat of a tradition.
Dear Seungmin,

summary: in which an emergency room doctor becomes entangled with a stoic-faced detective
âdoctors and detectives are at the opposite of the spectrumâdoctors save patients, while detectives arrest suspects. they both have the same goal: to help the community, but it was their ways that drove them apart. it was always an unspoken ruleâdoctors would not interfere with detectives and vice versa. there was always a harsh line between the two, one that no one from either side would crossâ
3:29 pm â emergency room
Ripping off your latex gloves, you shoved it in a nearby trash can, groaning as you walk to the counter. âTough day?â Hyunjin peers from behind the screen.
Groaning, you replied, âTell me about it. I had to deal with this couple and their surrogate, like câmon, their surrogate was badly injured in an accident and their first question was about the condition of the baby? Weâre not even sure if sheâs able to deliver anymore.â
Hyunjin nods in sympathy. âI totally get you, it feels like once people pass through these doors, they donât have their morals anymore.â
âYou got that right,â you snorted.
As you finish your sentence, a pair of paramedics burst through the sliding doors, wheeling in two injured people in gurneys, both bloodied.Â
â17-year-old male was speeding before getting involved in an accident. There are traces of alcohol in his system at the time we reported to the scene.â
â19-year-old male pedestrian was walking on a dimly lit crosswalk before he was hit by the driver."
Before you could go to help, Seungmin and Jeongin, a medical student who was interning, rushes in, along with Hyunjin. âWe got this, y/n,â Seungmin says, even though he was as equally tired as you.
âIâll take you in Room 3,â Hyunjin says, pushing back the curtains.
âRoom 2,â Seungmin guides. As they lift the patients into their beds, the team began to work.
âHeâs suffering blunt force to the skull,â Hyunjin announces. âLooks like heâs broken a few bones in his upper left arm and right leg.â
âHe also has signs of blunt force on his head, looks like he was knocked out as soon as he crashed.â Seungmin continues to examine the patient for any more wounds.
âHis stats are failing,â Seungmin watches as the numbers drop, âContact radiology and tell them weâre coming up to get a CT scan.â
âAlready did,â Jeongin says.
âGood job.â Seungmin props up the sides of the bed and begins to wheel the bed out of the room and into the hallway.
The sliding doors open once again, revealing two leather-clad boys. âSeoul Police,â the one in the black leather jacket announces as he walks up to Jeongin. âWe ask you to halt any procedures done to this patient currently and have his blood drawn.â
âUhâŠâ Jeonginâs head blanks. What was he supposed to do? Help his patient or help the detectives? If he helps the detectives, Seungminâs patient could die, but if he doesnât then the detectives wouldnât have the evidence they need.
You notice the cluttered group in the hallway and stepped in between them. âIâm Dr. y/l/n, is there anything I can do to help you guys?â you ask, pulling Jeongin behind you.
The one in the black leather jacket seemed to be annoyed. âYes, this patient of yours is suspected to be driving well over the minimum blood alcohol concentration and we will need to have his blood taken to confirm it.â
Before he could step in, you stepped in, building a wall between him and the patient. âIâm sorry, but we canât comply. First, we will need permission from the patient to conduct a blood withdrawal and if you canât see, he is unconscious because he suffered blunt force to his head, which brings me to my second reason. We need to conduct a CT scan to see if he suffered any internal head injuries and if we donât act quickly, you might not even have a suspect.â
The boy leans in closer, his gaze furious. âFailure to comply will result in an arrest, if you donât give us a blood sample, weâll have no other way but to arrest you for interference.â
âI signed the Hippocratic Oath, it is my duty to save a patient, and this patient is no different. I donât care if you arrest me or not, but this patient will not get his blood taken until he is fully conscious,â you shot, crossing your arms before nodding at Seungmin and Jeongin. âGo.â
Bowing their heads, the two quickly enter the elevators as the detectiveâs jaw tightens. He pulls out a pair of handcuffs from his back pocket. âI guess you wanted it that way,â he mutters as he pulls your hands behind your back. âMs. y/l/n, you are arrested for interfering in an ongoing investigation. You have the right to remain silent, anything you say now will be used against you.â
âI understood the consequences,â you say, âNow I must face them.â
4:15 pm â 99th precinct
You watched as the police officer continuously typed on his computer. Leaning over slightly, you caught sight of his badge, Officer Lee Felix. He looks up, shooting you a hint of a smile. âSorry, the system is so slow.â
You smiled back at him. âItâs alright, itâs not your problem.â
He returns back to typing, but a few seconds later, he leans over the counter. âSpeaking out against Changbin? That was totally badass of you, by the way,â he says as his eyes sparkle in admiration.
Chuckling, you waved it off. âI was just doing my job and he was doing his.â
âSpeaking of jobs,â a voice from behind says, you see the detective, whose name you assumed was Changbin, stand behind Felix. âWhatâs taking you so slow, Felix?â
âSorry, this computer is just really slow, Iââ
Changbin puts a hand up. âIâll do it.â He peers at you. âFollow me.â
He leads you into what seems like an interrogation room. Taking the seat in front of him, you crossed your arms. âIf youâre asking for an apology, youâre not getting one,â you said, tilting your head.
His jaw tightens. âIâve been in this force for almost 7 years and not once have I been talked back to by a nurseââ
âDoctor, not a nurse, officer,â you interrupted him, purposefully calling him the wrong title.
âDoctor, excuse me. The investigation I am conducting involves underage drinking and drinking will over the maximum BAC level. The victim, who is a sophomore at Korea University was walking back from his last class before he would be traveling to study to become a physical therapist. I want as much evidence as I can to charge the suspect who was hit the victim and a blood sample wouldâve confirmed that the suspect had been drinking,â he explains.
âI understand, detective,â you said. âI understand that it is your job to put the suspect in jail for his crime, but as a doctor, it is my job to save a patient, no matter their identity or criminal history, Iâm sorry this interfered with your investigation, but you also have to understand my side of the story.â
He sighs. âIf this investigation is foiled because of youââ
Before he could finish, Felix bursts into the room. Changbin opens his mouth as if to yell, but Felix speaks. âCaptain Bang and Dr. Ha want to speak to you both in the conference room.â
You both look at each other with some sort of panicked face. It was never good to speak with either of them, especially at this time. Following Felix out of the interrogation room, you and Changbin find your superiors sitting next to each other.
âGood afternoon, detective Seo, Dr. y/l/n,â they nod their heads at your as you two take a seat next to each other.
âI see that a conflict occurred at the hospitalâs emergency room, right?â You nod. âBetween you two?â
âYes.â
âYes.â Suddenly, you feel nervousness rise in your body as your hands fidget with each other. You were doing what was right, but so was Changbin, so who would have the upper hand in this situation?
âAs a doctor, you must follow the Hippocratic Oath, where you must serve a patient without your personal opinion surfacing,â your superior says, turning to Captain Bang. âAnd that is exactly what y/n did today, they followed their orders to try to save their patient.â
âI agree, Dr. y/l/n was following orders and Changbin needed to obtain evidence to charge the suspect,â Captain Bang states as he gives an apologetic look to Changbin. âHowever, there is sufficient evidence that the suspect was driving the car and had possession of alcohol in his car to charge him. In this case, I will have to give Dr. y/l/n the upper hand.â
âI agree.â You let out a sigh of relief as you heard the two superiors side with you.
âThank you,â you say, bowing your head.
âYou two are now cleared to go.â
Walking out of the conference room, you and Changbin didnât say a word. âYou were just doing your job,â you speak up. âYou didnât do anything wrong.â
âAnd you were, too,â Changbin says. âTell me when your patient is awake so I can question him.â
5:02 pm â emergency room
âThere they are!â Hyunjin announces as you walk into the department. He runs up to you, holding your arm. âWhat happened with you and that detective?â
You chuckle, shrugging your arm out of his hold. âIâll tell you about it later, but right now, how are the patients?â
Hyunjinâs smile falls as his voice grew solemn. âThe victim,â he says, looking down, âdidnât make it.â
This time, your smile drops as the same pair of paramedics walk passed you with a covered gurney in their hands. You were unable to process words, despite the questions that arose in your head. âW-what?â was all you could say.
âWe did an x-ray on his chest; multiple broken ribs and a punctured lung. He couldâve survived with a few disabilities, but it was his head that was the problem. He suffered major force to the skull and was already brain dead by the time he entered the emergency room. Iâm sorry y/n.â Hyunjin puts a reassuring hand on your shoulder as you feel tears well up in your eyes.
Wiping them quickly, you lifted your head. âYou did the best you can do, and unfortunately, it wasnât enough to save him. For now, we must shift our focus on saving the other patient so the detectives can question him.â
Nodding, Hyunjin returns to the computer. âSeungminâs in surgery right now, operating on his brain. It seems like his seatbelt and airbag pretty much saved him from other injuries. If all goes well, he should be fine in a few weeks.â
âGreat, Iâll let the detectives know.â Walking into the hallway, you passed by Jeongin, who stops you with his hand. âHm?â
âI just want to say that what you did earlier was really brave,â he meekly says. âIt made me want to become a doctor even more.â
8:23 am â next week; emergency room
âLooks like loverboy sent you a bouquet this time,â Hyunjin chuckles, handing you the wrapped flowers. They were at first gifts of apologies, but soon, you found it to become daily notes, asking you how you were doing, if you were eating well, and whatnot. âIâm not even sure if heâs here to see the patient or you anymore.â
âMaybe itâs both.â Dropping off your backpack, you headed to Room 2 and knocked on the wall before pulling apart the curtain.
Changbinâs tired eyes lit up as soon as he saw you. âHey,â he greets, straightening his leather jacket. âHow are you?â
âGood,â you reply, pulling on a pair of latex gloves as you peer at the unconscious boy. âHas he awoken yet?â
Changbin shook his head. âI saw his fingers twitch, but thatâs all. Dr. Kim said that itâs normal.â
You peered at the patient before calling out his name. âMr. Song?â After repeating his name a few more times, you saw the boyâs head move as his eyes slowly open. Changbinâs eyes widen as you called Seungmin.
Racing to the room, Seungmin arrives in less than a second. âHeâs awake!â he says as he checks the patientâs vitals. Turning to Changbin, he says, âIâll do a check up on his vitals and stimuli and then you may question him.â
After a few minutes, Changbin was cleared to enter the room, his notepad in hand. Because you had another patient to tend to, you were unable to accompany Changbin. As you finish checking on your patient, Changbin exits the room.
âHowâd it go?â you ask, walking up to him.
âHe was hysterical,â Changbin explains, âstarted saying how he was part of this gang that made him drink and drive, but besides that, he was pretty compliant. The most confusing part is his record. It was clean, heâs never been affiliated with that gang, never has been in possession of alcohol, and not to mention, heâs an honor student whoâs the president of his homeroom.â
âWhy would someone with such a bright future ahead of him be in this sort of problem?â you asked. Changbin shrugged his shoulder.
âThatâs what Iâm thinking.â He checks his watch. âI have to go to the precinct, Iâll see you later.â Giving you a quick hug, Changbin goes to his car and drives away.
Heading back into the hospital, you walked up to Seungmin. âWhat school did your patient go to?â
A few minutes later, you were on the phone with the school. An hour later, you peered into the boyâs room before walking into it. âHow are you feeling?â you asked.
âBetter than the other guy,â he mutters, looking at his bruised hands.
You held up his backpack. âI heard you were a smart kid, so I brought your books here, in case you wanted to catch up on what you missed. Canât be behind on anything, especially when youâre so close to taking your college entrance exam,â you smiled.
As soon as you place the backpack on the foot of his bed, he kicks it away. The sound of a laptop shattering echoed off the walls. âI donât want it.â He crosses his arms, staring at the light blue walls.
âIâm afraid your laptop might be broken, Iâll pay for another oneââ
âDonât,â he says. âIâm never going to return to school anyways. I donât belong in school, I donât belong anywhere! I tried to find friends and look at what Iâve become! A murderer! What are my parentsâno scratch that, what is the entire population of South Korea going to think? Iâll just go to prison and rot in here, itâll be better than being shunned by my own people. Now, can you please leave me be?â
Grabbing the unwanted backpack, you slowly backed out of the room, placing the bag on the counter. Sighing, you leaned your head into your palms. âSounds like it didnât go right,â Hyunjin says, popping next to you.
âTell me about it. Did you hear anything?â
He nods. âThe kid was basically yelling, I think even the precinct heard it.â
âThis whole situation is so odd. He doesnât want to go to school despite being an honor student, so he joined a gang? This is like a story out of a k-drama,â you muttered.
âWell, heâs going to be handed over to the detectives once he fully recovers anyway. Iâm sure theyâll figure it out there and after all that is over, you and Changbinââ
You put a hand to stop him. âWeâre just friends.â
ââFriendsâ,â Hyunjin air-quotes. He chuckles as you walk off, shaking your head to wear the red tint away from your cheeks.
12:23 pm â a few days later
You watched as Changbinâs team lead the boy away in handcuffs. Standing next to you, Changbin says, âThanks for keeping him alive.â
âJust doing my job,â you shrugged. âNow itâs time for you to do yours.â
Smiling, Changbin was about to walk away before he stops in front of the sliding doors and steps back to face you. âIâll be busy the next few days due to working on this case, but I was wondering if youâll be free next Thursday? I would like to take you out.â
âLike on a date?â You raise your eyebrows, causing a red tint to light the usually stoic-faced detectiveâs cheeks.
âYes, a date,â he confirms. âUnless you donâtââ
You chuckle at his flustered state. âI would love to go on a date with you.â
âReally?â You nod. âGreat! Thanks!â
You watch as he walks out, a light bounce that hid in his steps. âHeâs whipped,â Hyunjin says as he stands next to you.
âAnd so am I.â
8:49 pm â next Tuesday
You entered the last piece of information into the database before hitting save and logging out. Cracking your knuckles, you stifled a yawn. âIâm finally done. How many hours are left?â
Seungmin raises his watch. âApproximately 4 more hours.â
You groaned as you feel a hot cup of coffee in your hands. âI know,â Hyunjin mutters. âI canât believe we got kicked to the night shift, like are you serious? Poor Jeongin can barely keep his eyes open.â
âJeongin was the one that wanted to be on this shift.â
âIn my defense,â the intern raises a hand, âI learned more with this team than any other teams.â
âYou also heard more gossip,â you snort.
âAnd youâre basically watching the love story of y/n and Changbin unfold,â Hyunjin adds, making you choke on your coffee.
âG-get back to w-work,â you stutter as you walk away, the chorus of boys chuckling at you.
The flashing lights of the ambulance shine through the opaque glass and become bright once the paramedics raced in with gurneys. âShooting involving 5 males; I have a 26-year-old male who was shot in the throat and left thigh.â
âOver here!â Jeongin yells as the gurney is pushed into his room.
More gurneys races through the doors as you wondered what couldâve led to this. At the very last gurney to appear, your heart stopped. âChangbin? Changbin?!â Panic arises when you see his bloodied collar shirt.
âHe was shot multiple times in the chest and one in his left collarbone,â the paramedic announces. âStats are low, CPR was performed in transit.â
Before you could walk up to Changbin, Jeongin pulls you away. âI need help with my patient,â he says as you watch Seungmin and Hyunjin lead Changbin into another room.
âY-yeah, what do you need?â Heading over to Jeonginâs room, you catch sight of his patient, more importantly, the tattoo that rested on his neck. A gang tattoo. He mustâve been the one that shot Changbin. Stopping in your steps, thoughts raced through your head. Now you knew why some people acted against the Hippocratic Oath and you were now debating whether or not you were to uphold the oath, despite knowing that Changbin is the one he had injured.
âDr. y/l/n?â Jeonginâs voice brings you back to reality. He leads you to his patient. âI need to intubate, but I canât find the tube.â
âI got this,â you say as you take the equipment away from Jeongin. You took a deep breath, but that didnât stop the shaking in your hands. Steadying yourself, you reassured yourself that Changbin would be okay andââIs he flatlining?!â
You force yourself to not look up and chose to not hear the sound of a flatline in the other room. Shaking the thought away from your head, you focused on the patient again. Of course, youâve dealt with many criminal patients in the past and patients whose opinion you did not agree with, but this time was different. You didnât know why.
Clearing your head, you found focus and quickly intubated the man before handing him off to Jeongin. âThank you, doctor,â you hear Jeongin say as you rush out of the room, only to be greeted with Changbin in a gurney.
âW-where are you t-taking h-him?â you ask frantically, grabbing the sides of the gurney.Â
Hyunjin stops you as the gurney enters the elevator. âYou guys go ahead,â he says as he rests his hands on your shoulder and leads you to the break room. The sounds of machines and doctors yelling were muted once you entered the room.
As soon as you felt the chair, your feet collapse and your head falls into your hands, hot tears running down your face. âHeâll be alright,â Hyunjin reassures, taking a seat on the edge of the table. âWe were just bringing him up to get his chest x-ray. After that, heâll be patched up and recover.â
The whimpering only grew louder as Hyunjin lays a comforting hand on your shoulder. âI saw what you did there with Jeonginâs patient. Putting aside your personal thoughts to help a patient, no matter how strong your feelings were. That was so strong of you, donât lose that part of you.â
1:59 am â later that night
Hyunjin, Seungmin, and Jeongin had offered to stay with you as you waited for Changbin to wake up, but you waved them off. âYouâve done more than you had to today,â you had said as the boys reluctantly exit the hospital.
Falling into the plastic chair at the head of Changbinâs bed, you took his hand, running your thumb along the smooth skin. âPlease wake up. You have to.â
As the night drags on, you found the quiet hum of the electric lights above to be soothing as it lulls you and before you knew it, you were asleep.
You woke up to the feeling of fingers running through your locks. Opening your eyes, you see Changbinâs endearing smile. âGood morning,â he greets as you stand and wrapped your arms around him.
âI was so scared I was going to lose you,â you whispered as Changbin leans his head into the crook of your neck.
âYou canât get rid of me that easily,â he chuckles, his laugh vibrating through your body. Pulling away from the hug, he shoots you another smile. âI promised a date with you and I am a man of my word.â
8:25 pm â three months later
ââso as I said, it gets a little crazy in here, especially whenââ
âExcuse me.â Hyunjin turns around and is greeted by a stoic-faced detective. The two interns that Hyunjin was mentoringâJisung and Minhoâshudder in fear as they meet eyes with the serious detective, but Hyunjin only smiled.
âHey man,â he greets, high-fiving Changbin as the two interns look in astonishment. âGuys, this is Changbin, our very own Romeoââ
âHavenât I told you the ending of that story?â you say from behind him and pressed a kiss on Changbinâs cheek, shocking the interns even more.
âYeah, but I choose to not listen,â Hyunjin admits. âAnyways, theyâre like our Romeo and Juliet, minus the poison part. Youâll be seeing them a lot while youâre under my wing.â
As Hyunjin rambles on, you laced your fingers with Changbinâs. âHow are you?â
Changbin smiles. âI managed to solve a five-year cold case and Felix offered me a donut in return for taking over his desk duties for a few hours.â
âAnd if it werenât for me, these two would have gotten together!â Hyunjin hollers as you walked out of the sliding doors, hand in hand with Changbin.
Stores racked through your head. âThereâs a bakery down this block, they have some of the best sponge cakes Iâve ever had.â
He shakes his head. âNot that kind of sweet,â he chuckles.
You peer at him curiously. âWhat kind of sweet are you craving?â
Leaning down, Changbin presses a soft kiss on your lips, a faint trace of cherry lip balm lingering on his lips as he licks them. âThis kind of sweet.â
âbut two decided to test the waters and crossed the lines. what they found was the opposite of what they thought; hatred turned to love and shy glances turned into passionate kisses. and just like that, the once harsh line that separated them had become blurred.

summary: when you begin to catch feelings for a bad boy that gets in way too many fights
quote: âyou make me go crazy, you know that?â
a/n: uhhhh this is over 4k words and iâve had this in my drafts for mONTHs so uhh enjoy!! (also be warned that this is unedited!)
3:19 pm â after school
âStop moving.â
The boy in front of you continues to wiggle out of your grip as you attempt to clean the wound of his arm. âIt stings,â he whines. âIf it hurts this bad, I wouldnât have gotten into that fight in the first place.â
You scoff as you find the chance to press the cotton ball directly onto the cut, making him seethe a little. âYou shouldnât have gotten into the fight in the first place. Really? Getting into a fight with a senior, what were you thinking? You couldâve died or something.â
Jisung huffs. âI can hold a fight, y/n.â He glances down to see you smooth out a bandaid over the cleaned cut. âReally? A Spongebob bandaid?â
You shrugged as you discarded the trash. âGet into a fight again and itâll be a Hello Kitty one.â
He groans, but doesnât argue with you. You took the seat next to him, watching him as he picks at the newly placed bandage, a common habit of his that youâve noticed for a while. âI swear Jisung, if itâs not there tomorrow morning, I will literally cut off your arm.â
âBut itâs itchy,â the boy in front of you pouts. Itâs funny how he changes in front of you, you thought. To others, he was just another mischievous troublemaker, one who gets into one too many fights, but with you, he becomes a regular 17-year-old high schooler that you had became close friends with.
âYou didnât tell me that before I put on the bandaid?â you scoffed, crossing your arms.
âWell, it started to itch after you put it on,â his voice trails off as he blow a stray bang from his eyes.
âYouâre literally the bane of my existence, you know that?â you groaned as you took out another bandaid and ripped off the one from before.
âBut Iâm your favorite bane, am I not?â he chuckles as his eyes crinkle and sparkle.
âKeep telling yourself that.â
3:01 pm â next week
âDo you think I should stop getting into fights?â Jisung asks one day after he was involved in a fight with a jock.
You scoffed. âYes, of course, thatâs a no brainer, isnât it?â
You walked over to wrap his knuckle with the bandage wrap. Taking his hand delicately and resting it on your leg, you rolled the bandage over the area of his hand. âBut how else will I talk to you?â
âOh, I donât know, by walking up to me at school and say âhey, whatâs up?â like a regular person?â You furrowed your eyebrows.
âThatâs a bit boring, and not to mention, youâre literally hard to find at school, itâs like you can turn invisible or something. Maybe...youâre a ghost?â The corners of his lips tug up.
You gave him a âare you serious?â kind of look. âOr on the more logical scale, we just donât have a lot of classes?â
Jisung shakes his head. âNah, you being a ghost sounds cooler. Plusââ
The ring of your phone interrupts him mid-sentence. You reached over and saw that you had received a message. âWho was it?â Jisung asks, concern etched on his face.
âJust a guy who asked me to tutor him,â you answered, shutting off your phone before turning back to Jisung. âHe literally knows nothing about the Korean War.â
âHuh, that sucks, guess I have to reschedule my fights to fit your tutoring schedule,â Jisung says in a fake serious tone.
âOr just not get into fights after school?â you said.
Jisung chuckles. âYouâre right, Iâll schedule them before school starts, but that also kinda means that Iâll be going to gym with bruises and Iâll probably be worn out.â
You rolled your eyes. âYouâre really not going to stop with the fights? What about when you graduate?â you questioned the boy.
He chuckles, as if your statement was the funniest joke heâs heard all day. In the middle of catching his breath, he manages to say: ây/n, youâre acting as if Iâll graduate.â
6:57 pm â a few days later
Jisung kicks the pebbles farther away from him as he mindlessly walks on the sidewalk. He had gotten into another fight that day, but you were busy tutoring. For the first time, he felt a bit lonely without your presence, and it drove him crazy. He watches the cars speed by before finally taking a seat on a bus bench just as his phone rings.
âWhat do you want?â he answers.
The other line crackles a bit before speaking. âReally? Iâve been patching up your bruises for the last two years and this is how you greet me when I call?â you huffed in annoyance.
Jisung chuckles a bit. âAh, my bad-Howâs my angel sent from above to heal my wounds doing?â he greets again.
This time, it was you who chuckled. âIâm doing alright, I just called to remind you to clean your cuts or else theyâll get infected.â
âBut I lack the expertise you have,â he whines, âCan you come over?
You chuckle again and Jisung felt a wave of calmness wash over him. âAlright, Iâll meet you in ten minutes.â
As soon as you bid your goodbyes, Jisung raced back to his house. His first instinct was to clean his room, pieces of paper scattered around the floor, his desk was cluttered with trash, and oddly, the room smelled just like the boysâ locker room after gym. Jisung sighed. He was going to have to work fast.
The doorbell rings just as Jisung finishes putting the last piece of paper into the trash. Running down to the front door, he fixes his hair just before he opens the door to greet you. âSchool ended 3 hours ago, why are you still in your uniform?â was the first thing you asked him.
He grimaces. Of course, he forgot to change his clothes. âIâuhâfell asleep right when I came home.â
You chuckled, patting his chest lightly as you walked in. âAlright, sleepyhead, whatever you say.â
âI came home early because someone wasnât there for me today,â Jisung says, emphasizing âsomeoneâ.
You scoffed as you took out your first aid kit. âMy day was great, thanks for asking. I totally didnât spend 3 hours teaching someone about who King Sejeong was.â
âIâm just kidding,â Jisung says, âI hope this kid learns fast because heâs taking away my valuable time with you.â
You were about to reply before you noticed fresh blood on his bandage. âWhy is your knuckle bleeding?â
He laughs awkwardly before managing out a meek, âI might have gotten into a fight with a guy in the basketball team.â
Rolling your eyes, you grabbed the bottle of ointment and shook your head. âI leave you alone for one day and you manage to get involved in a fight. What was it this time?â
âWell, he tried to get lunch money from Jeongin and you know, we have a pact to protect him.â
âI guess it was for a good reason,â you said, âAlso, who needs lunch money nowadays, literally a rice ball is like a dollar.â
Jisung chuckles. âSo whenâs the next time youâre free? Seems like I donât see you a lot these days,â he says.
You thought for a bit. âMaybe tomorrow? You know, we do go to the same school, why donât you find me there?â
âLike I said, youâre like a ghost or something, I can never find you.â
You chuckle. âStill going on with that? What about you, huh? I never seem to find you at school anywhere either, maybe youâre the ghost here.â
âAll right, all right,â he says, letting out a laugh, âYou got me there. Now that weâve both established that weâre ghosts, Iâll meet you in the courtyard tomorrow after school?â
âSounds like a plan,â you said as you finish up wrapping his knuckles. Jisung watches you as you finish packing up your backpack, trying to come up with a way to make you stay longer. Just a bit longer.
âRemember when you said that you would beat me in a ramen eating competition?â Jisung suddenly asks.
âNo,â you say as you shake your head, âBut I probably would beat you if that time ever comes.â
âThereâs a convenience store around the corner, if youâre up for it,â Jisung offers.
âUh,â you checked the time on your phone, âI totally would, but itâs getting late and Jaehyun asked me to meet him in the morning to go over his study guide.â
âJ-Jaehyun?â Jisung cocks his head to the side in confusion. âThe guy that I fought with a week ago?"
âThe guy that Iâm tutoring,â you explained. You checked the time on your phone again. âI should probably go home, Iâll see you tomorrow, Jisung.â
âYeah, yeah. Iâll walk you to the door,â Jisung says. He waves goodbye to you as he shuts the for behind him, sighing.
âReally, Jisung?â he asks himself, âRamen eating competition? God, youâre so embarrassing.â He runs his hands through his hair as he sighs. Why was he so nervous with you?
2:45 pm â the next day
Jisung watches as a string of students leave the school, obviously drained from the tiring day. He looks through the crowd for your face, but he never saw you. He wondered if something came up, maybe the student government had an emergency meeting or you were held back in class to ask a question. Jisung had one thought that came to mind, but he hoped that it wasnât true.
A few minutes later, he spots you stepping out of the front doors. Standing up, Jisung was about to greet you before another figure emerges from behind you and immediately, Jisung lowered his hand. He watches you as you animatedly conversed with Jaehyun, chuckling at everything he said. His untold thought turned out to be true.
He decides that leaving quietly would be the better option, but Jisung wasnât unnoticed. âJisung!â you called out as you jog to catch up to him. âHey.â
âHey,â he replies, attempting a cheery voice.
You sensed that something was wrong, making you ponder your thoughts until you remembered. âOh God, I forgot that we were supposed to meet up today,â you said in a panicked tone before quickly apologizing. âS-sorry, Jaehyun said that he needed some additional help with this book in literature class andââ
âItâs fine, y/n, Iâm sure we can always meet up another time. Anyways, I have to go, Chan needs me at the studio.â Jisung fakes a smile as he slings his bag over his shoulder and leaves you with a heavy heart. Of course Chan didnât need him at the studio, he didnât even have a song ready, but that was the first excuse Jisung could thing of at the top of his head.
5:18 pm â later that day
The ringing of the doorbell stops Jisung mid-lyric as he sets down his notebook to go see who was at the door. Seeing you was probably his last guessâactually, his last guess would probably be seeing TWICE at his front door.
âHey, what are you doing here?â Jisung was puzzled to see you standing in front of him with two bags full of snacks.
You walk past him into his house, setting the bags down by the couch. âListen, I felt so bad earlier for forgetting our meet up, so to make it up, I bought some ramen and some snacks.â
âSo, a ramen eating competition?â Jisung face brightens.
You nod, letting out a chuckle. âYes, a ramen eating competition it is.â
Two packs of ramen later, you and Jisung found yourselves sprawled on the couch watching another episode of Brooklyn 99. A few minutes into a new episode, you felt your phone buzz, making you sit up.
âWho is it?â Jisung asks.
âJaehyun; he wants to meet up at the park to go over the study guide for that history test tomorrow,â you explained, grabbing your backpack.
âWerenât you with him after school?â
âYeah, but he was rushing to get to basketball practice,â you replied, walking over to put on your shoes.
Jisung pauses the tv and sighs. âDidnât seem like he was rushing to me,â he mumbles as he walks over to the door.
âSorry,â you apologize, âhow about we meet at that cafe where Seungmin works at tomorrow? I promise you that I wonât get caught up with tutoring tomorrow.â
âAlright,â Jisung sighs, âIâll see you at school.â
He gives you a tight-lipped smile as he waves goodbye to you, softly shutting the door. He wonders what Jaehyunâs deal was: did he actually need that much help or was there another motive behind it? Jisung shakes the thought out of his head as he heads up the stairs for another sleepless night.
12:29 pm â lunch
âQuit stabbing your salad,â a voice from behind says to Jisung. Seungmin sets his tray next to the distracted boy. âWhat is it? A Caesar salad?â
Seungmin couldnât help but laugh at his own clever pun. But to his dismay, the boy next to him was doing the opposite. He waves a hand in front of Jisung, which finally brings the boy out of his trance. âSeriously, whatâs your deal? You look exactly like when you couldnât get the tickets to see TWICE. Wait, did it happen again?â
Jisung shakes his head. âNo, itâs worse, look.â
Seungmin follows Jisungâs line of eyesight and saw you and Jaehyun sitting alone at a lunch table. âWhatâs y/n and Jaehyun doing together? Unlessââ
ââTutoring,ââ Jisung finger quotes. âI mean, it could be true, Jaehyunâs a jock, how smart can he be?â
âJaehyun? Tutoring?â Seungmin scoffs. âHeâs in the same class as Chan and Chan can never top him in class. Why would a guy so smart need tutoring?â
Jisung starts to piece together the information. âJaehyunâs trying to get with y/n,â Jisung concludes. âI mean, his last relationship was broken up the day y/n started tutoring himââ
âAnd the spring dance is in a few weeks and we all know that Jaehyun likes to ask someone new every year,â Seungmin adds. âArenât you going to ask y/n?â
Jisung blanks out, unable to form words as he stutter, âW-what? No, w-why would I-I ask y/n? I d-donât even like t-them.â
Seungmin smirks as he picks up his empty tray to throw away. âWhatever you say, buddy. But, if I were you, I would act fast. Word on the street is that Jaehyunâs planning to ask y/n out sometime this week.â
Without another word, Seungmin walks out, leaving Jisung dumbfounded with this new information.
2:33 pm â cafe
âI told you that I would keep my promise,â you said as you placed two trays of iced tea on the table.
Jisung chuckles. âI never doubted you.â
âAnyways, since I lost last nightâs competition, whatâs the punishment?â
âHmm,â Jisung thinks, âNot sure yet. But Iâll tell you when I figure it out.â
âShouldnât punishment be done right after the competition?â
âI didnât know punishments had expiration dates,â Jisung shoots back, making you chuckle.
âAlright, you got me there.â Your eye catches the healing cut on Jisungâs knuckles. Taking his hand, you surprise Jisung. âLooks like your cut is finally healing, after like I donât know, months?â
A faint blush feathers Jisungâs cheeks, he hoped that you didnât notice his nervousness. âWell, my nurse isnât exactly free anymore and you know that I lack in basic first aid, so I just havenât gotten into any fights anymore.â
âOr maybe, you found good in the world and wonât resort to violence to solve your problem anymore?â You looked at him hopefully, but your hopes fell as he scoffed.
âNo, of course not. Who are you kidding?â Jisung jokes, making you laugh brightly. His heart starts to beat a little faster at the sight of your smiling face: your eyes crinkling like stars and your lips curling up to meet your eyes. He finds himself enticed with your beauty as the background starts to blur out, leaving only you in his view. And thatâs when he knew, Han Jisung was in love with you.
7:33 pm â home
âI KNEW IT!â Seungmin screams, making Jisung pull his phone away from his ear. Jisung finds comfort in his bed and threw a tennis ball back and forth with the ceiling. âSo what made you finally realize this?â
Jisung blows a stray hair away from his eyes. âI donât know, we were at a cafe and they were laughing at a joke I made. I mean, Iâve made tons of jokes and seen them smile hundreds of times, but this time, something weird happened, like everything blurs except their face and my heart was beating so fast.â
âDude, youâre whipped,â Seungmin says.
âYeah, I think I know that by now,â Jisung replies flatly. âBut what should I do?â
âUh, ask them to the spring dance while implying that you want to be lovers, duh,â Seungmin answers.
âWhat about Jaehyun then?â
âWell, say the both of you ask them out, who is y/n going to pick? The stone cold heartbreaker who is hands down the hottest guy in the school, the best player on the basketball team, and is definitely taller than the both of us combined or you?â
âThanks, I bet Iâm a no-brainer,â Jisung says flatly.
âAlright, I mightâve trailed off there, but in the end, all Jaehyun is going to do is play y/n and technically, youâre their best friend, how would they reject you?â Seungmin explains.
âFine, I guess you have a point, but how am I going to ask them out in a not-lame way?â
âA song? I mean I know you have a bunch of romantic songs produced, ask them out with a song.â
âOkay, first of all, we will never speak of my love songs, I donât even know how you found out, but songs are out. Iâll just ask them like a normal person then, God I hope I wonât look lame,â Jisung mutters.
âDonât worry, youâre already lame without trying,â Seungmin says.
âYou know, youâve been such a great help and it looks like I have a ton of homework to do, so Iâll see you in class tomorrow. Bye!â
âWait, but you never do homewââ Jisung presses the red button before Seungmin could finish his sentence. Throwing his phone on his covers, Jisung stands up and paces the room.
ââHey, I like you and I was wondering if you would like to go to the spring dance with me?â God, thatâs literally the epitome of every second-lead male in dramas,â Jisung cringes.
ââHey. You. Me. Dance?â What am I? A cave man who has no idea what basic grammar is?â Jisung practices different lines for the rest of night, each of them becoming relatively worse than the one before. It is only until he practiced another k-drama line when he finally gave up and decided to wing it.
2:30 pm â the next day
The school day had already ended and Jisung hadnât seen you all day, with or without Jaehyun. He leans on the bricks wall in the shade, thinking that you had another clue meeting and decided to just wait for you. A few minutes later, another figure joins him on the wall.
âSo whatâs up with you and y/n?â Jisung turns and is face to face with a tall figure. Jaehyun.
He was taller than Jisung had thought, making the younger one take a step back before recollecting himself. âWhat about me and y/n?â Jisung questions back, making Jaehyun chuckle, not like the âhaha good jokeâ chuckle but more like âIâm boutta fuck yo shit upâ kinda chuckle.
âNothing. I had a hunch that you liked them,â Jaehyun starts, âAnd Iâm here to tell you to forget it. Iâm asking y/n to the spring dance, just letting you know beforehand before you face the embarrassing sting of rejection.â
Jisung rolls his eyes. âYou think youâre all innocent for asking y/n to the spring dance, huh? I know your games Jaehyun.â
Jaehyun smirks. âYouâre right. Itâs not going to be fun just by doing that, huh? So, what are my games, Jisung?â
âYou play with peopleâs feelings, you find them at their weakest point and then you come in and swoop them up like a fucking Prince Charming. Then a few weeks later, you release them, letting them plummet to the ground like theyâre nothing and that is why you, Jung Jaehyun, are the absolute worst and I wonât let that happen to y/n,â Jisung spats.
âAnd letâs say that it happens, what are you going to do about it?â Jaehyunâs cocky smirk infuriated Jisung, making him curl his fists into his palms, attempting to calm his temper. Key word: attempting.
Jaehyun continues his taunt. ây/nâs a special one; theyâre one of those who only see the good in the world, so what better thing to do than to turn a heartbreaker into someone loyal? Theyâre so naive.â
Forgive me, y/n, Jisung mentally apologizes as he strikes Jaehyun in the face, his healing cut splitting back open at the force. He shakes the pain away from his knuckles as he looks at the now fallen boy with his hand on his nose.
âJisung!â The boy hears a familiar voice as you run over to them with Seungmin by your side. Your eyes dart between the two boys, wondering what on earth had happened.
âIâll take care of Jaehyun, you go fix that bloody mess on his hands,â Seungmin offers as Jisung takes your hand and leads you away from Jaehyunâs whining.
You two find yourselves at a familiar park bench as you take out your first aid kit, something that youâve carried since youâve known Jisung. The both of you stayed quiet as you cleaned the cut on his hand, Jisung occasionally seething from the burn of the alcohol.
âIâm sorry, y/n,â Jisung says after a few more minutes of silence. You finish wrapping his knuckle and looked up, meeting his eyes.
âFor what?â you asked. âYou didnât seem apologetic when you nailed his nose.â
Jisung sighs. âDo you like him?â Jisung asks in a quiet voice.
âThatâs why you hit him? Because you thought that I liked him?â Jisung shrugs, making you take a deep breath. âNo, Jisung. I donât like Jaehyun and I never will.â
You noticed his noticeable sigh of relief and continued. âBecause I like someone else.â
âWho?â Jisung asks, clearly confused.
âThe person I like is you,â you confess. Jisung freezes in his spot, wondering if he heard correctly. A few seconds of silence follows and you clear your throat, regretting your quick confession. âAnd I thought that you punched Jaehyun because there could have been a sliver of a chance that you liked me back, but now that I think of it, maybe you were just doing it because you were being a good friend.â
You packed the kit back in your bag and stood up, slinging the bag over your shoulders. âIâll see you later, Jisung.â You bid goodbye and proceeded to walk away, but a hand stopped you. Looking down, you saw you and Jisungâs entwined hands.
âIâm not gonna lie, I was jealous of Jaehyun because he would be hanging out with you and when he said that he was going to play you, I let my emotions overcome me, like always,â Jisung says, âWhat Iâm saying is that, I like you y/n, a lot.â
âOh God I sound like the second lead in a k-drama,â Jisung adds, lessening the thick tension in the air.
You chuckle at his sudden joke. âSo what now?â you ask.
âThereâs only one thing to do in this moment, y/n, will you go with me to the spring dance?â Jisung asks, entwining both your hands with his.
You nod. âI would love to,â you smiled before adding, âIs this because of the confessions a few minutes ago or is me going to the dance with you my punishment for losing the competition?â
âOh, y/n,â Jisung chuckles and stands up, wrapping an arm around you as the both of you began to walk, âOf course this is your punishment.â

quote:Â âiâm gonna regret itâ
âIt was mutual.â
The boy in front of you didnât look convinced. Instead, he snorts. âMutual, my ass.â
You sigh as you massage your temples. âListen, weâre just on a break,â you tried to explain.
âUntil he hits you up again,â Minho rolls his eyes. âThen dumps you. Again.â
âMinho,â you glanced up to meet eyes with him, âI know youâre trying to be a good friend and all, but you donât know Changbin like I do. He loves me.â
Another snort. âYou think guys like him love you? You think love is bootycalls and leaving his apartment before the sun rises?â
You stayed quiet as doubt creeps up. You took another sip of your drink, but it was already empty. âHeâs not always like that,â you said quietly, avoiding his eyes. You remember the feeling between his arms: comfort. âI love him.â
âBut does he love you? Does he reach for his phone right when you text or call him? In fact, how many times has he left you on read?â Minho fires, almost shouting. He realizes his harsh tone and quiets down. âWhy canât you realize that you deserve more than him? Just leave his ass already.â
Your phone starts ringing. Taking it out of your pocket, you check the caller: Changbin. You reach to click the green button, but Minho was faster. He clicks the red button. âDonât you dare pick it up. Next time, I would be there to stop you.â
The familiar ringtone starts to play as Changbinâs face fills your screen again. Minho stares at you, shaking his head slightly. You picked up the phone and clicked the green button. Without looking, you knew that Minho was shaking his head at you, disappointed.
âHello?â you answered quietly.
The line is silent before a voice speaks up. âHey,â Changbin greets. âI miss you. Come over?â
You glanced at Minho, who shook his head again. âAlright, be there in five.â
After a few more words, Changbin ended the call. You grabbed your bag and stood up. âYouâre going to regret this,â Minho warns before you leave.
âI know,â you said as you walked out of the bar.Â
You stood in front of Changbinâs apartment, hesitant. You knew whatâs going to happen: he tells you that heâs missed you, you spend a night with him, and leave the next morning heartbroken. Nothing more, everything less.
âIâm going to regret this,â you mumbled as you ring his doorbell.
âHey,â he smiles, opening the door a little wider. His hair was dripping wet, signally that he had recently showered. He leads you into his apartment, where you heard the light muffle of the tv.
Changbin closes the door behind you. âIâve missed you,â he says, taking your hands and pulling you closer to him, wrapping his arms around your torso. He began to pepper you with kisses, ghosting over your neck and ears.
You werenât regretting it.
The sun crept into the room, casting an orange glow on the painted walls. You had been awake for a while, staring at the walls in front of you.
âOh, youâre awake?â Changbin asked, his voice husky. His arm finds it way to your waist as he props himself up with his other hand.
âYeah,â you replied, showing a hint of a smile.
Changbin looks at you quizzically. âWhatâs wrong?â he asks, noticing that something was off.
You sigh, doubt creeping up as you hesitate. âChangbin,â you began, looking into his eyes. âWhat are we?â
He avoided your eyes, confirming your suspicion. âThe answer would never change, would it?â you asked. You gently moved Changbinâs arm off you and sat up, picking up your discarded clothes. âI get it.â
âWait, y/n,â Changbin calls out, making you turn back as you reach for the doorknob. âIâll see you next week?â
âOf course,â you say, opening the door. You quickly put on your clothes and grabbed your bag, leaving the apartment as soon as you could.
Closing the door behind you, you leaned back and sighed. You regretted it, but what could you do? He was just like any old habit, unable to quit and move on.
