Why is MidnightJester Shipped?
So, MidnightJester (Carmine/Moon) is a popular ship in the TSAMS fandom! Why is this? Because of chemistry. And because have you been in a fandom?
For context as to why some people don’t like Carmoon, Moon is canonically AroAce, Carmine on the other hand is unknown but confirmed to feel some type of attraction due to being in a relationship.
I’ve seen people asking MidnightJester shippers why they ship it (cough @francyangely cough). So, as an AroAce person myself I’ll share my view on this ship!
Aroace stands for Aromantic Asexual. The definition of which is little to no sexual or romantic attraction to others.
Keep in mind little to none. Being AroAce is a spectrum.
I am an AroAce person in a relationship. My partner is Asexual. I am on the spectrum where I feel romantic attraction in some ways.
Carmoon lets me see myself better than others. A lot of the times, when people who are AroAce or just Ace/Aro are shipped, their sexuality is completely disregarded in favour of the ship.
A good example of this is Alastor from Hazbin Hotel. He is canonically Asexual and heavily implied as Aromantic. However, the fandom ships him in both sexual and romantic relationships despite his canonical disdain towards sexual affection.
This, is bad, due to removing already little representation we have. The creator of Hazbin Hotel as well does not care for this. Which, fair, but as an AroAce person makes me frustrated. It’s like being told that our identities don’t matter, that we have to be able to feel attraction to make good content.
Carmoon breaks that. Many writers write Carmoon as a QPR (QueerPlatonic Relationship), a non-romantic but commited relationship that goes beyond what society typically expects from a friendship but does not involve traditional romantic feelings, or make Moon’s AroAce very obvious.
The few Explicit fics with Carmoon still plays a big part of Moon’s sexuality. Something that as an AroAce myself makes me feel seen.
Because, not only is good AroAce representation hard to find, but AroAce rep where they’re also in a sexual/romantic relationship is practically void.
Carmoon is a small but big step in representation. I’ve seen and met many AroAce people in this fandom as well as other AroAce people not in this fandom who are in the same boat as me.
This fandom may not be as big as the Hazbin Hotel fandom or… any other, but it’s a big step for folks like me.
That’s why Carmoon is such a big ship for people like us.
